The Faster S&W has their patent expire on the mags, the sooner we can get good aftermarket ones that don't have this issue.

Guys lets make a petition for S&W to ask them to make metal lips in these magazines
@velocitydreamer11 ай бұрын
100% they need to use steel feed lips or allow for 3rd party solutions and stop milking us.
@zues2879 ай бұрын
@@velocitydreamereither that or use a better polymer. Magpul mags have always had feed lips made from polymer, and they dont do this.

I’ve actually been able to fix that issue, what I did was? I heated the lips got a pair of pliers , squeezed the lips slightly and the ammo stays in.

I bought 3 from MIDWAY and wasn"t able to get out and shoot for 3 months due to life and work. i didn't know about the problem until i took it out and noticed this exact thing. binds in the mag well and is warped.. tried to get a hold of midway for warranty on the defective product i purchased from them but because I'm after 90 days from purchase I'm out of luck. seems pretty shitty? they told me to get a hold of S and W to see if they could help but no dice. pretty disappointed in everyone right now.

This phenomenon is exactly what I’ve found. Moreover if the round does stand up because of a feeding issue it can wear out the lips sooner than expected or at least contribute to it. It would be amazing if someone made a product that rescued the couple I’ve worn out. I’d love to do some sanding and gluing to introduce stainless steel lips...

4:26 you can actually see the round in the mag flicked upwards

I just tried using a heat gun and pinching the lips closed. I think there’s a chance to save the mags for some purposes. If you’re like me you have practice and competition magazines. I don’t mind the occasional malfunction in practice. It’s actually a good thing to have to deal with...competition is another thing. This may be a way to stretch the life of the practice mags and thus the life of all mags because of rotation new to competition to practice. That’s going to be huge until they’re readily available everywhere again and that’s not a predictable timetable

I had this happen to me yesterday at a match, noticed the top round pointing straight up in the mag before I loaded it into my rifle. Good thing I have four extra Mags so did not suffer any malfunctions during match. Thanks for this vid. Others suggested a heat gun and pinching the feed lips, might try that, or better yet, see if Smith will send me a new one? Worth a try.

I just tested spring tension with the bad mag and good ones. It's very possible this is a case of weak spring tension that's causing the top round to flip up.

Great channel. I am very new and possibly naive to this and I’m just about to apply for my FAC. However a quick question I have is: would this problem be alleviated with a lightweight metal magazine? I am looking to buy very shortly for use at my club particularly the WMR version so a different size magazine would be required (?) but the same question would apply. Thanks in advance.

I have a new magazine that will only take 24 out of 25 rounds. The follower can be pulled all the way down, but there is only enough space for 24.5 cartridges. It does feel a little off when the 20th round is loaded. The bullet sometimes has resistance to popping up into position. That's what brought me here looking for similar issues.
@S3dINS Жыл бұрын
The follower has a tang that stops it going too far and allowing the retaining button to fall out. I when the mag is fully loaded if you have enough space between the button and the round hole at the bottom of the slide for another round without risking the button falling out, you could shave a little bit off the follower to allow for the 25th round. I’ve contemplated doing this on mine to try and squeeze a 26th round in but I probably won’t.
@shuumai Жыл бұрын
@@S3dINS it actually resolves itself. I think a tiny bit of plastic debris got into the body of the magazine after I worked on deburring it. All I did was take it apart to inspect it, found nothing wrong, then tested it again and it worked!

I find that new mags have a lot of snaggy bits on the follower-button slide. I disassemble the mag, shave off the snags with a sharp knife or Stanley blade then I rub the follower, spring and button slide with candle wax or black wax crayon. They operate flawlessly and it stops the spring from screeching which obviously saves on wear inside the mag. Has a proper solution been created to increase the life of these mags? Metal feed lips would have been a good idea but I guess S&W wanted the mags to have a finite life so they could sell more of them.

I havent had issues as of yet. Does the heat gun and pressing lips together work long term ? Any longterm fixes? I have you tired the English made 30 round extension?
@mattralphwright3 жыл бұрын
I guess it doesn’t suit the business model, but it would be great if they made the feed lip part replaceable… S&W are not short of a $ or two! - if the moulds are nearing the end of the cycle- now would be the perfect time to upgrade ye olde 15/22 mag design?

Im curious just how many rounds 1 mag goes through before this becomes a problem? I had mine for years and never had a malfunction but I don't go through alot a rounds like some of you do.

FYI- Every mag you have or buy needs to be deburred!!! Take some 500-800 grit sandpaper and remove EVERY bur on the inside and outside of the mag body. They have gotten EXTREMELY lazy on their QC for the magazines as of late, not sure why!

Fired my m&p 15-22 today for the first time was firing great had no jams nothing but after like prolly 200 rounds it started jamming wasn’t releasing the bullets correctly and kinda upset me cause I wanted to just let loose cause it’s a low recoil and just fun
