Complicated, here, is the object complement. An object complement either renames the object or modifies it. • We declared him the captain. • She is paint the room red. Captain and red are object complements in the above sentences.

Hello, prof. Ashish. I am a new student in English class, so I started learning English with you a few months ago and I have a question very important: The question is: In the sentence: I am playing with you. playing is a transitive verb that requires a direct object, so in this case, the preposition phrase (with you) acts as a direct object but according to your videos, the preposition phrase can be an Adjective( phrase ) or adverb (phrase), not a noun (phrase). Would you like please explain to me this situation? thanks
@EnglishWithAshish
@EnglishWithAshish Жыл бұрын
The verb ‘playing’ is used intransitively in the sentence, meaning the object of the verb (playing what) is not present in the sentence. The preposition phrase (with you) is working as a verb complement, not as the object of the verb. Thank you for being a part of the channel! :)

' she dances well' is well a subject compliment or verb compliment?
@EnglishWithAshish
@EnglishWithAshish 2 жыл бұрын
Verb complement. The subject complement doesn't modify a verb.

Can a verb complement be an adjective sir? Because verb complement are usually objects or adjectives right?Also if we replace the word dance with a linking verb like is, it will be she is well.
