As prepositions modify the verbs in phrasal verbs so why do we name those prepositions as verbial complement... Don't they be called adverbial complement as they are modifying verb??
@ninbud6889
@ninbud6889 Жыл бұрын
Well, you should distinguish between prepositional verbs and phrasal verbs. A phrasal verb contains a verb and not a preposition but a particle Ex: he takes down the lesson. He run down the stairs. Can you distinguish between them?

Subject complement could be a noun, noun phrase, adjective, adjective phrase, prepositional phrase, noun clause, infinitive phrase, gerund phrase, adverb and finally adverb phrase. object complement- we need certain verbs to make this grammar topic like colour, paint, make, consider, find , discover, name, call, elect etc. Object complement could be a noun, noun phrase, prepositional phrase, infinitive phrase, gerund phrase, noun clause anything like subject complement.

Second to none. this is the only perfect explanation I have ever heard. there is one thing to share with this: verb complement is like: I go swimming/home/... swimming or home is called verb complement. But you look after me. here, 'after' is part of verb. not a separate verb. look after = one word not two, so it can't be verb complement.
@EnglishWithAshish
@EnglishWithAshish 10 ай бұрын
It's a phrasal verb. The preposition in a phrasal verb plays a vital role in establishing its meaning. You can consider it a part of the verb and call it a verb complement.

Please explain the diffrence. Another example.l... I don't have money to spend. Money is the Object, #to spend" tells more about the money right? Yet it's a a verb compl3ment.
