This is a vocabulary lesson for high intermediate and advanced learners of English. My goal is not to promote any position on issues that have become hot topics. I aim to give students the vocabulary and information they need to follow the news and discussions about COVID-19 and the pandemic. Everyone is free to form their own opinions on vaccines, mandates, masks, etc. I wish you all good health in body, mind, and spirit!

Hello there! You're most welcome. Yes, as we start this new year, we need to be positive. We don't know how much longer this awful pandemic will be, so we can just stay strong for one another, and we'll get through it! Stay healthy!

Hi Jennifer! Thank you for this lesson! It helped me systemize my vocabulary on this topic)) Here in Russia people often confuse the terms "isolation" and "quarantine"...

I'm happy the lesson helped you clarify any doubts. We mix up terms here too. As I mentioned, "COVID fatigue" could be interpreted two different ways. Stay safe and healthy!

There are three kinds of Covid tests. 1. PCR tests 2. Antigen tests 3. Review Quiz Even the thought of the first two tests fatigued me, but the 3rd one energized me. Thank you, Jennifer.

Hello Jennifer! Thank you very much for the video. It's really really helpful. Could I ask you if these two sentences look correct to you? 1) 'Where can I get/take a PCR test/a rapid test?' (asking somebody while traveling abroad, looking for a place to get a Covid test) 2) 'Hello, I need to get/take a PCR/a rapid test.' (at a pharmacy, saying that to the pharmacist; that's what you can do, at least in some countries in Europe, go to a pharmacy to get tested) I would really appreciate your answers.

@Englishwithjennifer2 жыл бұрын
Hi Fernando. Do you mean you buy masks at the pharmacy? I do, too, but sometimes they don't have any. I've also bought them in the grocery store, and I hope the quality is okay. I think Americans will be able to get a few free N95 masks soon. It's what I've heard, but it may not be for another week or so.

Thank you for the kind words. 😊 Yes, I produce all my videos. I wish I had had more time for this one. There were a few more words I wanted to add, but producing weekly lessons forces me to work fast! Well, even so, we covered a lot. I may end up having to make another in 2023, but maybe by that time we'll have more positive news to discuss.

Hii, how are you? I wanna ask you if you can make a video about pronounciation of the contraction 'll (future) but not with the subjects, sentence with words in general like " things'll " that is, another words. Thank youu (i wrote this with no translator so if i have a mistake or unnecessary word, pls tell me)
@Englishwithjennifer2 жыл бұрын
The principle is the same. You hold your tongue in place behind your upper front teeth and against the tooth ridge, and you continue to voice the sound. You can hear many examples on YouGlish, but they're very fast. youglish.com/pronounce/things%27ll/english/us?

Thank you Jennifer for this vocabulary lesson. Indeed! We are really fed up with this pandemic now. Wish it would end soon. Millions of people have suffered because this deadly virus. Now that vaccination programmes have been ramped up in many countries, we could see some light at the end of the tunnel. Although vaccination is considered as the key to protection from the virus, conspiracy theories are playing a spoil sport in winning this battle. Thanks again for this wonderful vocabulary lesson! Please spot my mistakes! Stay safe!
@Englishwithjennifer2 жыл бұрын
Hi Hilal. You're most welcome. Great phrasal verb: ramp up/ be ramped up. Yes, it seems that 2022 is letting us see a faint light at the end of the tunnel. Many professional events and social activities have returned, though with some restrictions. I know some people who are aren't vaccinated. Some are relying on their natural immunity. Others remain concerned about the safety of a new vaccine. It's a complicated issue. I hope the end of the pandemic comes sooner rather than later! Corrections: because of this deadly virus/ now...we can see/ are preventing us from winning

If something throws you off, it distracts you and/or confuses you. "To settle up" means to pay off a debt or pay the bill.
