Type 6 stress arrow had never been explained to me in a way that clicked, but I think I figured it out on my own. I went through a really stressful period in my life when I made major life decisions that went against my parents' wishes. At that time, I became obsessed with proving that I could still have a successful, happy life going against their wishes. So, sort of like a 3, I wanted to show my achievements and stability to prove that I could be independent and make my own decisions. I hope that's helpful to some other sixes who don't get their stress arrow.

For a 6 moving towards a 3 during the pandemic I’d say it includes talking about how well they’re following the rules. They’re drawn to those parameters to tell them what is “right” like how they’re drawn towards education. You might find a 6 standing up for the underdog who is afraid and more susceptible to the negative effects (health, loneliness, finances) but then moving towards the 3 they’re pointing out how well they’re following the rules and how well others aren’t and then pull in the way that it effects the “underdog”. Negative moments might include calling others out on how they’re breaking the guidelines or working against “the underdog”.

Yes, as a fellow in the field of personal and spiritual development, I wholly agree that awareness is certainly the key for any acknowledgment and growth to take place. I like how you acknowledge things that you're uncomfortable with. Transparency like this is important in a position of a coach and mentor. With regards to discomfort, aversion, and anxiety, these are some signs that there are deeply embedded emotions which have not been resolved yet, such as the concept of negativity. Each person also has different perceptions and relationships regarding ideas and words, so you may opt to phrase things differently in a way that you feel is less negative or more positive, but someone else might find it worse anyway, or more negative, so I personally speak as factually as possible, with mindfulness on positive phrasing where applicable. There are some fantastic opportunities for spiritual healing here within these acknowledgments you've made.

During the quarantine, I think God has guided me to hear enough about the Enneagram to dive in. Last fall I went around the circle seeing myself in several types, but during these days I've heard myself described as a nine so many times I just can't believe how "9" I am. My anxiety found a home as I started searching for more information. Hillary, you are funny and helpful. I've worried about our dog more than about ourselves, too. Chloe is an old, blind, rescue dog with "special needs." That's my 9 Epic for today!

I've gone 'round in circles trying to figure out my type. I didn't realize I was stressed in the beginning of all of this until my sister said I sounded like I might actually be a 6. I began researching 6 and I finally realized I am a 9 heading toward my stress point right now. Your conversation with us right now feels exactly like all my conversations with everyone ever. I know I always think I'm other enneagram types, but I'm pretty sure I'm a nine. As a nine I notice things that you do that are probably nine habits that I also do. Very subtle mistakes that we make, because our defense mechanism is unawareness. For one, the jolly music you have playing goes completely against the topic you're discussing. A global pandemic where panic, caused by depleting resources, seems very likely, and how each type responds to that stress. The contrast between the dire situation and the happy-go-lucky music is almost comical. This is something I do all the time as well. One time at a funeral, after the service, I began singing the song Black Betty by Ram Ram. It was virtually silent but that song was stuck in my head so without thinking, I began to loudly sing "Whoa black Betty!" My friend Enoch sitting next to me said "how could you be thinking of that right now." That's when I realized that I often miss context in situations. Just growing up, when people worried, I usually didn't, and it made me feel dumb. I thought "do I not notice things that others do because I'm stupid?" As a result, I have an addiction to stimulants, so I can keep up with others. I just realized this recently. I think I had a point but I forgot what it was

God has been calling me to play my mandolin. It’s been a rough several weeks but we can pray! I enjoyed your video so much. It’s like listening to a friend visit 😀 I think I might be a 9 or a 6, I do worry alot especially when I’m stressed. I sometimes become like “type A” and feel like I’m the only one who can get things done lol it’s so annoying and not like my usual self! I will just have to turn it over to God like you said! Thanks! ✝️💗 ps your boys are right! I love listening to music on KZbin because it’s “not perfect”!!

You made my day when you said “it’s like listening to a friend” ❤️❤️❤️ And I love that God is calling you to play your mandolin! Wow! What talent! In regards to being a 9 or 6 it’ll come down to your core desires, fears and weaknesses. Look up the 9’s and 6’s and see which one you most feel you align with. It makes sense you’d feel like a 6 if your a nine. Since the 9 goes toward the average to unhealthy side of a 6 when stressed. Anyways hope this helps!

When I went to the grocery store at the beginning of this and the shelves in Walmart, Dollar General and Albertsons were bare of Lysol products, paper towels and toilet paper, I got very concerned. Albertsons got plenty of paper products back pretty quickly, but limited the number you could buy. I understand about the dog food worry. I didn't buy extra dog food. Lol I have dogs. If the stores run low on your dog's dog food, you can always cook him some chicken and rice. In this Covid 19 extra home time, I am following a better schedule at home, working around the house- yes I needed to clean out and rearrange. I am reading some inspirational books, watching more youtube, my daily devotion book is also very good, More Than Conquerors. I have been doing some classes online. I created some good soup recipes and I have been cooking almost all of my meals at home. I have been going to physical therapy, I wrote a few notes to start a book, also I have been praying more. My church has prayer multiple times a week on facebook and youtube, also the church services. Phillipians 4th chapter talks about how to get the peace of God. This was a great video.

Type 9- I’ve handled the preparedness that comes with being stuck at home pretty well (mostly because I’ve blocked it out). We have stocked up a months worth of food and toiletries. However, when the schools shut down this week, I’ve noticed a lot of stress dealing with the start of online schooling. I found myself losing control yesterday and I had to force myself to separate and take a nap. Afterwards I woke up a different person who was under control.

For me there was a sudden realization when I thought "oh my gosh what is happening?". This was when I first learned non essential business were going to shut down. It sounded so surreal in general, but especially given here in Vegas we are a 24 hr city. While as a 1 I can be moody sometimes, anxiety was actually what I experienced. Like "is this really happening?" It felt like it was the fear of the unknown. Plus I have a history of anxiety anyway, maybe that amplified it.

I'm curious about this stress mechanic. I've studied astrology and other personality systems, and they don't have this musical number type of mechanic. Q: Each Type has a healthy and unhealthy side already, so what exactly is the threshold, or mechanism, that explains this change? And is this considered a shift in type, or is this more like adopting additional traits of the unhealthy side of the other type?

Hey Hilary! Thanks for this video! I'm watching this almost a year into the pandemic and I've been functioning okay as I've still been able to go to work and I have a tendency to tune out reality and remain in my blissful imaginary world. I'm curious though, I think I am a 4w3, but with the stress arrows I resonate more with the 3 (even though I don't feel my career or success define me). I have become very apathetic, lethargic, withdrawn, ignorant to reality and the 3 stresses to 9... I'm also off work now because I may be battling depression. But I don't know if that is because my job feels aimless and I have to keep enduring it because the pandemic is forcing me to keep moving forward and that is a stress level for a 3, or if it is because I'm a 4 and they are prone to meloncholy and depression and my job is also very boring and detail oriented and non-creative and non-social, and it completely drains me. My one creative outlet I had before the pandemic was singing in a choir at my church, and that has ended as a result of Covid. I think what I relate to as a 4 in stress is I withdraw from everyone and everything and get very down on myself. Then I feel like I NEED to talk to someone about it. I will usually call my mom or a close friend, and even just talking about it makes me feel better...so long as they don't tell me to suck it up, or try to fix all my problems. I just want to feel validated and re-affirmed in myself and my feelings and that my current situation isn't the be all end all. I need to see that light at the end of the tunnel, otherwise I have a very difficult time getting out of my low mood and I turn to unhealthy coping mechanisms to break out of it. That was a lot, but if you get a chance to respond it would've really nice to see your input. Is it possible as a 4w3 to resonate more with the wing's stress arrow? Thanks!

Hmm. I’m thinking I’m a 5w6 and can relate to integrating to 8 when healthy. But when stressed I think I become quite nit picky. Possibly scattered as well but it depends on the stress level. Like can it be a good type of stress as well? When I’m working on a project I typically become quite restless with all he information out there for me to absorb and also perfectionistic. And when my mom was diagnosed with cancer due to hormones I became obsessively focused on finding out what she could eat that would restore her back to health. I was extremely scared but became like a machine during this time. Was crazy focused and controlling every day. And it was ofc overwhelming and exhausting when I finally relaxed because it wasn’t naturally me to be like that. And that doesn’t sound 7. It sounds more like 8. So can a crises create growth like that? Yeah sound like it.

I am still confused as if I am a healthy 6 or was an unhealthy 9 (acting like 6). I think I worry a lot, but I don't always prepare because I trust my grandmother (who is 100% a 6) to have everything I need and she lives with me. She has so much water bottles and canned food and was over prepared for a crisis before covid even came.

When the lockdown started it was after my birthday. I was fine with the lockdown happening since o barely leave the house anyway and me and my mom had already gone grocery shopping the weekend before but we didn’t get toilet paper and paper towels cause we were low on money at the time and we had a few rolls left so we were okay. I was like we could come back when we need it. Then people on Twitter were saying it was sold out everywhere and I was like 😱 “we need to go find some” so me and my mom went to target. Meat, macaroni’s, sauce, medication, half the things were sold out and this was like 7-8 at night. That was the first time we knew it was more serious. My mom was like we should stock up on what’s left and I was like “okay” I’m still trying to figure out what type I am. 😵 I took the test online and it said my top 3 types are 4, 9 or 6.

Gina Sica - Hang in there - figuring your own type can be confusing ( it was ... and is still to me as no one seems to all agree...lol.) You are uniquely and wonderfully you. I seem to test as a few very different numbers due to the questions they all seem to ask. ( I test strong in 5, 6, 9 and 1... with sub issues of a 2, 4 and 7's. Go figure.) Yes - finding supplies can be challenging. Ask where you shop at what nights their grocery loads come in on, and usually the next morning after a load was worked to the shelves there will be more available than later on in the day. That said, toilet paper still is hard to come by. (Try other kinds of stores like a Restaurant Supply place, depending on where you live. They are usually open to the public and stock a variety of food and paper items in larger quantities.) Some stores keep what little toilet paper they did get in behind the service counter for seniors and such. Just ask. If you lived by me I would gladly give you a multi- pack. Hugs to you and your mom. 💕

I made the mistake of joining an enneagram 8 group on fb and they are some of the nastiest, rudest people I've come across outside of political groups! The females go out of their way to be rude, insulting and they all think they know everything. I am holding my own against them for now, but I don't waste my energy that way anymore. I used to be a lot like them, but they are way more rude and insulting than any in my age group were at that age. These females are definitely not worth it wasting any precious time and energy on. If I answered the questions right, and I'm truly an 8, then I feel a little out of place. During this crazy time I am totally centering on God. He has always taken care of me before and I believe with my heart and soul he will continue to do so. This quarantine has been a good time to do my Bible journaling and I love listening to hymns Bluegrass style. :)
