I am rewatching this after Erin, from the Impatient Gardner, tried over wintering hers. And I'm just going to say it. This ish is bananas, b-a-n-a-n-a-s.
@GardeningatDouentza Жыл бұрын
Haha. We all remember Erin's enormous ensete from last year. It was a sumptuous monster! It's always scary how much bananas reduce after you cut all the mush off in spring. I saw Erin's post yesterday about how her central leaves are now pushing up and they completely mirror what my tree crinum is now doing. Happy days for us both.

You can put the pups in water so that the soil comes off then it gets easier to seperate the bulbs and roots, besides seeing clean roots.

I bough one adult plant similar in size to the mom plant here in Tampa, Fl for $35 (maybe a tad smaller ). If I do the same thing with two mom plants and I get roughly 50 babies that’s a good $2,000 worth of red leafed bananas.... crazy! I have a huge back yard and it would remind me of living in a small village in Puerto Rico again! Thank you so much for clarifying my suspicion since this is the same method my grandfather uses to propagate edible bananas and plantains!

I've found that if you get a pup with no roots, putting it into tap water for a few weeks causes it to grow lots and it will then have a much better chance of surviving when potted.
@GardeningatDouentza5 жыл бұрын
Personally I'm not mad about this method of propagation. I find that the water roots have difficulty acclimatising to soil afterwards. But, if it works for you, that's brilliant!

When you show the two plants, some with red leaves, that were in the North facing window, and some with green, that were under the grow light, which is the preferred/healthier colour?
@GardeningatDouentza4 жыл бұрын
Hello there. The red leaves are generally the more desired ones for this banana. I don't think one colour is healthier than the other. It is just the plant's adaptation to different light levels.
