Love the console and the chairs and the mirror as well. However, as a mom I have to say the bench needs to move away from the staircase. It is not safe for kids in case if they jump onto it.

Well you have that big old gap where the stairs go down also so - which one do you prefer? Go tumbling down the stairs or climb the chair and go down? I think you need to give them some credit to think for themselves as parents and that their kids are not totally devoid of common sense and perhaps have been brought up in a certain way.

@@TubnQT Tub, I actually witness this at a department store. Small kids jumping on a display sofa while Mom shopped- the sofa was pushed up against a stair railing. One of the kids jumped while leaning forward and went right down the stairs. It does not matter how often you tell kids not to jump on a bouncy surface, they will do it- very dangerous.

Considering the color pattern I could glimpse in the rest of the house, you did a fine job. The entrance looks a lot better after, then before. However, I do find the house much more high end, then the placed furniture. That somehow doesn't match. When I first saw that giant empty wall, I found it begging for several pieces of different sizes of real bold art. I know: your hands were tied by the owner's wishes.

I like 1 better. I would of put wreath or door deco up. The railing could of use some vines of a large hanging plant. The lady was so HAPPY. I HOPE her husband is too. Where are they taking their shoes off? Where are the putting their shoes and hanging up their sweaters or jackets. The lady asked for a mirror so they could see themselves. The plant was in the way of their view. She used some nice decos. LOOKED GOOD. So NICE to come home and it is completely finished. THANK YOU.

This entry has to be my favorite space, I think!! It’s so elegant but chic, just right for a vibrant, young family. Speaking of cane, if I had been an adult during the mid-century, I would had cane everywhere!! I was born in 1959, so my parents, grandparents, etc had great mid-century furniture-now I wish I still had some of it. I’m always looking on Craigslist for a cane, king-size headboard, but I haven’t found one, yet. Where, oh where, did your dress come from? I love the mix of colors!!

My thoughts as well. If I lived there I might flip the console and bench. It might look cool to have the bench under than piece of art and, if it's well mounted it will not run the risk of falling on the kiddos when they use the bench. Falling is one of my nightmare themes, so I couldn't live with that concern.
@eileenchang2173

Bench is definitely a hazard, and is inviting a critical injury if a child should decide to climb onto that bench!. Similarly the beautiful rug at the top of the staircase needs to be moved a little bit because that will be a tripping hazard going down the stairs. Thank you for bringing up the issue with your client, so that she really needs to think about the safety issues first. She has to realize that a toddler is top-heavy and it doesn’t take much for a toddler to tip over. Hopefully all these comments that have been posted will change her mind: Your designs are absolutely beautiful though!! Excellent work yet again!

I totally agree with you phylicia ferguson, especially the corner side to me I would have added some accent bright colors, more height added on the panels may be a huge abstract painting or a gallery of family pics to balance the grand space. I feel all the space looks out of balance with the mirror on the floor and very small chairs.

Out of curiosity, in the US do people normally not take their shoes off when they enter someone's house? How do they deal with their children when they crawl on the floor and pick up germs that other people's shoes (that have presumably walked in all sorts of public spaces like washrooms) bring in?
@katt6894
@katt6894 4 жыл бұрын
cookie factory In our home we take our shoes off for that very reason , but from what I have observed over the years the majority of Americans do not. When you think about what you’re bringing into your home, it’s really quite disgusting.
@gardenjoy5223
@gardenjoy5223 4 жыл бұрын
People are 'build' to fight germs. It has been shown in repeated studies, that an environment which is too clean, damages the health of small children. Instead of fighting the germs, the army of ready fighters start coming against more innocent things (allergies) or even against the own body (auto-immune diseases). The rise of for instance asthma is linked to this. The product that is often used to clean floors, seems to have the worst impact. And of course in some countries the roads aren't plastered too well, so in order to avoid bringing in the entire neighborhood under your shoes, indeed you take off your shoes. With all pavement outside, that reason for taking off your shoes has fallen away as well.

Please, with three to four children, the bannisters need to raised to be a metre higher than the lowest seating placed near to them. As a safeguard. Urgently.

@@StudioMcGee Pity. To each, her own, I guess. I thought the storage cabinet looked one thousand percent nicer.

Nice Job but I honestly felt like it could have been more high end considering the size of the house. When I first saw the empty wall, I felt like it was screaming for a mega size art work, the Art is beautiful, it's just the scale that isn't working for me. The bench is not safe for the kids, it needs to go. Furniture could have been high end without taking the coastal feel, this one just looks cheap for me. Overall great job, I can't imagine how confusing it is to figure out what to do with the place.

Well, McGee has their own definite style so I think you either like it or you don't. I would not have put a rectangular bench across from another rectangular piece (the console). The dueling rectangles. And that fabric on the bench looks too casual and messy. I would have put in one small chair on that side or nothing at all. And I think the backs of those two chairs are too low for that space, that tall mirror makes absolutely no sense right there, and that tree is too small. If you're going to use a tree, then put it against the railing so you can see it as you walk up the stairs. On that side I would have used more furniture and tried to make it more functional. The space looks big enough for a chaise with two chairs, or a very small love seat with one chair, or two chairs with a bench, or even two chairs with a bar cart, just something more. There is no drama is that space, so to me it falls flat.

Theres never drama in any of it, it's very safe and therefore very popular, very mass market, homogenized, it takes no risks and has no particular personality to it. It's easy to copy and reproduce, that's why people like it. Oh I can do that too, that's the whole answer to her popularity . How much beige and linen can I look at? But there's an interesting way to do anything I suppose, it's like Chip and Joanna, this stuff is made to be branded by and sold en masse at Target.

The space was already good. The end result was ok but kind of bland. It could have stood out more against the impressive features of the space so that the finished product would hopefully have elevated the space.

I think what you know deep down is that this particular style of interior design has been overdone and is headed out the door. We need something new. I am over this look.
