Every time I listen to you I hear more of your ideals that are either things I have already started doing or want to do. I love your messages and cannot believe having found a place where there are people who believe in the same things as me! I am trying to do a complete overhaul in my life including: intermittent fasting, weight loss, decluttering, minimalism, evaluating relationships, getting out of debt, saving money, and pursuing my passions. Thank you so much for all you do- you guys have played a huge role in transforming my life!!

The idea that food is not entertainment is a great mindset for me to start incorporating into my life. I have a mild to moderate binge eating disorder and I turn to food to celebrate, comfort, punish and entertain. As a way to combat this, I’ve often starved or purged because of the guilt. Changing my mindset on food from entertainment to fuel I can feel is already helping me see food differently and approach it in a much healthier way. Even now, I wanted to go get a small ice cream as I’m listening but then I asked myself “is that going to fuel and provide nutrition for my body” and I had to answer “no”. I’m not hungry, I don’t need it, it’s not healthy so I won’t have it. I’ve tried so many things to change my attachment and attitude towards food and sometimes it just has to be worded in a certain way to click. It’s so simple, it’s unbelievable and that seems silly. But like I said, that wording has just cut through that fog in my mind and opened my eyes. Thank you so much 🥲☺️

Another amazing episode! So much useful and practical info here. I must confess I was happily surprised by your level of knowledge and understanding on nutrition. I think a lot of people don't know this much. Thanks for passing it on! I was so glad to hear words that I've incorporated into my life for the past couple years. I wish I knew all of this years ago. Great job!! Congrats!! xoxo

This pod cast has really added value to my life, thank you. As a blind person embracing minimalism and also a person seriously interested in improved health (I have lost 173 lbs in 5 years, now weighing in at 137 lbs), you were singing from my hymn sheet. Bless you for that. Can you tell me if your books and essays are available on audio discs as well as downloads? I am not very IT literate lol. Also, is there any chance the two of you will ever come to Nottingham England? Much love to you both Jane Day x

another great episode. I love you guys and got some great info out of this episode as usual. however, I have to disagree with your advice on diet. carbs is our friends. our body runs on it, it is our prefered fuel. eating things like rice, potatoes and fruits is not unhealthy. listen to some speeches from Dr mcdougal or Dr greger and let me know if they can be disproven in any way.

+Ruthann Amarteifio I think making educated decisions about your diet is great. First, I basically agree with Dr McDougal as well as Dr Campell and Dr Esselstyn's work highlighting that a diet similar to the Asian diet (rice, lots and lots of green veggies like green beans, bok choy, spring onions, etc, only a small amount of fish, no dairy, some tofu and nuts) seems to be very healthy. But other diets (The "Mediterreanean Diet" with lots of olive oil, whole grains, lots of veggies and fruits) also have lots of evidence they will also improve your health. The bottom line behind basically every "successful" diet? It's what you already know: Fruits and Vegetables! Whether or not you can convince someone to eat mostly fruits and vegetables, is the real question :)

Exactly! carbs are not the enemy. it sounds like their only major source of carbs is from the rice, since they are cutting out all other forms of sugar. It sounds like they are on the low carb bandwagon. They should definitely be eating more fruits and starches. And cycling.

carbs isnt enemy. But if one doesnt burn the gained carbs from eating enough, then the carbs would be in the end, unused carbs and would be become fats. so eat the amount of carbs you would use throughout a day. if its a non-active day, dont consume that much. if it is, then there is a need to consume more to store the energy needed for the active activity and also to replenish energy.

When you started listing the psoas and the glute medius muscles, I wanted to shout: try pilates!! I learned about those muscles from listening to my plates instructor. Pilates works lots of different areas targeting specific muscles and helps strengthen back and front muscle groups :)

Joshua, I'm surprised to know I have the exact same lifestyle, experience, and health problems as yours. I'm also gluten free, sugar free, low carb...etc. I also eat 2 meals a day: a light breakfast before working out, a big lunch, and some veggie juice for dinner. I've lost a lot of weight and cured my sciatica just by going gluten free and I still couldn't believe it. I find the pigeon pose helpful to easing lower back pain and sciatica.

plant based diet can be as cheap as dirt, i can live off rice, beans, some veggies/fruits forever and I enjoy it. i sometimes probably sepnt less than a dollar equivalent of food a day. even if i did not care about animal welfare and cruelty, i would go plant based for this reason alone.

In reply to the man who emailed in comparing a gorillas diet with ours: Humans are less genetically close to gorillas than to chimpanzees and bonobos. Our closest primate cousins, chimps and bonobos are omnivorous. They eat fruit, seeds, sprouts, leaves, flowers, bark, stems, pith, roots, mushrooms, small mammals, insect larvae, earthworms, honey and eggs. Of course, you would not catch me eating insects, earthworms and bark ;D

If you're hypermobile don't stretch. Doctor's / physios don't test for it, they are often not familiar with it. The problems you describe are consistent with someone who is hypermobile. The beighton is easy to do at home, if you are see someone who is familiar with the issue. Ironically someone who is hypermobile can have some areas that are really tight because the body tries to protect itself but tightening the muscles. Stretching will feel good in the short term but will make the problem worse. Contrary to what is often recommended strengthening the muscles that are tight is the best long term solution. I only started making progress when my physio banned me from stretching. As muscles get stronger they can stabilise the joint (because the ligaments are too lose and don't do it well enough). As they are more stable, range of motion will improve. Foam rollering is also really helpful to relax muscles but without making the problem worse long-term.

Eat more sardines and eggs for cheap protein. Gravity is free. Don't worry about moving weights if you're not good at moving yourself. Push ups (different variations) pull ups, dips (using gymnastics rings or a walker), squats.

Great podcast as usual. Joshua, do you do push-ups, squats and pull-ups everyday or do you wait 48 hours in between? I've read that it's good to let your muscles recover for 48 hours before working them out again but I wasn't sure if what I read was true. I'm a pescetarian as well and I have felt my best ever since I started eating this way. Thank you both for everything you do and sharing your experiences and knowledge.

i enjoyed this. health and the decisions we make about them are individual. whether someone eats meat or not is THEIR choice. no one should cast judgement. About the bananas....I disagree. natural sugars arent bad..:) Great down to earth informative podcast! :)

You're wrong. Eating or not eating meat is not a personal choice like eating or not eating say almonds. By ordering/buying meat, you are actively supporting the meat industry. You are voting with your money for animals to continuesly getting artificially ensaminated (sexual exploitation), tortured and killed, just so you can have a snack. You are literally forcing your believe of it being your 'right' onto the animals, who pay with their lives. This is utterly unnecessary. Apart from the health aspect, animal agriculture is destroying th planet. It's number one reason for deforstation, for water consuption etc. etc. - that goes way beyound an individual'S selfish preference of the taste of meat. Look into it. Open your eyes, not just for you, but for the animals and for the future generations.

Sugar isn't inherently bad for you, every cell in your body runs on glucose, especially your brain. It sounds like you are on the low carb bandwagon. There is nothing wrong with pasta, except if you are gluten intolerant. That's great you don't eat much meat and dairy. More and more data is always being discovered on how bad meat is for you. I would also stay away from fish, not just because of the ethical standpoint, but also because of the slew of toxins contained in fish.

I don't understand how you can be a minimalist and not be vegan. Eating ANY type of meat of ANY amount of diary (fish is meat too), contributes to SO much waste, not to mention animals' abuse and suffering. If you put money into any of this, you are contributing to it. Do your research (not sponsored by meat or diary industries) and give veganism another thought. Oh my god and the comment about the bananas and sugar...are you kidding me? Carbs (which equals sugar which equals glucose) is what your body and brain runs on. There's a reason why gorillas don't eat meat and diary and there's a reason why we as humans are attracted to SWEETS. I don't mean candy, but fruits...?! Of course. Good sugar, good energy. Like the High Carb Cycling said, after turing vegan I have NEVER felt better, or looked better, or had this desire to exercise that I do nowadays. Love you guys, but this was really disappointing to hear.

Minimalist doesnt necessarily mean environmentalist. Or vegan. Minimalist is living an intentional life without excess. The fact he is pescaterian. Is a step above the most including me. Celebrate the victories he has obtained. Dont sneer at the flaws you may see.
