This story would make a great movie as a Mormon period drama.

These theater performances that JS enjoyed so much definitely deserve an episode in the Mormon Origins HBO drama that exists in my head.

@@kol2456 Right?!! I've thought the same thing. A show like that would make game of thrones seem tame by comparison. 😂 It's funny, when I was a member I hated learning about Mormon history. Too dry, boring and confusing. Now as an exmo, it's one of the most fascinating topics I've ever studied, and I can't get enough of it!

Incredible story! Thank you. My heart aches for those poor Mormon women and girls coerced, fooled then trapped into polygamy.😢

Shelise from cults to consciousness said her ancestor was the first woman to be baptised in England I think on her podcast. I wonder if your wonderful speaker knows that. As a historian and non morman totally facinated and captivated. Wonderful! CC from Ireland

Simply delightful to hear this, I did not know anything about the 'cultutmral hall' or these torid details of early mormon life.

Really fascinating stuff, as another “nevermo” that listens to podcasts like this one and Mormon Stories I think some of this history also better explains what was going on in the wider US culture at the time so I really appreciate the scholarship on more obscure and neglected topics like this. I kinda like the intro but in the end it’s up to you if you want to change it, another things about Mormon culture from that time that has really fascinated me lately is the Deseret alphabet that Brigham Young promoted for a short time and that was supposed to improve the English language (or further isolate his followers depending on who you ask) and I would love it if you made a future episode on this.

Great observations! We love our nevermo viewers because of the bigger picture perspective you bring to everything! Thanks for watching!!

I'm thoroughly confused since I came in midway, but the end justifies the beginning so I plan to sit down with this tonight and enjoy what seems to be a melodrama/tragedy. I detect a bit of 19th century embellishment in the speech patterns of the presenter, and it sounds so familiar to me despite not having lived then. That's the legacy of growing up Mormon.

So fun! I remember when I went to Nauvoo and to the cultural hall. I had the same question about its name when I saw the program from one of the drama productions calling it the Masonic House

I’m just catching this late but look forward to listening , I learned something new when I was on the Mormon live for Nemo . I didn’t know you and Landon were still members of the church ? It’s so incredibly brave to do what you are doing and I so appreciate the shows that you do . We need your voices now more than ever . I would love to get a mug Rebecca how do I order one ? I have a lot of mugs my daughter travels the works and always brings me a mug from wherever she goes , I’m running out of room to stack them lol 😊

Pizarro was a play about the conquering of the Aztecs! There has to be another connection between Native Americana and the Mormon narrative of Lamanites.

Not that anyone asked, but I'm OK with the intro music. It is not my style but it is also not my channel, and I think that the upbeat vibe of the music is in keeping with the stated aim of the channel to help those "...seeking a joyful life as they navigate their faith journey outside of orthodox Mormonism." So that makes it a good choice. Or so it seems to me.

I would love for Lee to do a program on David Dutton Yearsley, who has been overlooked as a key player in helping Smith financially during his time in Nauvoo. I had been married into the family for 30 years. While the faithful family members portray the two as being BFFs, I see a different story, where Yearsley was betrayed by Smith and other higher ups, possibly even being murdered in Winter quarters.

Hellens story does not sound like a married girl when talking about Adams being at their house.
@bellesinger50752 ай бұрын
The star of Pizzaro was Jacob Hatch. It could have been Jeremiah who married Sydney Rigdon's daughter, but it is more likely Jacob. This is because John Jones died and Jacob married his widow Hannah Gailey Jones.
