I've been listening to Keto stuff on You Tube for over a year.Cortisol, carbs, insulin resistance, yada yada yada .... thought I understood it. I've NEVER heard the liver function explained like this 😨. It's the LIVER'S job to provide sugar to the body. It is not OUR job to provide the sugar. That blew me away - that any time I'm ingesting sugars I'm interfering with what my liver is doing naturally. What a fantastic video ✅✅✅

Hands down the most practically educational channel on KZbin, and I have a heavy biology background. Such good stuff.

"Heavy biological background" is a funny way to say "I'm a fat living being" Just kidding, I agree, excellent content, very much in line with all my self experiments, experience and doesn't contradict other things that are proven to work like Bodybuilding principles. Most other channels contradict at least one of these and other things I know to reliably work

Dr. Ted Naiman ( spelling ) talks about simple calisthenic exercise to failure. The idea is to do anything, lift you feet off the floor while sitting, sit up without touching the back of the chair, etc. until you have to stop. You stop because your muscles have reached failure. They start drawing from your liver glucagon. Add in some arm exercises, leg exercise, squats, planks for abdominal exercise to draw out your muscle glucagon. Repeat several times. This takes about (15) minutes at home. You can do this while watching TV or listen to KZbin. It is basically free. Start simple and do not make it complicated. Three push-ups becomes 4 and 4 becomes 10. You are not trying to count them, just do them until you are wanting to stop. It is so easy a caveman can do it...
@alexandersevdinoglou49554 жыл бұрын
It is not glucagon - it is glycogen that the liver and muscles store and supply if needed. Glycogen is converted to glucose that the brain needs. Glucagon is produced by the pancreas as is insulin. Glucagon triggers the release of glycogen to start the circle.

It's so refreshing to hear a no-nonsense doc talk about the emotional addiction to carbs in such detail. People often think they're weak because they can't stay on a diet but the explanation of carb addiction hits it on the nail. The things we crave are the things keeping us fat. How exactly do we deal with that emotional attachment. I'm scanning through Dr.. C's videos to see if he talks about that specifically. I do know from experience that eating Keto does take away the cravings for periods of time and I understand why. Thank you Doc C for your enlightenment. :)

But there are a few things in concerned about. I've begun having liver pain, just under my right lower rib. I am attempting to increase my potassium intake and salty lemon water intake to see if that helps. Is it normal to have liver and kidney pain when first starting the ketogenic diet? Thank you for your excellent educational video!

Dr. Cyves, you correctly described how the liver's glycogen is stored for emergencies. During fight/flight the liver dumps glycogen to be converted to glucose for quick and dirty energy. What you stated after that needs rethinking IMO. Exercise (meaning elevated heart rate) does not have the same effect on the body as movement (normal heart rate). Exercise is interpreted by the body as fight/flight, cortisol rises, insulin rises, fat burning is turned off. During sustained exercise, with liver and muscle glycogen depleted, the only way to replenish glucose is muscle breakdown. The body is in the same panic mode as in starvation when all fat stores have been depleted. Endorphins are not a reward for exercise, but a consolation prize for what your body believes is your imminent demise in order to make your last moments less miserable. The liver does not dump glycogen in response to body movement--that would be silly in terms of survival. Muscle glycogen is used. Cortisol and insulin remain low, and fat burning continues. Muscles are not broken down for GNG. This is exactly why non-elevated heart movement is preferable to exercise, regardless of what "everybody knows." Yes, studies may show benefits from exercise, but how does one know that they are not compensatory for the stress? Long term, repeated sustained fight/flight stress imposed on the body will have negative consequences. Maybe one needs to be at least 60 to remember that the "workout" paradigm did not exist prior to perhaps 1980. No one ran or jogged prior to perhaps the mid-'70s. People did not have more physical jobs. There were hundreds of thousands of telephone operators, secretaries, clerks, and elevator operators, for example, whose jobs were sedentary, and have mostly been replaced by automation. And yet everyone back then was healthier--obesity and diabetes were far less common. Even if you suggest that people walked more--and even that is arguable--that does nothing to support exercise argument, only movement.

i've read and followed both pro sugar (ray peat mostly) and pro fat- metabolic improvement diet, i've removed my obesity (from 95kg-ish to 55kg-ish (yes its too drastic) in 1 year with keto diet and some routine run and morning walk, but lose most of my muscle strength and feel sluggish too in progress, then i added sugar and carb back and i got my muscle tone again. my conclusion for you that just about to try this, either to maintain or lose weight: keep in mind that ketogenic diet is good way to reset your body and to reduce fat storage in you body tissues, but once you get your ideal weight, add balanced amount of carb back slowly (not refined sugar, ok), to make your sluggish liver function back to normal, there is alot of good minerals and vitamin in fruits and starchy food, cut half of carb only if you are not an active person. otherwise if you followed keto diet for too long you will have to keep up with supplements for those missing good nutrition from those foods we are missing from keto diet (which is not great for you in long run). now im on my 70kg and feel much better, eat what ever i want and alwats maintain the weight and easily lose weight or add if i wanted to. remember no diet is good for you in long term, make sure to eat anything in modest and stay active. its our live style that makes us feel worst than ever. look how other primates in a jungle eat tons of sugar from fruits every day and they still looks fit and healthy. then see them in a zoo and they become obese like us, fruit sugars and carbs are not the enemy if you are active and metabolically fit. for more knowledge, find danny roddy or strong sister youtube channels, they are not MD or scientists, they are people like us that have been experimenting with different diet. and its been my good journey to connect the dots from them and people like this doctor. last thing, dont consume supplement unless you know your bloodwork test and have a good source of real supplements derived from real food around. cheer have a good life.

Why is the liver sluggish if fatty liver was reversed by eating low sugar? The liver is what made all your ketones you used just fine being in ketosis. I said the same thing when I approached maintenance and all I hear is an excuse to eat more carbs again, like an alcoholic asking for just small amounts of alcohol a day. I'm calling you out and wish someone did for me. Please consider. 🙏

Hi doc, love your direct approach. I am in the uk and trying to find a reason for my recent NAFLD cirrhosis. All my liver enzymes are in perfect range. Lipid panel good. No insulin/diabetes issue. I don’t take any medications and have no health issues. I am overweight by 40lb. 7 yrs ago I had colon cancer (I was only 30yrs old). I had a left hemicolectomy. I was told to have 6 months of chemotherapy but I only agreed to 6 weeks. My hepatologist seems to think the chemo did it. I don’t agree. It likely contributed but I believe it is my colon surgery that has caused these issues. What do you think? Could cutting the portal veins and surrounding veins be causing a toxic back up? Would really appreciate your opinion. I need to figure out the cause in order to save what I can. I’m on a clean strict keto plan already. Many thanks
