I had to press my NP at the VA to authorize a CAC scan. She didn't know what it was when I first mentioned it. When I got the result back, it was 9.3. She was anxious for me to see the cardiologist thinking that it was a bad score. I had to call up the CAC charting on my phone to show her that it wasn't that bad.

I'd love to consult with Dr. Cyves, but I can't wait six months. I'm going to see a cardiologist as soon as they can get me in and hoping for the best. All of my numbers look really good except LDL, which so many YT docs say doesn't matter. Got a CAC test a 5 or 6 years ago and it was 0 so I thought I was good. I just got a carotid artery ultrasound that states my arteries are 23 years older than I am, and I am not young. My primary Doc just wants me on statins or Repatha. I don't want statins and insurance said no to Repatha (I guess they'll pay for the heart attack or stroke when it comes) so I'm upping my K2, D3, MG regiment and hoping for the best until I see the Cardio, but expect to have more statins pushed on me. I've been on keto, IF and the works and look better than I did 20 years ago, but inside I'm in bad shape. None of the docs who think outside the box on YT are really accessible and without any real guidance, people like me are doomed. I'm so tired of dealing with medical crap, think I'll going back to watching squirrels water skiing so I'll have a smile on my face when the big one comes.
@nataliajimenez187011 ай бұрын
I think that carotid ultrasound is not very sensitive. Better to do another CAC and then the stress test like Dr Cywes suggests
@mikelemoine426711 ай бұрын
@@nataliajimenez1870 Thanks for your reply. I am waiting for a call back from the local hospital to get a new CAC scheduled. The carotid ultrasound is said to be 96% accurate for predicting risk from soft buttery plaque while the CAC only sees calcified plaque, so they have different purposes. Supposedly the buttery plaque is more likely to cause a CV event as it is unstable and can break loose, while the calcium doesn't. I'm hoping to get the CAC done before the cardio appointment as I already have the carotid scan and a comprehensive blood panel through MDVIP Cleveland Clinic. My HDL and triglycerides are right in the middle of good, my A1C was 5.4 and that was on a 6 month keto break (was once 6.9) and my EKG looked good. I'm sure the cardio will have me do a stress test, but I don't foresee any issues as I did outdoor projects all Summer pouring concrete and digging trenches by hand in the Florida sun. My heart rate was up there and no issues at all. I supposedly have "sticky" LDL and thickened arterial walls so they want me on pharmaceuticals stat. Sucks to get old....

Get another caca and see where your at after being keto and upping the K2. I am in a similar boat. Went Carnivore. I am a Lean Mass Hyper responder (LDL > 210 HDL 94 Triglycerides 72) It freaked my doc out and he sent me for a CAC which scored a 400. 😬 I know it’s from earlier so I am sticking to my carnivore keto diet. Your vitimam set is good (I am in the Koncentrated K formula) In addition to that I take EPA every other day and 400mg niacin daily and most importantly 1gram of GlyNAC per day. I have considered the Natokynese in high dose as was already suggested but will add that if my followup CAC is still rising. On the above plus exercise for a year I am feeling great. Next CAC will be later this month.

I went to a lab (TriCore, I appreciate) and had the labs run, and then went to a local Xray (XRANM) site. My CAC score is over 5, 000. What is wrong with medical doctors who scoff and laugh at a patient who is looking for prevention and NOT a heart attack? This is shocking! Research and question---refuse and walk out may be our best defense. Thank you, Dr. Cywes, for being courageous enough to fight, fight, fight for proof of all of your patient's full diagnoses!

From what I've heard, a statin can raise a CAC score but that is not necessarily a bad thing. This is because some docs think that the statin can calcify, and therefore stabilize, soft plaque. And it's the soft plaque that is most likely to result in a stroke or heart attack. Calcified plaque is your body trying to repair the damage done to your arteries from things like inflammation, smoking, high blood pressure, etc. This is stuff I've found from doing my own research since I got a CAC score of 610 last month. Taking my health into my own hands. You can do the same. Good luck!
