What a completely intelligent explanation of the representative/democratic distinction. Alas, how the millions and millions who need to understand this will not, and will continue not to, because they will instead go by the pablum dished out to them by rhetoric-spewing politicians and their cohorts. This talk should be assigned reading for every student at every level -- but, no. None shall be so blind as those who cannot hear.
@Bill_Woo6 жыл бұрын
Well, just in case it should be mentioned - There Are None So Blind As Those Who Will Not See: According to the ‘Random House Dictionary of Popular Proverbs and Sayings’ this proverb has been traced back to 1546 (John Heywood), and resembles the Biblical verse Jeremiah 5:21 (‘Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; which have eyes, and see not; which have ears, and hear not’). In 1738 it was used by Jonathan Swift in his ‘Polite Conversation’ and is first attested in the United States in the 1713 ‘Works of Thomas Chalkley’. The full saying is: ‘There are none so blind as those who will not see. The most deluded people are those who choose to ignore what they already know’.

@@man-rd6jf Didnt Peter factor in the misplaced perceptions of the market into his analysis already? I thought we passed the stage of market confusion and misplaced optimism and the end of the dollar and strength of the Chinese yuan began at the beginning of this year. That's what Peter very clearly said a few days before new years 2017, 11 months ago. He said he has never been so convinced that his strategy was correct and the dollar was beginning its way down and the yuan was beginning its way up at the beginning of the year. Despite basically every country dumping the dollar in masses, its still rising. Why is it not falling dramatically? And this isn't new. The systematic dumping of the dollar began about 5 years ago.
