Trucking is so crooked, I ran a few months as a fresh and clueless O/O ignorant of how FSC worked and turns out I wasn't getting squat. Knowledge is power! Great video.

Thank you so much for your video explaining in simple terms the FSC and its ramifications, and how there is reason to doubt the "legalese" in language used by Prime, perhaps by many other trucking companies (because Prime might not be the only exception to that strategy to skim off ill-gotten revenue at the cost of the trucker).

For that final equation is it 1200 miles x .26= 312. Is the 312 refer to gallons or how much you will spend on fuel?

OK this is probably a stupid question but I'm just a little suspicious now . The people I drive for otr is deducting the cost of the fuel off the top of each load we run. as a independent contractor and since all the fuel is deducted off the load and effects my pay shouldn't I get part of the fuel surcharge check that the owners of my truck recieve. Yes or No.... Thanks for the awesome video. Very informative.
@MarkStaite6 жыл бұрын
If the cost of fuel shows as a negative number on the settlement (as it should) AND the FSC shows as a positive number, then everything is fine and accounted for properly. The FSC is off-setting the cost of fuel. Now... If the FSC does NOT appear anywhere on the settlement to off-set the fuel cost, then you're probably getting screwed. I can't answer this properly without seeing your weekly settlement sheets.

Interesting history lesson for those of us who are just starting out and how it works, and I find it amazing that it has not changed much in nearly 40 years. I have a question that is a bit off the topic but I hope you could shed some light on it. My question has to do with the "coffin sleepers" that some Prime drivers have, as someone who is a fairly "big and tall" man would they stick me in something that small or could I opt to have a full size?
@MarkStaite9 жыл бұрын

You are really pro on what you do my friend 👍🏻. Please allow me to ask Question 1) can you explain how this surcharge is paid for leaser and o/o and company drivers..? Question 2) is fuel surcharge what you (the driver) pays instate of the actual sticker price on the pump? or is addition fee that the driver pays on the top of the price of the pump? I am little confused...Thank you in advance Mark...

I get a 1.40 flat rate as an owner op??? Lease company say fuel surcharge is included in the rate
@boucherycw9 жыл бұрын
Thank you Mart, first question is what about the refer fuel? Do you get FSC for refer fuel. Second, why is the OO responsible for any of the fuel? The cost of the fuel, should be built into the cost of the freight. The way any other business would determine the cost to sell anything. e.g. the cost of stolen retail item is add to the cost of the item sold.

@MarkStaite8 жыл бұрын
1st... Verify on your settlement that you're being paid FSC to begin with. If you are, then ask your fuel department how your company calculates FSC. If they respond with "I don't know", then ask them to find out and get back with you. Be persistent and keep asking... Somebody there knows.

Brokers off of loadboards dont consider fsc they might get paid for it by shipper but won't pass it down to carriers. Broker most of the time only pay for linehaul with possible accesorials if you qualify they might haggle on the linehaul rate $50+

I have a question, plz I hope someone sees this, Do most brokers pay fuel surcharge? Because sometimes I get good rates but I'm noticing some rate confirmations don't show any fuel surcharge..so I wanna know if this company is skimming me out, im on a load right now pays 3000 for 1700 miles, it shows kno fuel surcharge n im like fuck it doesn't make sense, plz anyone id appreciate it
@MarkStaite3 жыл бұрын
In today's spot-market... Most brokered loads are considered "All In" when your negotiating total revenue for the load. Notice I said 'most'. You have to ask the broker for details like FSC as well as Lumping/Unloading charges. Every brokered load is different. If you don't ask, you don't get.

Correction: The company should be passing through 100% of FSC collected from the customer to the I.C. drivers at Prime.
