EP12 Project Lotus Hunter: 6 Speed C60 Gearbox shifter conversion and brackets for MR2 Spyder swap

After last week's long 35 minutes episode, this week we finish the Transmission build for the Swap into the Toyota Mr2 Spyder zzw30 (MR-S). You should notice it, but I have finally decided to use another editing software because Imovie was ruining my life by corrupting my files. I am using Final Cut Pro X and have for the first time tried to do some color grading. It should look better! Tell me what you think.

Step by Step Process:
To do prior: remove 6 Speed shifter shaft and linkage. Do the same with the 5 Speed shifter linkage and shaft too.
1:54 Take 6 Speed shifter linkage appart, prepare the swap shaft on cover
2:15 Remove both gromets in the shaft that hold everything together
3:00 Remove gromet at the tip of the shaft
3:09 Now remove everything and take good note of the order the parts are assembled
3:40 Re install all the parts removed above in the reverse order you removed them (identical to when you disassembled everything)
5:02 Key point: Make sure the teeth are facing in the right direction!
5:30 Now retrieve the mr2 5 speed shifter linkage and end link
6:12 Install external shifter linkage for 5 speed onto the 6 speed swap shaft
7:18 Reinstall Swap shifter into your 6 speed transmission (C60)
8:53 Trace holes for Shifter linkage bracket onto the housing that is missing on the 6 speed
9:06 Drill 2 holes of 8.5mm
9:16 Thread the two 8.5mm holes with an M10 Threading tool, or with the Original Toyota Threads
9:38 Assemble Linkage Bracket onto 6 Speed with the given threaded holes and screws
10:10 Install the 2 missing Brackets from the 5 Speed Mr2 Gearbox, install 5 speed reverse 5 speed sensor and 5 speed shifter cable brackets.
11:39 Bonus. For all you guys who think the 1ZZ clutch goes on the 2zz... WRONG!

@@JesseSpec I'm in South Australia. I have my 2zz-ge and c60 gearbox ready to go, I just need the supporting parts to fit it all into the mr2. I'm hoping to have them early next year, I do have the manual conversion parts to change mine from smt though as well. Lots to do haha

Good video. What’s the actual difference between the diameter of both flywheels in measurements? I’m actually in tge exact same situation, in the middle of the swap and I have a nice Ogura flywheel +clutch I was planning to use again. Don’t you think you can open out the holes to make it suit?

That sounds dodgy to me. Don’t do it. Best is to buy a 2zz flywheel 👍🏼

I am thinking of getting a slightly lighter flywheel an heavy duty clutch...but i am still researching whether to go light with flywheel or stay stock ....what are your thoughts about this?

Hi, on the 1zz I had a full OS Giken STR clutch and I thought it was lighter but it actually wasnt to my surprise. My next clutch will definitely be lighter. I want increased rev response and I am willing to sacrifice some compfort/ ease of drive for it ;-)

I have some questions: If we do all the stuff you did in the c60 transmission, it is possible to use it for the stock 1zz engine?, It can be use the stock flywheel for the 1zz or needs the one for the 2zz?, also do you recommend to swap this c60 to the 5 speed for a 1zz mr2?. Is because I need to replace my stock gearbox because it is not in good condition, and I am thinking about put the c60 to get shorter gears. Thanks.

Hi! Thanks for your comment. I think having an lsd is a must. But I am not sure if the 6speed gear ratios are suited for the 1ZZ. Whats for sure though, don’t make the mistake of swapping the 2zz and not adding the 6speed to the package. The 5speed has really long ratios that don’t suit the 2zz in my opinion. I might have a used 5speed transmission available. Where do you live?

the reverse even by hand I can get it , the only way is removing the plunger from the block out . btw the transmission works perfect , all the gears r good it was working good except for the reverse . mine is flat in the bag and doesn't need the plug . I don't know what else to do does there is any difference in the shafts from the M Racing store ? length maybe? PLEASE HELP

@@JesseSpec I purchased both parts from MWR and nothing ! yes it shift the 6 gears but there is NOOOO way to get the reverse . There is couple videos here of guys grinding plunger from the blockout that way they can get more travel in the stick , others saying put some washers here and there ! bull crap . the griding stuff make more sense cuz with out it , by hand I can get Into reverse but the gears are crazy DANGEROUS . please let me know if you have diferent 6spd tranny if the shaft is different ! thanks

my bad I wrote couple things wrong hehhe!!! I was tying to say the back of the tranny . By any chance if u have a shaft that has work for u can u measure it? not even mwr no's shit

@@danielgiles6509 hi! Yes i had the same issue! Solved it by installing a washer as explained in the parts manual of the mwr kit! Don’t grind anything 😱👍🏼👍🏼
