Adams guitar style is so unique being able to see his hands has unlocked so many riffs I didn't know how to play or were playing wrong. Like the "solo" in Stinkfist. I was playing it down the neck with open strings for years and it sounded okay until I saw he went all the way up the neck to the high octaves on the low strings and as soon as I played it that way it was a revelation.

I always like to imagine Tool was experimenting with bootleg shit behind the scenes. Cause their all “don’t do what we tell you.” And then turn around and are all, “don’t bring cameras to shows.” So, in my mind, these guys were trying to keep Tool shows very mystical by making these relics to be watched and passing them around illegally cause “Fuck the man!” You know?

I literally shit my pants when they played Third Eye. I was talking to a guy in the crowd when Timothy Leary came on. He said "third eye", I said "no, they played this last year and then went into something else. Never played third eye. They're teasing us", then when the heartbeat and Bill Hicks came on, I progressively lost it as it became more obvious they were really gonna play third eye. My favorite song of all time, this was the first and only time I saw them play it live.

It seems like Tool experiments with different ideas and riffs and jams for years before they turn into fully developed songs. Same happened with Descending, They played early versions of it as far back as 2014. Radiohead does the same, They played some songs live for years before the song actually showed up on an album.

Not to be contrarian, but while I see Lateralus as their magnum opus, you can tell that Maynard had already peaked vocally. Aenema was probably his peak. Before years of touring with APC was added along with Tool. You can tell in “Cold & Ugly” he was losing it.

As a guitar player and Adam Jones ripper offer, I appreciate this footage more than any other concert footage. I like how you did close ups that show little nuances in the way songs are played. For example, I never noticed Adam used his neck pickup on H. until I first saw this video back in the day. Although I’ve been to 9 Tool shows and usually stood right in front of Adam, I didn’t notice these things because I was always on too many...uhm...drugs.

That sounds good enough, it's hard to tell exactly what he plays but that must be close.

When I first saw them. I loved their music, but had no idea what the show was going to be. Didn't even know what they looked like. Then The Grudge starts up. & From that point until the end my head was experiencing one massive explosion like a million sticks of dynamite going off like dominoes. 🤯 They are AWESOME LIVE!!!!

I was there! Walking distance from my house. Lowell, Massachusetts. Birthplace of the American Industrial Revolution! Machines operating on water power. Great show! RIP Ryan McMahon. March, 2003. At 28 years young.

Anybody else think the prelude to parabol on this sounds familiar to the first part of Culling Voices? Cool way to freestyle and put something in the bank to use later😎

H. is still one of my favorite songs of all time. And I love playing it on guitar. It influenced one my bands most popular songs. Chopu. Wednesday if not Before. Google it. You'll probably find.

I don't know who Rawson is, but his filming is spectacular! Kudos to you, sir!!! This video really captures the mystique of the band and its talent. Combined with the fabulous quality of the audio, this is one of the quintessential performances of the band that have been captured and preserved for posterity. We owe all those involved a debt of gratitude!

It's amazing to see this footage...I saw them twice in '96 for this tour and memories for me are HD and still vivid...yet this video quality makes me think I'm watching some Opiate-era bootleg in some seedy LA open mic bar. Tool is iconic and ageless...just unreal
