Great video Dave - loved listening to the sound of the sponge on the bodywork - reminded me of when I cleaned my car in the 90s. The good old 99p sponges were utilised when washing the car with Turtle Wax Hot Wax car wash. The sponge would turn permanently dark grey or black at the end of the wash 🤣.

um stands for Micron. I mainly uses sponges as I hardly do hose washes and do rinseless washing 95% of the time. So I use the Optimum Big red sponge or the DIY legacy sponge. You also dont want to use a sponge fully saturated. you want to rmove some of the water so the sponge has wicking ability to pull the dirt into the pores. I dont like using sponges with a hose wash.

I bought a Soft99 Qjutsu sponge with their Creamy shampoo... where you apply slightly diluted shampoo direct to sponge then foam up with the sponge cell structure and wipe over the car. All felt very alien, and it was much slower than wash mitt method - but - seemed 'safe' as high lubricity and sponge's softness. I've decided to use it now and again, but only on a well pre-washed car. (Bilt Hamber Touch-less snow foam is utterly awesome.) Nice vid anyway Dave, love the humour :)

Great video Dave , been doing a lot of rinseless washing lately with Feynlab Pure Rinseless, only have a 5 mile work journey so the car doesn't get to dirty ,just pollen and dust. I use The Rag Company Ultra Black Sponge , pre rinse and pre soak the panels and no problems so far 👍. Must admit it was quite strange to begin with, always rinse in a clean bucket . I bought one too, Dave. I have to be honest, whilst it was alien, it did clean the parts of the car I chose to use it on and I searched for marring and didn't find any. It's also interesting that, as seen in your video, the thing suds up more and more as you use it. I'm wondering if this thing will be better left to soak in the shampoo bucket (maybe with a little shampoo on it) to allow it to soak up the soapy water? 1 thing I think, it's better on glass than microfibre and it's better on intricate grill areas too. Even if this gets resigned to grills and glass, for what I paid, it's fine by me. All the best. 👍

Believe it or not i still like the sponge for cleaning the car as well as a wash mitt but i am wondering if the hype about wash mitts etc is all to do with money making as most are from £10 upwards when a good old fashion sponge is £1. On the surface of the sponge you can see if there is dirt etc on it and when coming out the wash bucket you can look at the face of the sponge but the wash mitt in my opinion could trap dirt in which it's not visible to the eye , I know I have very little experience in car cleaning but this does concern me when using the mitt .

An interesting film. I myself am not convinced as I am either a M/F mitt or pad guy now but like you I started my journey with the sponge but that was in the 70's. DIY Detailing promote using a sponge but it has a different structure to that one and predominately used I think for rinse-less washes. I think this company were brave to take a stand at Waxstock. How was the show I heard it was quieter this year with less exhibitors?.

@@epicautomotivedetailing Why is it like that?. Surely we can all learn from others and have a debate on the pro's & con's. Someone needs to take a non swirled panel and wash it with both options then check for swirls to see if there is a difference. I think we may be shocked. I am not sure though that grit can be released from the structure of a sponge quite so easily once it is picked up. Just my opinion.

To be honest, I use both a wash brush and basic cheap sponges for my cheaper/disaster valets. A lot of my clients are generally not car-people as such so it makes literally no odds to them. Sponges for the Corsas, wash brushes for the vans and wash mitts for the Aston Martins. All of my contact washes use the single bucket method as well. A good thorough prewash with some decent citrus and you’re laughing. Think about it, the Corsa drivers don’t have a clue what the two bucket method is, and the Aston Martin owners keep their cars exceptionally clean in the first place. Only bringing them out of the heated garage to be cleaned and putting them straight back in 😂 Unnecessary!

For the today's subject, from my point of view is far more important that the ... whatever wash mitt, wash pad, wash glove e.t.c we are using,is that have to be AS clean as possible we can, on every contact with the paint, and not so much the mitt it self. Can i give you an idea, maybe you test it you will like it,maybe not...maybe for future video..... H good quality mf towel ( 70-30 blend, 500gsm edgeless category, many brands have them) Put 1-3 of those on the bucket with the soap folded in 4s.... And you have 8-24 ....100% clean, very soft high quality sides to use on the car wash process..... Just an idea..... Again congratulations My kind regards

I admire you great vid you've brought back the humour, but points off for trying it on the wife's car 😂. I work at a large university, and most of the cars are unwashed, or a complete disaster zone, which calls into question whether scientists can wash a car, never mind identify which is the safer wash media based on observed results. I do realise that soft 99 uses a sponge for their soft egg wash, and kamikaze has a sponge as well. Pdm did a test on which wash media was the safest, and a chenille nobly mitt was the best on test. I think I'll be sticking with the wash mitt. I have the ultra black sponge from the trc but I hardly use it, so I won't be buying this one. Sorry 😢

this new beaut foam is simply a variation on eggshell foam , traditionally used in soundproofing applications. Its attraction would be that it is cheap as chips to produce and, with a bit of pseudo scientific endorsement combined with its shear novelty, it'll sell like hotcakes. What does it retail for ?

Me??? I'm not the one who made the sponge. I actually agree it's way too overcomplicated that's why I try to simplify as much as possible in my videos. It's just a video on a sponge I wouldn't worry too much about it I just thought it would make a different topic from the norm.
