I've scoured KZbin for lesson tutorials on how to play this song, and yours was the best tutorial. As a beginner, I really appreciate the chord numbering, chord progressions, and repetition of playing each segment, close ups of your guitar neck, and the Strumming Pattern breakdowns are amazing. not sure if he mentioned it's originally played in Eb tuning (sounds more pretty and dark that way ((tune all strings down one half step)) but don't think it's necessary. play w/ those chords and remember the vocal melody is in those chords, you'll prob find yourself humming or whistling even if you can't sing (like me) great lesson. The time sig. is weird and changing, just feel it, have to be in sync w/your vocalist...one of the beautiful chemistry AIC had. Cantrell/Staley was effortless.

Sure, this is a fairly easy song to play, but that's not the thing here... I have always said, some people are made to play and teach, and others, and I say respectfully, have no business teaching. This is the second time I've come to this channel and the way this brother breaks down a song, is absolutely incredible and easy. There is one channel, which I won't mention, where the teacher overcomplicates the hell out of this song! He was all over the bloody place! Started the lesson in the middle of the song, played the solo parts more as if he were showing off his skil than teachings, an hardly explained anything! Not the case here! This is a channel worth watching. Today's lesson was definitely worth a sub!

You know, I have been playing for almost 50 years and I can tell you that I don't know any musician who doesn't go back to try and learn a song or at least, try and check out how a song is played and compare it to how they might play it. Apart from that, I have reached the age where I am now starting to forget many things that I already knew, so on top of comparing playing notes, in some instances, I truly need the help. It's not really bad yet, but I find myself getting lost in the middle of something I already knew... At this point, I can feel that it is apparent and it is getting progressively worse. This is why it's especially important to find an instructor who doesn't complicate things more than necessary. However, I'm not out of the game yet, and believe me, I can still tell a good instructor over one who is creating an audition reel! I'm not knocking these other guys, but it's hard for me to stay focused when an instructor is shredding when he should be breaking something down instead. I will be sure to check out some of your other content. Again, I appreciate your manner of teaching and instruction.

Started playing the guitar as a kid but haven't touched it in years. My 6yo wants to learn so I bought him one and got mine out. Started a few lessons with him and muscle memory started coming back. Anyways, I love this song so came to this video. Had a hard( ish) time with the changes UNTIL I watched your chord technique video. Now, I can play it! So helpful! Very excited to get back into playing the guitar.

Thank you. I had it all together, also the vocaling on the playing but that hammer on gave me so much frustration. After waching this, i picked up my acoustic and played exactly the same BUT did the hammer on part only picking this one string instead of strumming all the strings. It really popped out sounding so much better. And from there i slowely started adding the strumming without loosing the clear hammer on - sound. My eyes opened and now i'm smiling😊 Edit. Really nice lesson, as clear as it can be probably and in standard tuning which is what I was looking for. I especially liked the part where you did the strumming on the neck to show both the chords and strumming at the same time "zoomed in". Great video. Love this song and it's a great one to learn as a beginner. Always one of the first things I start to play when I pick up my acoustic. Didn't see it in the video or description but the original recording and unplugged performance has the guitar down-tuned a half step to Eb Standard so keep that in mind if you want to play along with them.

This is actually the first song I could play. Layne Staley is a fucking Legend. Only thing I didn't figure out was the hammer. I can recommend do at em7 just one downstroke when you start the song. it fits a little bit better. The double D is only necessary when you are in the song cuz you do one D to leave the cadd9.

Great lesson dude. For myself, what has helped is ...Cantrell is very laid bad, The time signatures change, bla, bla, technical...but it isn't as important is just playing it w. the vocals. the vocal is implied while you're playing the chords, you can kinda hum it w/little experiene. and you can play w/those 4 chords for ever...also, lift the pinky on and off the high e string in the Cadd9, make it you're little cue to switch to Em7... Also not sure if he mentioned it's originally played in Eb tuning (sounds more pretty that way ((tune all strings down one half step)) but don't think it's necessary. Play mtv unplugged on repeat, also Aaron lewis has been covering it beautifully for years.
