I bought my first PAM about 3 or 4 years back. Fast-forward a few years and the Panerai entrants have now come to dominate my collection. I'm tall and well-built, so big watches are a given for me. Not to mention, I just like the look of a larger, more statement-esque piece. To top it all off, I'm not at all a bracelet guy, so having a love for the most strap-friendly brand is the proverbial icing on the cake! I don't know that I've graduated to full Paneristi yet, but Panerai is definitely my favorite brand. I think they have done some really cool stuff with movements and materials over the past couple of decades. They have led some of the trends in different case materials (like the Bronzo and the carbon you mentioned). They have also come out with some really nice movements. I own an Equation of Time. Almost completely useless as a complication, but if you appreciate the art of watchmaking, a cool add to any collection. The one complication I do appreciate and use frequently is the GMT; Panerai has definitely created their fair share of those. I even like that they still embrace manual wind (I rotate my watches, so automatics are of almost zero value to me). Which brings us to the value proposition. No, not at retail. Rolex at retail, most other brands secondary market. If you are willing to dig deep and be patient, I'm not sure there is a better brand today for value for money. The above-noted EoT as a case in point... search up the complication in C24 and you will find that Panerai offers the least expensive EoT. Every other EoT is a proper high horology brand starting at several times the Panerai market price. I have even forayed into precious metal versions (I have one of the very limited release that The Rock is wearing in the magazine cover photo shown in the video). The premium on PM over stainless is lower on Panerai than almost any other brand out there right now (secondary market). Do they hold value? I think if you buy right, your worst case is a very slowly melting ice-cube, like nearly every watch brand. There is not a single brand out there that is a guarantee for future long-term value hold, not even Rolex. I'm fortunate to be money ahead on the PAM's that have come and gone, so no complaints from me. Just as good is that you don't have to tie up a bunch of cash to own an enjoyable collection the way you might with some of the bigger $$ brands. I'm sure some commenter will be quick to point out the missteps made by the brand. Fair criticism. It might lead some to forsake the brand, but I honestly don't care. I don't buy the "scandal watches" and the ones I do own are outstanding in all respects.

if you buy the classics like the 111, 000 and 372 at a decent price, you wont lose much if at all when you resell.. wont make money either lol

Yeah there’s definitely a few models that hold value well. Some even slowly appreciating but rare in this market. Most are just buys at 30-40 cents on the MSRP otherwise a waste of $

Still have hope for the brand with some of their new creative material creations coming out, but agree that it’s become more about profits than passion these years. Ever since Angelo Bonati left in 2008 the legacy has been fading. There’s still some great legacy models that fans continue to keep alive and well so time will tell

There’s still some hope with the creative materials they’re experimenting with, but agree that since 2008 when Angelo Bonati left it’s been a fading trend more dedicated to profits than passion. Some of the Panerai enthusiasts are keeping the legacy alive and keep the ongoing historic models. The new dress models are useless IMO

@@BennissonWatch I dont know how would they fix it to be honest. I understand every business needs to profit, but not on the expense of the Brand image, legacy and equity. No value retention whatsoever and this only comes when credibility is hit. I personally bought 3 pieces as limited editions in 2018/2019 one of them is in bronze. Today i still find the 3 of them on display at the boutiques. These things doesn't happen with other brands.

Panerai lost all integrity, probably worse than Hublot as a brand.
