My name is Penelope, Pene for short! Usually I have a chat about my life, crafting, cooking - well anything that comes up in my week. However today is a 'how to' vlog. I show you how to make a small lap quilt that can be of any size if you add to it! It could be plain, mixed or full on blousy like mine! I made mine from stash but a small group of fat quarters that blend would do very well. Or even better a layer cake. They are 10 inches square and you would cut them in half and quarters as needed.
I hope you enjoy it and it proves helpful.

I'm sure your quilting lesson was beneficial for many of your viewers. I could quilt but I don't. I might if I had gorgeous fabrics like yours. The film of your walk around your "patch" was lovely. You really have everything right near you - the sea, your garden, the farms, and the horses. And the birds! How I envy you your birds. Most of ours are gone and I fear it is the pesticides that cause it. Will look forward to your next film!

I really enjoy hand sewing which is why I mostly make EPP hexagon cot quilts. I feel more in control of the stitching when I do it by hand & it is very relaxing too. Thank you for showing how to make a quilt without matching seams, I could probably manage that on my machine !

Thank you for the lovely video! I am really inspired to try your techniques! I went to visit my Mum in Florida (she is 98) and I picked up Covid along the way. I came home and a day later was sick in bed for 3 days. I am just feeling human again and your videos kept me company as I recovered. It really helped watching your videos and watching the beautiful videos of the birds and the sea as it gave me a chance to enjoy nature and its beauty …. And hear your cheerful voice. Thank you for helping me through this rough spot! Cheerio!

I enjoyed this video even though I have made a number of quilts previously both by hand and machine, although I usually hand quilt them which takes longer but saves trying to fight the quilt under the small throat of my machine. Your 'Storm at Sea' quilt was very impressive for a hand pieced quilt 👏. Learnt a useful tip of the sandpaper block. A tip in return for the beginner's is to take a photo on your phone when you try different layouts and to keep your final choice for reference when joining just in case you need to put the work away before it's joined. Look forward to the next installment 😊

Thanks Lin, I'll make a note of that to mention in my next video. And black and white - shows the fabric well don't you think. Most of my quilts are hand pieced and hand quilted. Nowadays I'm finding it harder to wrestle with the big ones! I've never machine quilted any but have sent a couple to be long armed quilted. The verdict is out on whether I like that effect. For a couple yes but others no. Mmh. Thanks for your tip and support. xx
@linbourne8731
@linbourne8731 Ай бұрын
@@penelopeschinwag agree with you on the long arm quilting, if it is done sympathetically and quite sparingly it looks great but sometimes the quilt to my eye looks what I call 'quilted to death' and the piecing and pattern of the maker is totally lost under the pattern of the quilting. Good point about the black and white photo, I'd forgotten that xx

Hi Tracy, I don't wash fabric before I quilt unless it is red or looks like it could run. The Elmhirst fabrics were fine unwashed, although it is a personal preference. xx

Really enjoyed watching this super video; I am quite new to your channel and have already got a smallish piece of patchwork (to make a cushioned mat for my cat) but don't know how to quilt it, so I am doing a bit of slow stitching on top of some of the pieces, til I find out more. Look forward to seeing how to actually make the 'sandwich' and doing the quilting. (Also enjoying catching up with some of your older videos) Thank you Pene
