That brings back so many memories. I lived in New Barnet and can still remember my Mums and Nans Williams Brothers numbers and the trolley buses in Barnet. Going to the Home and Colonial shop for broken biscuits. Happy Days.... thank you for your and your Mums memories

Thanks for watching Pam, I remember broken biscuits from Home and Colonial shop too. You might enjoy episode 13 where Pete talks about his days growing up in Potter's Bar.

Thanks, Pene, for another very interesting podcast! I hope that you had a lovely time with your visitors and that you have survived the stormy weather intact. Your mum is an absolute star and I love listening to her telling us about her early life. The Isles of Scilly look delightful - it’s a place I’ve been wanting to visit ever since I read Why the Whales Came by Michael Morpurgo! Take care and see you soon, xx

We survived the storm intact but it delayed our friends visit by a couple of days, which means they are with us now. A treat.

I love your mum. You are very lucky to have had such a happy childhood and such a loving family. I look forward to every instalment. The Isles of Scilly look stunning. It must be so peaceful there, especially with no cars. How wonderful to fly there by helicopter. I hope you are having a lovely time with your friends. X

Thanks Anita, I was a lovely childhood, very uncluttered. Not many toys but doing things. The Scillies is tremendous. Another world. So peaceful and you feel away from everything. Will miss it this year again. Friends cancelled due to the winds but venturing here tomorrow. Hope it wasn't too bad for you. Wales was hit hard I think. I'll pass your love to Mum, it will make her day.

Croft knits are lovely and snuggly. Interesting where the saying ship shape and Bristol fashion came from. My dad said it all the time but then he was a merchant seaman so would know about loading the boat. Thanks Pen. It’s so amazing how birds large and small have a navigation system so they fly to certain places and fly so far. Great fact. Just love Evas reminiscing about Bruce Castle Park and life as it was and what a super first school. Scilly Isles so beautiful, red squirrels and puffins (my only experience being on a book cover) so great to see. Thanks so much Pen xx

Pene I could listen to your mum all day, she's so interesting and lovely. It's funny I'm a bit younger than you but some things made me smile like coal fires and ice on the inside of your windows. All things I remember from my early childhood lol Thanks for another lovely chinwag, enjoy your visitors x

Well, you said on your podcast you had a big birthday, but as you can work out mine was 23 years before! However, it shows you that the changes we take for granted now (no ice on the windows and feeling warm when you get dressed!) are relatively recent. Visitors coming on Sunday now due to the storm, thank you for your well wishes.

Thanks so much. Hoping next week mum is going to tell about the birth of my brother in 1956. I wonder if you will find any comparisons. Thanks for watching and for your comments.

Hello penny, i just had to tell you about this video,i thought your mum’s talk, what a wonderful lady, and the times that she went through, it bought tears to my eyes, such a lovely disposition, positive all the time i think she would have been. I liked that about her, and i think you might have that kind of personality as well, i know i think of my glass half full, and try to look on the bright side.but you can’t always be like that of course, some days just don’t work out like that. I like the saying about ship shape and Bristol fashion, and the story behind it,it reminded me of a holiday we went on to the Kimberley’s in Western Australia, a wild and unbelievable country, they have 30 foot tides there as well, we were on a lovely cruise ship with 36 passengers, you would go to sleep and wake up with the water up or down 30 feet, just amazing to see, wild with sharks and crocodiles, everywhere, the boat would take you into rivers and canyons, millions of years old,so beautiful the scenery,it was one of our favourite holidays, my husband caught a wild Barramundi fish, they have a helicopter on board and it takes you to a creek or a pool to fish,he became a member of the meter club, called that because his fish was over a meter long. Maybe you could look up the Kimberley region of australia,it’s facinating, also famous for the beautiful pearl industry there. Enjoy your video’s so much ,pamela hall

Hi Pamela, I shall certainly look up your Australian holiday it sounds a real exciting time of discovery and something to look back on. Thanks for reminding me of this episode. I too liked ship shape; learning new things keeps us fresh don't you think.

I look forward to watching chinwag. Your knitting grows fast🤣🤣 mine is a little on the slow side. I’m not that quick with the needles. Not as adventurous either with patterns, I wish I could knit fancy things.

A helicopter to go on holiday! How cool is that. The isle looks tropical with the palms. Thanks for sharing. always interesting to hear your mom's stories. It's hard to imagine rationing in this day and age. And that wasn't so long ago. A good reminder to be thankful for what we have. Hope you are having a fun weekend with your guests. 🤗

Well, we've had storm Eunice here in the UK and they decided to postpone their visit until Sunday, a sensible decision. The Abbey Gardens on Tresco are full of subtropical plants and visiting the Scillies is like being a world away. Very calming. I'll pass on your thoughts to mum😊
