I was at CJs the day Earl ran the 11 racks.. the final shot on rack 11, was a 3 ball combination that seemed impossible ..(especially for a mill) CJs poolroom was action 24/7. He was always approachable,and like today, a great ambassador for the game .

Man I just don't know how to thank you enough! So much wisdom in one video! THANK YOU, REALLY THANK YOU SO MUCH for this, sadly I picked up pool only three years ago, and I am thirty years old, currently joining the local league. I have fallen in massive love with pool it's crazy, listening to all these podcasts just motivates me so much, although I am a bit late to start with pool in my life, sadly. This is just great!

Never met CJ and I don’t remember where I first saw his videos (probably during the last year after buying my first cue and consuming every bit of youtube billiards knowledge you can find) but his way of speaking about the game is profound, which, between the technical and mental side of the game, there is more profoundness than you would think. There are people who learn from the purely technical and there are people who I guess have natural talent and a deep intuition for the game. Any great player with have a the necessary combination of these aspects. CJ is one of the few at the top, that has put so much thought into some of these intangible aspects of the game, that he can articulate these aspects to others. Whether others understand everything or not I guess depends on what stage of the process they’re at. Edit: just a bit after I wrote this comment, you mentioned to CJ that his quote about “when I stopped differentiating between easy and hard” was profound, and I agree. So I know you get what Im talking about. Statements like that are almost maxims. You can apply that line of thinking to almost anything

He's been staying more at home looking after his wife which I admire for his devotion and he is my mentor serious folks. He thrives off the Cameras called adrenaline high but he was never an ass hole just aggressive off the adrenaline rush theres a difference between the two things. When you can beat the Magician Efren "Bata" Reyes you are saying something!

Joey , I've watched most of your podcast so far and this one rates really high in my opinion. Mr Wiley , in my opinion has the most the most profound thoughts about pool I have ever heard ! His comments regarding his teaching methods alone are far and away different from most coaches. It almost surprises me he chose pool as his avocation....Seems as though "algerbaric theorems " or some such would have been his line of work. lol Seems a really smart guy , and to put it bluntly , not quite the type we normally associate with the smoky , dark ,profanity laden pool halls he probably grew up in....KUDOS to you both !

As I was listening to this discussion I'm a straight pool or 8 ball pool player I enjoy those games the most but maybe 2 increase the difficulty of nine-ball maybe within those nine balls the third and the seventh ball have to be banked or some variation of that that would add a level of difficulty especially for the more talented players what do you think
@DogginIt
@DogginIt 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. That would be interesting but I think want people want most is the break to not mean so much. The old days where players just broke hard and hoped to make something, it really did make for some interesting layouts.

You ask how pool can become popular again ? (1) First, get the high schools to have pool leagues to get the kids away from drugs. (2) Get APA and BCA to ban loud music in the places their leagues play and ban rap music too. (3) Pool halls should have "dry sundays" so church goers can play after church with no booze. (4) Senior centers and old folks homes should send teams to senior tournaments buy bus. Pool halls should have Thursday morning senior billiards clubs. (5) In a gambling city or venue, hold local pool duels on a 10 or 12 foot table in an arena, perhaps combined with a pro wrestling event.

A big problem with pro pool and people not watching or getting bored I think has to do with the prevalence of 9 ball. Most people don't play 9 ball and the ease to which people run-out makes it look easy/boring. Switch the game to 8 ball with minimal safetys. The runs and inevitably getting stuck will be the the highs and lows and much needed excitement besides being a game normal people have played so they can follow and understand.
@DogginIt
@DogginIt 4 жыл бұрын
It’s an interesting debate. Some say the game looks to easy but then when they play on tight tables and the pros miss, some say that makes it look too hard and people don’t want to watch.
