Penelope's Chinwag

Күн бұрын

Please join me for a chinwag about my week. I've finished another shawl, made some purchases to make over the coming autumn and winter months, and I tell you about Pete's experience at the hearing centre. How amazing is the razor clam who is the 'Ferrari of the underwater diggers'. A film telling the story of my week and another day of my holiday in June at Tresco, Isles of Scilly. We have now sold Mum and Dad's house and there are more 'treasures' to show you! If you feel like leaving a message I so value hearing from you. See you next time. xx

Hi Pene. It's especially lovely to see you today. We've had rough 24 hrs. My lovely father in law was rushed into hospital with respiratory problems. He's poorly but stable this evening. Listening to all your crafting plans and family stories has taken me away from everything. How cute, little Tommy helping with the laundry. Hearing aids are marvellous. My son is 27 this year and has been wearing them since he was small. The first time, he went outdoors with them in something I will never forget. He stood in wonder, hearing the wind and the birds. His little face was a picture. Have a lovely week, take care. X

Oh I'm so sorry to hear your news. I know he hasn't been well for a while. Lets hope he's in the best hands and comfortable. Crafting, even someone else's is soothing at times like these. I do so love little Tommy. I wish my knees worked like his rocking him backwards and forwards as he puts the washing in and takes it out. What a lovely memory of your son experiencing sounds he had never heard. A treasure indeed. Pete is thrilled with his for the same reason, being able to locate the birds and he says listening to his music is amazing, so clear. xx

Thank you again for brightening our day. We both wear hearing aids from Hidden Hearing & love them. My husband was similar to Pete with comments like “there’s nothing wrong”! However come autumn when robins could be heard making their “ticking” sound he admitted he couldn’t hear them! Love your latest Sunset Skies & all your yarn choices to keep you busy during the dark winter days. Great idea having projects in mind & also the yarn. I was thrilled to see the pic of you handing over your dear mums house to the new owners especially with the grand piano in the background. Your mum will be looking down approvingly with that lovely smile on her face. See you again soon, happy crafting. Dianne 😀

Something to look forward to in those darker evenings, although I'm just about to start the next Silver River Shawl with the honeycomb colour wool. How funny, we don't know what we're missing if we can't hear it. It's only when we hear it and then the aids are turned off we realise. Makes such a difference doesn't it. The piano staying at the house is lovely and they are all so excited. See you soon, xx

Thank you for the video, it was very inspiring. My husband has two hearing aids and his world is almost silent without them. Deafness is so socially isolating . The macaroons are very beautiful and handy - they could hold hearing aids! Perhaps without the magnet. What a great outcome for your parents home. I’m sure the new family will get much encouragement as they build a life there, that this was a happy home. X

I do keep a macaron handy for the aids. Also one will be used for my needles. There are endless uses for them and they are so enjoyable to make. It is a great outcome for the house and it's a lovely feeling to know the new family are so excited. Thanks for joining me, see you next time.

Thank you for such a lovely chinwag once again. I, too, am a huge fan of Ellie’s yarn. She really does do a magnificent job of dying her yarn. The yellow shawl will be beautiful. Well done to your daughter with the making of the macaron. Her friends will really enjoy the ones she makes for them. Thank also for the, always lovely week and end films. Until the next time. Hello penny, thoroughly enjoyed this video, yes i agree Pete is definitely a polar bear, love all the knitting you do, so clever, the place you stayed in overnight, looks so nice, i just love seeing your little tommy, such a funny thing, seeing him put the clothes in and out of the washing machine, you could see his mind working, what to do now, i love watching little ones doing that, like he has seen grown ups do. I think you could be a sparrow or a Robyn, you did tell us you were only 5foot something, and they are quick and curious little creatures.i have been painting wooden trays and boxes, with Annie Sloan paint and decorating with transfers and moulds made with clay, i like that because its quicker than watercolour painting and i get a quick result as well. I also love stamperia papers they are such great colours and design,i have used them in journals i have made, glad to hear about the hearing aids, something that my husband and i need too,you have convinced me to go ahead and get them for sure,my sincere wishes for you and Pete, keep well, pamela hall

You could see his mind working, you're right! What you're making sounds wonderful. I'd love to see the finished article. Go for the aids, if they are a good fit and adjusted well for you they are brilliant. At least have a test, one step at a time. xx

What a good idea to collect some lovely supplies for winter projects. I don’t cope particularly well with the short dark days of winter, so I might have to borrow your idea. I have purchased the Mouche and Friends book, and have also admired Helen’s work. I think that I am going to start with Billie the raccoon. Thank you so much for your podcasts, they are always so enjoyable.

Hi Pene, I love your idea of squirreling away lots of little crafting treats for the Autumn and Winter - I always feel a bit sad when the nights start to draw in - I love it being light until late in the evenings in the summer. Phil and I will be extending the lighter evenings by going further north for our next campervan adventure! (It's funny, I always think of them as adventures!) I am delighted that you have bought Cinthia's beautiful book - that's definitely something to look forward to in the coming months! As usual, there was so much for to enjoy in this episode - and I loved both films very much. Thank you! xx

Thanks Helen, Of course I had a look through the book tonight and saw that the polar bear is actually Mouche himself! I have some wool in stash so when those dark nights come it will be lovely to knit him. Your campervan trips are definitely adventures! You must get such fun planning, going, and then making your memories for all of us to see. See you in the morning!!

That was wonderful! Almost an hour of interesting chat as I stitch away and relax before bedtime. The shawl is so very pretty, the chat about hearing happens in our home on a daily basis, Tommy is so cute and entertaining, and we even got to meet the new homeowners! You helped me pass this special evening before celebrating the wedding of my granddaughter. Family love shines through your episodes so brightly and makes us appreciate our own precious moments a bit more. You know, now, how infectious your enthusiasm for crafting is as you see your family wanting to give it a hand. Thanks for all of it.

Ellie's yarn is gorgeous isn't it. I really want to do the Silver River shawl which I've started, but I can't get my head around the pattern for the short rows. I haven't done short rows before. I've given it a break for the minute and will go back to it when maybe my brain is working better!! Yours look gorgeous. Thank you for the inspiration. So good to spend time with you.

G’day Penny, loved your episode as always, particularly resonated with me ‘patience’ 😊 I’ve been patiently waiting, (well to be truthful trying) 😂 I’ve been yearning to spend time crafting/ knitting with my daughter Kylie-Marie who resides on little farm with her family high up on top of a mountain on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland 2 hrs north east of Brisbane. Even a couple of mornings crafting I thought would be great. I live in South Australia 1600 klms away and last saw them 1 year ago but I’m flying up next Monday and I’m so excited of course. To my surprise my daughter phoned and said “Mum I’m picking you up from Brisbane airport and I’ve got couple days off work, we are spending them with Ashleigh Jewel (her daughter, my young adult grandaughter she’s recently graduated double degree midwife & registered nurse) and Ashleigh has 2 days off work not rostered on and we 3 are going to spend 2 days crafting. Ashleigh Jewel is a keen, very good crocheter, likes to sew, my daughter is a learner knitter and sews. So my patience has paid off, feeling blessed that my daughter & grandaughter have organised this special time together. Bags not packed yet Pt, minimal clothes, heaps of yarn surprises all packaged for them to enjoy, have a couple knitting WIPS for me. That time of the year it’s starting to come into spring weather Qld Australia 26 degree days and sunshine I’ll be leaving South Oz cold 14 degree days for a few weeks 🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀 I’m going to show them some of your lovely podcasts Penny, while we craft along, they’ll love it 🍀🍀🍀🇦🇺
