Episode 95 - At last, time for a chat and I'm trying 'Quilt As You Go.'

Hullo, my name is Pene, short for Penelope and I live in the South East corner of England with my husband Pete. I love nature, to craft, and chatting. It's been three weeks since I last saw you (I mention it more than once - it seems a lot longer!) and they've been busy weeks. At last a time to sit down and have a chat with you.

It was so good to see your face pop up on my you tube page. I was so sorry that Pete has been so miserable, and glad to hear he is recovering. He might NOT want to hear that I began laughing as soon as you mentioned the brown bits of carpet pad. Poor man. Anyway, I would love a tour of your space and a little lesson on your quilt-as-you-go method. It looks like a beautiful way to spend a cozy winter evening. My first successful knit project was completed during your busy time away. It is very basic and rustic, but a good start, finally. Thanks for all the inspiration.

Pete said that's exactly what his family said too! It did set my nerves on edge a bit arriving in A and E and seeing a sea of people! He is feeling stronger today but a bit too cold for there and back at the moment. See you soon. xx

Hi Carol, Well I do show you in the next episode, no. 96. ( Btw episode 101 is my last episode). See what you think of that. It's done in small pieces with Daisy and Grace templates. I haven't done a big quilt in the quilt as you go way without templates if you get my meaning. I'm going to make a table covering with the ones I have made so far. (I show you in episode 101) I think in one episode I did show at the end quilting by hand. Let me know what you prefer, by hand or machine. See what you think of episode 96. @@penelopeschinwag I much prefer hand sewing to machine because I find it very relaxing, I’m in no rush and it’s nice to stop and go when I want to rather than having to get out my machine etc. I will watch episode 96 next, I almost don’t want to watch all of your episodes because I don’t want them to end. Good morning, Pene. So lovely to see you. I'm so sorry to hear that, Pete has been poorly. Glad that he's improving. The last three 3weeks have have gone in a blur for us. We had been in the middle of redecorating our lounge and dining room when Andy's dad was taken to hospital. All that got abandoned with what happened. This last week has been spent getting straight before our new sofas arrive. Alongside all the paperwork that needs dealing with and looking after mum in law. Understandably, my crafting has taken a back seat. I've not been able to settle on anything in the downtime I've had. Frogged the socks that I was making during our hospital vigil. Hopefully, now as we settle into a new normal, things will improve. Thanfull of our grandchildren who've kept us smiling. Look forward to seeing you soon. Xx

Thanks so much Ronna, much appreciated. Pete has now been in hospital a month. It started with sepsis and progressed. Things are looking brighter now but there is a long road for recovery. You have been busy, my goodness. Pete must have been so uncomfortable waiting in emerg. It’s like that here, waiting rooms so full you wonder if you’ll ever see a doctor. But when you do the care is very good. I was glad to hear that even in stressful or worrying times you can have a laugh. That really lightens your spirit. Your room must feel so fresh and organized now, a lovely sanctuary for you. The finished shawl is so pretty. I’d be interested in seeing how you make your quilt as you go, it looks a little like English paper piecing. I’d admire your spirit, do take time to care for yourself too.

Poor Pete and you. A very worrying time and having work done on the house at the same time! No wonder you haven't had time to film. I use my phone now too. I record with the side that only has a camera not a screen because then I know exactly where to look. I'd love a tour of where you store all your craft supplies and your capsule wardrobe. I'm having a no craft supplies buying 2024 to reduce my stash and get me making things I've already purchased. It would be great if you could show how to quilt as you go. It looks a bit like EPP. Your stitching is very neat. In the winter it's nice to have projects you can do whilst sitting in an armchair. Look afer yourself and Pete. Xxx

Thanks so much Anita, Unfortunately not, Pete has been in hospital for a month now which is why I've been quiet. Visiting is from 7am till 8pm so I have been there all day everyday. However, things have turned for the better now and we are hoping he will be well soon. He will have to go for rehabilitation to help him get moving. We don't know how long that will take. Hi Pene! Oh dear, the sea comes up so high! I really love taking a drive (with a stroll) along the ocean after a storm. Breathtaking. Your knitting and quilting are beautiful. Thanks Helen, After a few false starts I think today Pete may have turned the corner. I do feel so energised by my clearing. A lot has landed in the conservatory which is a bit too cold at the moment so that's to be tackled this week all being well. I do hope to show you my quilt as you go tips. Hubby had leg scan with his falling for last year and has a blockage in artery but fell last night hit radiatior and took me two hours to get him up then this morning I went downstairs to find a lake of water in kitchen he must have bent the pipe Wish he could just get leg fixed waiting to hear from hosp been off work since feb but his job secure he’s a driver with council but pay has now run out so to apply for benefit not easy am nearly seventy too old to go back to work Hope Pete s on mend give him a Scottish cuddle from me xx

Hi Penny. In the new year I want to knit either (or both!) Silver River or Sunset Skies. The yarn for the Silver River which you showed in the golden yellow & lovely contrast was Ellie’s mix of baby alpaca & silk. Wondering if it’s difficult to knit with. I’m used to working with slippery 100% silk but not the alpaca. I’m wondering if the stitches aren’t as easily defined when on the needles & actually working a stitch. Did you find any difficulty?
