The age old rivalry between the brittany and the dopey dates back millennia. Before dopey was born to this world brittany heard a voice from the lord above that in her lifetime a fierce enemy would emerge under her very own roof. What the two of them don’t know is that they were foes in their past lives as well. In dopeys previous lifetime he was a fisherman named Adam. He received the nickname “dopey” by his mother because in every area of his life he just “couldn’t get it right”. Brittany was a aristocrat who would walk past dopeys dock on her way home from tea with the other noblewoman. He loved her from afar until one day he asked if she would join him on his next fishing excursion. After minutes of her declining and his repeated begging brittany looked him in the eye and said quote “I just don’t fuck with you like that”. This lit a fire in the young fisherman’s heart. A a feverish rage would plague him from that day forth until he decided he needed revenge not only on the noblewoman, but every brittany in the world. Over time he fashioned an armada and set out on his journey to destroy the “brittany empire” as he called it. but as long as he searched, he could never again find brittany the noblewoman and furthermore never quench his thirst for revenge. Dopeys sinful ways angered the lord above, so the lord cursed him to be a cat in his next life who still can’t get anything right. But that’s not all. He would be cursed to live under the same roof of his beloved as brittany’s cousinuncle Sharea Shower’s pet cat. In the sacred texts it is prophesied there will be a battle called the Battle of B and D which many believe to be brittany and dopeys final fate. Only one can survive.

also i feel like americans can't quite appreciate just how INGRAINED the british youtubers were in our culture like it's actually crazy to look back on! everyone you meet who grew up online will most likely have a story about them or memories of that time. all of my friends probably met one of them at some point. it's to the extent where it's like a known fact that of you live in brighton you will eventually see zoe or alfie, they truly are household names - especially since joe was on strictly come dancing.which is wild because i have a distinct memory of watching his first ever video the day it was released, it was like a historical event. and EVERY SINGLE charity ship (thrift store) has a british youtubers book in it at all times, like i would bet all of the ones in my town have one of zoellas books.

In 2018 when school shootings were happening like every other day our school went on lockdown and for 20 minutes everyone thought there was a shooting cause nobody elaborated but the teachers thought so too. We found out later some dude was on campus with a gun but never shot anyone, but it’s really messed up a lot of kids

Dude I was in the TRENCHES of the dan & phil fandom during their peak I would come home from school and like immediately get on tumblr to argue with people older than me about the ethics of shipping real people and of pressuring people to come out and that shit honestly needs to be fucking STUDIED. I was a 13 y/o closeted queer kid myself and having to interact with sometimes fully grown adults who firmly believed they were personally entitled to seeing two random British men kiss each other was actually indescribably psychologically damaging good LORD

I remember a post that got stupidly popular in the phandom in like 2014 that was a bunch of different screenshots of Phil’s bedroom from videos dating all the way back to 2009 and the OP had circled in red things like, creases in Phil’s bedsheets that might suggest two people slept on them or two glasses being on his nightstand or a shirt that looked like one of Dan’s on the floor in the background. Like it was GENUINELY terrifying, psychopathic, and obsessive invasions of privacy and it was even fucking crazier because a good 75% of the people you would talk to would just be like “no there’s nothing wrong with that”

I was SO addicted to all the British KZbinrs in my late teens/early 20s and knew everything about them and watched all their bonus channels too. The intense Dan and Phil shipping never sat well with me. (Started watching back in 2012.) The fans were so intense and invasive and it was almost embarrassing to be a part of the Phandom because of it. They’re the only ones from that era I still watch and it’s awful how long it’s taken for them to be comfortable making regular content and being in the occasional video together again. Side note- I’m seeing Dan’s show on Sunday and my teenage self would be absolutely losing her mind.

I didn’t watch the “Brit crew” but Stampylongnose has so much nostalgia for me, I watched him in middle school and I loved his videos. I also watched Dan and Phil, and DanTDM. I still listen to Dodie, her music is great

Not gonna lie, I used to LOVE Dan and Phil. Like… obsessed to the point where I bought their book and saw them live. But I was one of the few that loved them but didn’t ship them romantically. I more so wished I had friends like them at the time … lol. Honestly, a piece of me will always love them. Such a fun time in my life.

Being a tory is being conservative in the US. The Labour party is the prominent left-leaning UK political party. Being a "Republican" in the UK is being opposed to continuing the monarchy. I guess you could say The Labour Party is equivalent to the Democrats in the sense that they are both considered "Left" but Labour is arguably, noticeably more left than the Dems

omg my sister and i went to Playlist live in 2014 and stayed at the hotel all the youtubers were staying at and we went a day early and went to the pool and immediately saw Alfie Deyes and Joe Sugg in the pool so we quite literally swam over to them and asked for pictures IN THE POOL, and i still have the pictures 😂😂😂 turns out Zoe Sugg was filming the entire interaction from her hotel and put it in a vlog telling us taking phones into a pool is not smart. i never thought i’d have a reason to tell that story but thank you for allowing me the chance 😅

Oof the line from Sarah at approx 26mins in “you start off with an advantage in that people already see you as a person… some of us are still trying to get to the Being Seen As A Person level” OUCH IT HIT ME IN THE FEELS NB I know I’m white, cishet and not visibly disfigured in any way….but I’m a woman, and I’m disabled. That is sadly still enough to qualify me as an object of resentment/pity 😬

tyler oakleys book is about binge eating and i HIGHLY recommend it. I think i read it three times my freshman year in college and it was so incredibly FUNNY. but also had some real conversations about his binge eating disorder. I have no idea about the others books, but I dont think Tylers was a cash grab. It is still top ten favorite books til this day.

PLS do an ep featuring Derren Brown, he did documentaries where he hypnotised people to (fake) kill someone, that they’d died or that they were in a zombie apocalypse. blew my mind when i was like 10 ! also this era was iconic and its crazy to me that u guys experienced it like us brits did lmao. did you guys also follow the british “facebook famous” era ??

Zoella and Alfie were actually hiding the fact they were dating for a minute and making posts saying they were just friends, UNTIL Zoella’s laptop background of her and Alfie kissing was accidentally shown in the background of somebody’s vlog

I’m from South Africa and in 2016 I think a couple of the the British YT came down with Casper. I was at a club and joe Sugg with the crew was there. I don’t know how but I started like talking to him but for some reason I thought it would be good to do it with an American accent. I’m fully South African. I think that went well cause I was never questioned. Can’t say I remember the conversation all that well 😅

the hawaii incident lasted for much longer than 10 minutes, it was 48. and i remember that number exactly bc i had a friend who was living in hawaii at the time and was more or less live tweeting their death as they thought they were genuinely going to die. just having a total mental breakdown as their family was trying to scramble and to this day they have horrible ptsd that i can't even begin to understand myself

im not finished the podcast yet BUT i found there were two/three brit crews, 1: (Zoella, Joe, Alfie, Caspar, Tyler, Marcus, Tanya, Jim, Louise) 2: (Dodie, Hazel, Jack, Dean, Chris, PJ, Bertie, Dan, Phil, Charlie) ofc there was overlap but i distinctly remember #1 being 2012-2015 and #2 being 2014-2018. there were also floaters like Troye, Grace, Mamrie, Cat, Carrie who never really belonged to either group? crew 2 definitely now have larger lives outside of youtube in terms of film, music, comedy etc.. i personally was more of a crew 2 just because they felt more grown up and artsy but i actually would not be the person i am today without any of them :( like i saw Dan and Phil live on tour with their microwave show thingy, saw dodie live with orla , and regularly try to go to Buffer Festival in Toronto (met dodie and charlie there too! so so nice)

We went down to Summer In The City the year after they moved it from Ally Pally to The ExCel, we were 15 or 16 I think and you had to apply for meet and greets and the names got drawn at random I assume due to time constraints. We ended up only wanting to meet Dan and Phil as we weren't really too bothered about anyone else and didn't get drawn. Everyone who didn't get our names drawn had our own meetup on the other end of the hall called Sadness In The City.

I never really got into Zoella, Alfie or that lot (at the time they reminded me of ‘popular girls/boys’ from my school 😅 and i just got a big ick from that group of brit youtubers - like all the folks involved in the Hello World convention) but I loved the gang of like charlieissocoollike, dodie, jack & dean, daniel j layton, hazel hayes etc etc and i’m still a huge fan of Dan & Phil (who i think have really grown with their audience). Not to mention people like TomSka who’s content (on his main and second channel) still continues to be great. I went to SITC back in 2016 and it was pretty fun meeting youtubers (although if u had m&gs you did have to like either miss or run to a panel happening at the same time). they were all lovely and complimentary towards my art i had done for them 🥰 i kinda wish i wasn’t so awkward but i’m still glad I got to meet them in that time in my life!
