Knee Brace Recommendation: amzn.to/37iBzr5
ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) injuries are all too often sent for surgery when most have a really good chance of healing 100% naturally.
They can even get back to being active with sports and running if they choose!
In this video, we cover 3 things to check on your knee for an ACL tear, then we explain all the different types of ACL tears and how to begin to treat an ACL injury naturally.
A scary statistic you need to be aware of if you’re planning to get an MRI (or if you already have), is that one study reported over 40% of ACL tears found on an MRI can be wrong!
That means the MRI showed a torn ACL but when the surgeon went in to repair it, there was no tear. It might have healed or it might have never been there...either way the surgery was not needed in those poor patients.
There are endless ACL rehab exercises out there and nothing special about a single one that will help you most. What is most important is getting the right kind of stability so that your ACL can heal.
That’s why we recommend getting a hard hinged knee brace on as soon as possible so that you can give your ACL some relief.

You just described my pain to the tee.Hurt knee 8 years ago had surgery Dr said I had torn cartilage and that I would probably have to have knee replacement but I refused .About 3 weeks ago of writing this the pain swelling and popping of knee started to lessen with each day .I researched the area of pain and symptoms that I’ve been having.Your website popped up and let me say : You nailed it!Your description of an injured mcl is spot on to what I’ve been experiencing since 2015.Now I know I just wish I would have researched this before .

My husband was clipped on December 25 by a wild snowboarder while skiing. He could barely walk for months with the swelling but now there is less clicking/popping and now just more achy from time to time. Walking for extended periods was hard. I’ve given him glut strengthening exercises and gentle shallow squats. He had a McDavid hinged knee brace in the early months but stopped wearing after a few months as he started feeling much better. He is much better but his MRI at the end of May was read as a completely torn ACL and both meniscal torn and MCL partial tear. But I was the only one as a chiro who did the basic orthopedic tests and the anterior drawer test was NOT positive. However, medial gapping test was hugely unstable. So I was stunned when the results in MRI complete ACL tear were read. Up to 40% are read wrong? I think it is MCL because the goalie squat was painful for him but is not anymore. So are you saying he should wear this other brace you recommend? Or just continue with the McDavid brace? All the time? He is much better as the knee only aches from time to time. I’ve been advising him to fix the muscle imbalance and strengthen the gluts. Standing in sand on the beach makes him feel unstable. They recommended orthopedic consult for ACL reconstruction and a custom ACL brace but so far two Orthopedics have turned him down. Should we just get this brace to recommend at this point? How long should he wear it for? I talked to him about doing your online knee rehab plan since it would clearly give him a guided program to help him fix his muscle imbalance. He has a history of loving biking and leg press and always had strong quads. That’s why he likely injured a meniscus many years ago. Sadly this was a freak injury on the ski hill.

Im a full time licensed plumber and about 3 years ago i took out my ACL and meniscus this devistated my career but i never gotten the surgery, i still want the surgery but i cant afford it, so im gonna comment what alot of people want to know that the doctors wont tell you, yes after a few months of rehab you will be able to function, but you need to excercise daily or it will buckle on you when you least expect it, its honestly just basic safety stuff that you need to watch out for, ASK for help if you need it, and dont try to be a one man army it wont benefit you at all, but you should be more than capable to do your trades job after 3 months just take your time with it and use your head more than your muscles

Hello Dr. I sustained an injury from jumping off the top of a car during an accident three years ago. Initially, I visited a hospital where they diagnosed me with a torn ACL and recomended surgery which i didnt take. Despite this, I could bend my knee fully backward without pain, but I couldn't fully stretch it as before. Later, i visited another hospital for a second opion and noted that my walking pattern was almost normal despite the injury, which led them to believe that my ACL was not torn based on the mri result of the previous hospital. They advised me to undergo physiotherapy exercises. This incident happened about three years ago. Since then, I’ve done some light exercises and have been able to run and perform push exercises, but I still can't fully stretch my leg. Last week, I collided with another player while playing football, and it was quite painful. After undergoing an MRI, the hospital confirmed my ACL is torn and suggested surgery. Currently, I can walk without limping as a week has passed since the incident. I'm concerned about making the wrong decision regarding surgery. I am not a professional football player; I play for fun. I am currently in a foreign country with better medical facilities. Today, I came across your video, and I am considering not having surgery based on your advice. Could you please provide your guidance on this matter? Thank you

How severe is my injury? and also trying to get a knee brace for myself after seeing this video. Once again thanks for the Information and support 🙂

I fell out of a trampoline at defy 10 feet up in the air . I looked down and the trampoline was gone and I stopped my fall with my right leg. My leg completely came out of my knee. I was lucky when I wiggled my leg for it to go Back in place. I was in horrible pain. My 2 year-old asked me if I was OK. Never have I heard her ask me that. My heart was broken. My first thought was how am I going to feed her, how am I going to go grocery shopping ,cook , wipe her butt etc.. my life is over. . Anyways, so finally, the pain was much better so I figured I’d get up and walk. Unfortunately my leg completely gave out and I fell to the ground. Instantly I knew my life has completely changed forever. I’m waiting to see my Orthopedic in a few days. In the meantime, I want to see my options. I really enjoyed this video , I very much appreciate you taking the time to make this . According to the ER, they think that my ACL and my PCL is gone. I don’t have any pain with my leg gives out but I feel the bones hitting each other and that feels crazy and I just feel like someone kicked me in the knee but the pain goes away. My foot also turns blue when I am on my crutches, so I remain with my leg up on my wheelchair. Would there be a chance for me to give this a try you think? I cannot put my foot down on the floor or else my leg will give out and he goes sideways not front ways..

Thank you. I'm currently at the point you described at the end of the video, where im rapidly improving, however i feel i should truly exercise my knee as much as possible. I had a ACL surgery 5 years ago, but i have likely injured a ligament in my knee recently. I really dont want to waste another year doing rehab, so this video was truly helpful, now i have a new insight! One question tough, would you recomm3nt wearing atleast a lighter brace when exercising my legs, for exampling when using a rowing machine? I do not feel much discomfort when doing this exercise without it, but feels a lot safer with it.

Appreciate this informative vid, thanks for your time and sharing your expertise 👍🏽 I have a recent full ACL tear possible meniscus damage as well. This sounds great at least worth a try and the orthopedists I spoke with did advocate at least for a middle ager a wait and see approach as you mentioned, at least 2 months (which thanks to your vid is likely not enough time to know if it will heal on its own) then consider surgical reconstruction with hamstring tendon. However my concern, there was a study done by HSS in NY, that showed those who did not get ACL reconstructive surgery were much more likely to suffer from osteoarthritis 7 years after injury than those that got the surgery. Is this something you have seen at your practice or are aware of?

Hey cardo, sorry to hear that you've got an ACL tear :-( Yes, we've heard about that study. There are more like it. We have to question what kind of health and strength the people from the study had. We don't know what they did for all those years leading up to getting knee arthritis. The assumption we work under is that they kept doing exercise or activity that fed into a muscle imbalance. Muscle imbalances around the knee (over-dominant quads and under-dominant glutes) is what sets up many chronic knee problems, including knee arthritis. That coupled with the loss of stability from the torn ACL can definitely expedite knee arthritis. But what if you correct your muscle imbalance and maintain it? That has not been studied. In fact muscle imbalances have not been studied. We see people here in the clinic do very well after an ACL tear. It's up to them to keep up their strength for the long term.

Thanks for this video! I am in category 3 and torn my front ligament completely, along with both meniscus getting injured and a bone bruise condition in my thigh bone. I started early rehabilitation training in form of weight lifting etc. with great success and I can run and lift fairly in comparison of before my injury, even playing some soccer 4 times after the injury. My biggest issue is that my knee has been sliding out of position about 12 times in 3 months. But it does not happen while I am doing something that requires more force like training and so forth, but when taking a quick step in the opposite direction boom there we have it. So I find it difficult to make a decision about wether surgery or no surgery is right. My concern with no surgery is that my knee might get new injury or get worn out by continues slides of the bones. But I have not been wearing any form of knee support as of so far. I will try that and give my knee more time to recover before I make a decision. Thank you for making me realize this just now. 🎉

Ive had acl reconstruction on both knees, most recently 2 months ago with a partial meniscectomy. Its not easy and the recovery takes time and dedication. Based on your comment if you're knee is buckling regularly you are risking further damage to the other ligaments and meniscus. Living with a torn acl requires a lifestyle change for most people, soccer and other pivoting activities are risking more serious damage. Further damage can cause osteoarthritis down the road and result in a knee replacement. I opted to have surgery both times because I do not plan on living my life in a straight line. Take some time for your decision but please be careful in the meantime.

There’s still a possibility your acl is torn even if your leg is improving (something else could’ve caused that pop though) because my acl was fully torn for 10 months and I didn’t notice because after the incident that tore it (I didn’t know it was torn at the time) my leg improved back to the point where I could run full speed, so I’d get an mri if I were you im saying this so incase it’s torn you can catch it early

I broke my left ankle a week before Memorial Day 2021. A week later, I tore my right knee's medial meniscus due to falling while on crutches. Fast forward several months of rehabbing the knee on my own at home and having the full range of motion, but not wearing a brace all the time. It was doing ok, but it felt pretty tight and swollen most of the time. Thanksgiving came around, I stepped off a footstool reaching for a dish on a high shelf. Came down on the right leg and felt searing pain. I could barely hobble to a chair. My knee was very unstable. I finally got in to work with a PT in March of this year and worked on the rehab exercises, purchased the ShockDoctor brace you link to - it is part of my daily clothing now. I don't go out without a decent brace now. I also got their highest-end brace because my goal is to go backpacking again with moderate miles and a fully loaded pack. Great info. Thankyou for the video!

Thanks for the information, this made me understand alot of things. I had a knee injury 3 weeks ago while playing football and the MRI is saying torn ACL, I was able to walk right away, I got swelling the next day but the situation is getting better since and I don’t feel pain, I did the test and I don’t feel pain! So I assume its minor or partial or stretched I’m not sure. The only this is I can’t fully engage my quads when my leg is straight compared to my non-injured leg! And I feel this is weird and I saw that I have to exercise my quads as a way of recovery. I don’t feel pain so hopefully I’m recovering, I’ll get the brace and gradually exercise all my muscles around the knee as I heard this is the advice! Please let me know if there is anything else I can do.

Good video, gives me hope to heal my ACL. I did a complete ACL tear playing soccer 7 weeks ago when I hyperextended my knee. I found after 3 weeks it felt pretty good, so I played again and did a minor hyperextension. Took a week off and bought a brace like you have there and played 4 games since. Knee feels stable in brace. Did an online session with Jun Matsumoto today, he has had 100% success with healing ACL tears (16/16) with his exercises. The focus is bringing your heal to your hip to shorten the length of the ACL so it can reattach. He wants me to quit soccer for 6 months, tough ask. I will do the exercises and see how I go. I don't see the benefit of the knee brace when not playing sport as my knee is very stable.

How, exactly, does an acl tear heal over time without surgery? Do the torn parts grow back together somehow? Does new new ligament grow? And exactly how does exercise help with that process? Did it tear because muscles were weak? Does strengthening muscles hold the knee in place so the ligament can grow back? Is there scar tissue? Does that make the healed ligament weak and vulnerable to a tear in the future? Sorry for so many questions. All I see is videos on how tears happen and how to do rehab.

And then i think its notnhealing well, so i tried to go to the nearest orthopedics then the ortho said that i should have xray and mri, but then i cant afford to pay for an mri, waited and looking for a public hospital that can do my mri. Story short, i got my mri this july and the result shows the following: 1. High-grade anterior cruciate ligament tear. 2. Complex horizontal and radial tear involving the inferior margin of the posterior horn and root of the medial meniscus. 3. Mild joint effusion with synovitis. 4. Mild marrow edema in the tibial plateau. With this the ortho told me to just apply for a rehabilitation for the strengthening and after that, i told my therapist that i want to play again and he said that i should have my acl to be operated to have my life back. So as i watch your video, and read a comment i want to ask for a opinion to what should i do for my knee. Should i operate or opted for the natural healing method?
