Epson Inkjet Firmware Update - 3rd Party Cartridge Not Recognized (2 of 2)

Workaround the new Epson Firmware Update so your ink cartridge will work
Basically, look for a small silver strip on the corner or edge of the chip. Just a little silver/grey rectangle. It's not always in the same place. The brand I use has it in the top right corner. Make sure to scrape it away thoroughly in the middle or it won't work (the first time I tried I didn't scrape away enough and it failed, then I scratched more off and that did the trick.)

This worked Thank You so much Scott Charles! Anyone doing this, it takes time so if you install and it doesn't work, that means you need to use your knife and keep scratching until the board turns a little white. That way, you know you are doing it correctly! I also wiped my knife with a napkin periodically. Good luck!

Dude this totally worked for my Epson XP-7100! After months of frustration, I did it and it worked first try! I used an air spray can to get rid of any debris before installing. Thank you for these videos

Epson did a firmware update and then I got the error message saying ink was empty. After calling Epson and going to customer complaints, they admitted that the "security" update also checks to see if you are using 3rd party ink. He said to but Epson ink ( twice the price)and it will work. I told them that they have no right to dictate what ink I put in. It is my printer and up to me. I understand that the warranty will be void and I take that chance. It is like buying a Ford truck and they do a software update which means it will not start unless you but the most expensive gas from a Ford dealer. I do not know how this is even legal. His reply is that the manual says to only use Epson ink.

It's a black line drawn by magic marker. Take acetone and qtip. My ink is 100% EPSON INK BUT THEY COVERED IT UP WITH LINE & STICKERS
