This is a great printer! I normally use a laser printer because I hate waiting. But I actually paid $28 (including tax) for this item from Target. My laser printer didn't have a scanner or fax capabilities, so I bought this for $28 and got rid of my fax and my scanner (I still have my laser printer). Huge space saver!! Takes a bit to setup but overall its a great printer!

I disagree about OEM inks, I use generic all the time and I have had no problem. Generic inks cost around $20 for the set of cartridges and as I said, I have had no problems whatsoever using them. The manufacturers of course want you to use their inks because they make more profit from the inks than the printer but it is just brain washing customers to believe you have to use OEM inks and this is rubbish as the inks are all manufactured to a world wide standard and probably come out of the same factory.

Epson been using the same Print and scan mechanism for at least a decade. This is basically an Expression series printer with a fax modem.

I've had trouble getting it to copy. All the copy button does is pull up a menu that just loops. The manual says hit the return key when done with the menu settings and hit either start button. Nothing. I think I've gotten it to work once or twice.

The copy and scan functions generally work when there's ink in the printer.

It is brand new and plenty of ink. Scouring the internet I found that you ahem select border instead of the default borderless for anything aper form photos then it works. Why this si not in the manual is beyond me though.

I'm not trying to justify the incredibly high prices for replacement ink, but I do think this point is being overstated here. Yes, to buy the b&w and color replacement cartridges will cost around 65 to 70% of the price of the entire printer with cartridges, but I think most people know that the cartridges that ship with printers are typically not full. Secondly, if one were to literally buy a new printer every time the ink needed to be replaced that would mean spending an extra 30 to 35% versus replacing the ink -- and perhaps more since presumably one might need to replace either b&w or color but not both at the same time. I guess I wanted to add this comment because I think it would, indeed, be reckless of anyone to adopt a model of throwing away a printer instead of buying new ink simply because the cost differential isn't great. Other than that, I liked your review. It was more informative than many product reviews I've seen on KZbin, many of which actually just seem like affiliate ads.

Brian McCutchan i contacted Epson directly, and in the end via direction from the customer services agent i had to do a factory reset, the printer is now function as it should with no problems....yet..!!!

+Amanda Smith Last night I carefully read the pdf manual on the printer, and apparently I wasn't loading the paper right, plus the error code was stuck. When I intentionally set it to a "wrong" paper type, and tried and failed, then set it back the correct paper type... it worked. Has worked the multiple times I tried last night. I've put new ink cartridges in my Epson WorkForce WF-2630 All-in-One Printer but my printed pages just show blurred lines. When I open the printer cover the area where the ink cartridges go do not move over so that I can take the cartridges out to investigate the printing problem or take the cartridges out and adjust/reinsert them. What could be causing this problem and how do I fix the printing problem? My printer is new. Thanks!

+J Anthony ok so for anyone else who comes across this comment and video. 1. go to the navigations screen, then to setup, then to maintenance and finally ink replacement and press the start button. Then flip the top of your printer open and the cartridge should be available to change.

B S. this is a great "wireless" printer, I just went to future shop and purchased the ink. $29 for all three colors and $12 for black..... I purchased this printer because of the fact the ink IS inexpensive. I priced out the ink first and purchased a printer which had the least expensive ink. I also love the wireless feature, I can use any netbook, laptop or desktop computer anywhere in my house..

Maybe you are using the Scanner-partition. To make copies you have to pull-up the upper part but not all the cover (if you pull up all the cover you find. Approximatively at 2 cm under the upper surface of the machine there's a demarcation line. If you find it you have to pull up the upper part and you will find the glass surface ready for the copies.

Windows 10 works like Mac. No software to install. Just connect the printer to your home WiFi, and the search for it on your computer. It will then just work. Including scanning via the "Windows Fax & Scan".

did you go through the maintenance/replace ink cartridge menu? If you don't, it will not recognize the ink. Setup--Maintenance--Replace Ink Cartridge(s)....then it will walk you through it. I had the same problem until I googled and got instructions. A pain in the ass, but that's what you have to do...

Why buy a printer from a manufacturer that deliberately & actively undermines your ability to use affordable ink? I have gotten good service from a couple WF-2540s, using refillable ink cartridges. I bought one of these today, and quickly discovered that Epson's ongoing war to protect their ink monopoly has successfully make aftermarket systems much more expensive. (It is no longer possible to make the chips on the ink cartridges resettable; even the aftermarket chips are single-use, so whenever you refill the cartridges, you have to throw away the chips and install new ones.)

The 2630 is 2 years old. When setting it up you have the option to not upgrade firmware. Choose this option as it is through firmware 'upgrades' they stop you using cheap ink alternatives.

Printer manufacturers have been making it harder and harder, over the years, for people to use less expensive alternatives to their own, overpriced ink refills. The oldest printers had no way to detect that you were refilling an ink cartridge, or using one made by a third party, rather than buying one from them. With the WF-2540, the manufacturer's cartridges come with chips that "expire" after a certain amount of use, no matter how much ink is left in the cartridge, which defeats refilling them. Third-party cartridge manufacturers responded by making an ink cartridge that comes with a chip that automatically resets when you refill it. With the WF-2630, they redesigned the chips so that the printer can tell when a chip has been reset. Third-party manufacturers responded by selling refillable cartridges, plus single-use chips, which you throw away and replace at every refill. You still save money on the ink, but now you have to buy a supply of these chips as well. That's why I keep going back to the WF-2540.
