We're living in a time where the guitarist of megadeth literally shares his exact tone settings to everybody. so nice
@slowtalker
@slowtalker 3 жыл бұрын
I don't know why nobody does that. If I were a member of a famous band, I would surely share my settings, show how to play specific riffs or even whole songs. It would only help me and my band. Now we have softwares to understand better each note, but when I was a beginner, I would give up trying to learn a song without available correct tabs.

Kiko, you seem to have a natural ability to teach people. You always have a positive, encouraging approach in your videos. Definitely different for a guy that plays in a metal band, especially for a guitarist that shreds like you do. I’ve always liked Dave’s musical prowess, and I think everyone’s lucky that he chose you to be on board.

The Neural guys are amazing people. While I'm long term using my Helix for stuff because it is integrated so well into my setup I had a lot of conversations with these guys during the process of the development of the Quad Cortex and specifically to try to make the eventual editor software more accessible for the blind. They gave it a shot and I think will keep trying at it off and on as it develops more. Great seeing you using a peace of gear like that on stage and giving these guys some very high profile love and exposure to new markets. Keep doing your thing brother

It makes me glad that I just got a multieffect pedal with amps and cabinets simulators and I thought of using the same old school concept of "having" one amp and cabinet, and just adding the different effects to the same one "amp and cab", and seeing Kiko, (one of childhood idols) doing it the same way. Obviously, I cannot compare myself to Kiko, but it makes me think I'm doing something right, if I'm doing the same thing he's doing.

I’m also wondering the same thing. I doubt they’re solid state since they’ll over power a 300 watt cab. My guess would be Mesa-Simul 2:Ninety or VHT/Fryette 2902. Just a guess. Hopefully someone chimes in that knows.
@07BSPtC
@07BSPtC 3 жыл бұрын
@@danrao3707 many people are using solid state amps simply for headroom. They aren’t cranking it and sending 700w to the cab. Remember. Fender needs 200w to simulate a 40w tube amp. Basically 4x as much power. 700w amps do 350 into an 8 ohm cab which is a bit less than 4x 100w.

@nicebluejay
@nicebluejay 3 жыл бұрын
actually it's all automated by time code he just said using a program called digital performer that is initiated at the start of each song. i presume the drummer uses a click track and all the patch changes occur at precisely the right time throughout any given song. i also assume that dave would have to have a similar type of setup. you can't have a bunch of dudes stomping pedals backstage the whole show, but that would be funny though seeing a few guys jumping around doing that.

I love the simplicity of this setup, but I have a question for anyone who can answer. From what I understand, to get smooth transitions from one preset to another you need to use the Scene mode and include all the devices in that scene. But it looks like Kiko has every sound set up as a separate preset. So, is the midi controlled switching as smooth as scene changes? Because otherwise I would expect a delay in fast switches between presets. I will appreciate any insight on this.

They just use the quad cortex for everything. One signal with cab sim goes to front of house and in ears and one signal without cab sim goes to the on stage cabs. The QC doesn’t provide power to cabs. He still has to use something to power the cabinets. That is the question…what power amp is being used on stage.

@IrLosin 3 жыл бұрын
I hadn't looked at it that way. I was more thinking of tone not of power. You are right. I would expect solid state amps then because they need less maintenance and weigh less. Any tone you want is already coming from the QC.

@@IrLosin here's the thing: I know pretty much about modeling. I have Axe-Fx III and I use powered FRFR cabs for my stage sound. so if Kiko has two 4x12s on stage they have to by powered by something. tube or solid state? which brand? those are my questions. Metallica does something similar. they all use the Axe-Fx but they like a 4x12 cab on stage. so they send a signal out of the Axe-Fx without a cab IR and they use the Matrix solid state amps to push those cabs.

What power amp are you using to drive the cabs on stage though? The quad doesn't have a power amp right? Maybe you said and I didn't see it. Thanks Kiko and guitar amp tech!!!!

I have the same question. I rewatched the video and there's no mention of which poweramp they're using to drive the cabinets.

The power amps would be fairly irrelevant because of the amp sim/IR/modeling approach of the quad cortex or whatever it’s called. Probably why they didn’t even mention them.

@@regortex3364 it matters for the cabinets they have on stage, hence the question. For the front of house, they'll use the IRs, of course

@@morphine0000 I doubt they run tube power amps anymore for the on stage cabs as they use IEMs, and those cabs are mainly for moving some air and feel. Just a guess on my part, I could be completely wrong of course.

@@regortex3364 if he's using a real cab on stage then no IR sim would be necessary. Just a power amp. You don't use IRs wjth a cab. The whole point if an IR is to totally replace a cab but give a cab sound going thru the PA. Now, if he's using a full range flat response cab, then he would need the IR sims. I'm betting he's using a real cab though with a power amp.
