Purchased the Bonavita coffee maker after seeing your last review. I really like it, but want to acknowledge one design flaw. After the coffee is brewed, you have to remove the section with the coffee grounds/filter and put it on a plate. There is no stopper under the grounds/filter, so it will leak for several minutes until the grounds are dry enough to go in the trash. Also, I still have to microwave the coffee for 20 seconds after brewing to get it hot enough to drink.
@GarryDeWitt4 жыл бұрын
Couple things, as I also own the Bonvaita (I got the 1901ts, slightly updated with 1.3l carafe and the brew basket attaches to the top rather than sits on the carafe). 1. the brew basket situation is one that needs addressing, I always toss my grounds immediately after finishing brewing but I've gotta keep them over the carafe while I do it because yes they do drip a little, annoying. 2. more importantly related to your comment about microwaving after brewing: I tested the brew temp in the carafe without preheating at 4 and 6 cups (the demarcated lines on the fill tank) respectively when I got it, and got readings between 179 and 182 Fahrenheit. Using ambient temperature water in the water reservoir (60F). If your numbers are off from this I'd either A: make sure you're brewing a minimum of 4 cups (I think they recommend this as the minimum because below this and the water doesn't get up to temperature enough during the brew process, resulting in underextracted and undertemp coffee), and if you are contact Bonavita and get some help. might also help to preheat the carafe with hot water from the tap (I wouldn't preheat the water in the tank much beyond 80 or so though)

I had a Keurig for a while just because of the ease of use but it didn't make very good coffee and I got tired of all the plastic. I purchased a Ninja, which I love. I can put the amount of water in to fill the cup I'm using. I can set it for "Bold" and "Small batch" and what I love is that I can turn the heating plate off when I've filled my cup. It makes really good coffee. Oddly the best coffee I've ever had was from a Black and Decker I got at London Drugs for $19.99 many years ago. It didn't last long but it made the best coffee I've ever had. Unfortunately, it was discontinued. Se la vie.

ATK, at 1:56, the host misrepresented herself. Would you please take another look at the machine? I’m not sure if she was reading from a script but she is incorrect. We have the same Mr. Coffee. If you have a chance to review the video, please pay close attention to the placement of the shower head when it was swung over the water reservoir. Look at the interior of the lid. Do you see that black protrusion on the interior of the lid? The function of that protuberance is to automatically swing the hot water dispenser directly over the center of the coffee ground receptacle/coffee filter should the operator forget. Please think about re-upload the video as you take a chance of your audience calling the validity of your videos into question. When I visited my friend’s home who has a ‘Mr Coffee’, I can still make a 1 cup of coffee perfect, but there’s a trick: Take the pot away from the machine. Brew the coffee, and time it for about 4 minutes. After the timer goes off, put the coffee pot in place; the coffee will quickly pour into the pot. A little bit of work, but it made a perfect cup every time. For convenience, I still prefer my moccamaster 1 cup brewer.

So I bought a Bonavita based on this review. My unit's showerhead would not uniformly spread the water over the grounds. I would recommend that you run water through and see if the showerhead does what it's supposed to do. It has 11 holes, including the central one. In my unit, only 3 of the front ones worked. In looking at some of the other reviews on Amazon of this unit, you can see similar complaints. There must be a design flaw. It's definitely something to keep track of, so buyer beware.

You don't have to push the brew arm back for the Mr. Coffee. If you forget, there's a little piece of plastic on the lid that moves the arm back over the basket automatically when you close the lid. Unless that piece is snapped off, it will never flow back into the tank. (I currently have that exact coffee maker) So there really is only one extra step. Move the arm back to put the basket in place. You can't forget to do that because you can't put the basket back if you do. It's not a deal breaking feature. I use 1.25 ounces (heaping 1/3rd of a cup) of coffee per full pot and it's plenty strong enough. I wouldn't go over 1.75 or you lose the lining of your stomach.

I have 2 to 3 cups in the morning to kick start my brain. I have been through a few machines, and coffee press's over the years. Buy good coffee and grind it yourself. I've tried using a French press because It gives me the most control over time and temperature. I find that water temperatures of 19O° brewed for 4 minutes produces bitter coffee. When I use the same ground coffee in a 15 year old inexpensive Cuisinart coffee maker, the result is amazing coffee. I measured the temperature of the water, in the Cuisinart, when it meets the grounds and found it to be 170°. I then tried reducing then water temp in my French press to 165° with no improvement. The easy solution would be to make coffee in my old Cuisinart. But that machine is in a vacation home 2 hours away. Lol. Thanks for the video.
@seikibrian86415 жыл бұрын
In a drip coffee maker the water is flowing through the grounds; in a French press the grounds are soaking in the water. So 4 minutes in one isn't the same as 4 minutes in the other. For a French press, try 190°F for 3 minutes.

I just bought a Cuisinart coffee maker from Costco for $59.99 and I am impressed after day 1. If it doesn't continue to make happy in the next 30 days, I will just take it back for a refund. If you are a Costco member, check it out at Costco.com. You have nothing to lose by trying it if you are unsure what you wanted to buy like I was. I wish you would do a reliability test. The top inexpensive coffee maker will only last six months plus or minus one month. They do have amazing customer service, I have had three different models, each was replaced at around the six to eight months mark because it stopped brewing and once it began to fail it was only a few more weeks before it would die completely. I did clean it, used filtered water, you name it - no matter what they will not make it to a year! DO NOT BUY THE Bonavita!

Sadly the technoform mocha master and the bonavita are not programmable. The breville is fully programmable, can you say how it did in your rankings? Did you test the breville coffee maker? I simply wanted a coffee pot that can be programmed to brew at a certain time, to me that's what programming means. But the breville is capable of customized Brew times and temperatures. So I'm curious if it can be set to mimic or be as good as the mocha master or the bonavita? Curious about your thoughts on this. Thank you as always atk! Been watching you since I was in diapers.

All the numbers and the tests are fine, but at the end of the day, this would have been more interesting and useful if you have shown us the tasters feedback during the blind taste test... for example, they might have all put the Bonavita on top, but we might have also learned that there's a marginal difference in taste if any compared to the two runner ups... some of us might be ok missing out on this marginal difference to get a coffee maker for $30-$50 range...

@@gidget8717 I know people that have Cuisine Art and they really like them. I've always been partial to the Bunn machine. They have a heated Reservoir and shower head that very quickly makes a pot of coffee. The water temperature is always perfect and the coffee is never brewed too long so you never have that acrid or acidic taste.👍 Very few parts. In fact you only have the basket and the carafe. Two switches one for the warmer and a master power switch they also called a vacation switch which turns off power to the water reservoir heater. That's it except an internal thermostat for each. I automatically RME when I hear "the experts suggest". Starbucks, the biggest in the country, makes a cup of burned mud. Just burn the hell out of the beans and the tea and I guess everyone comes running. At work we had a guy make "cowboy coffee", which means 10x too strong. At first it was a hit, everyone puffed up and said how "thats the strong stuff I like". I tasted it and spit it straight out, because it was absolute crap. As we all left the room there were half and 3/4 cups full of undrinkable cups of that stuff all over the place. The next day, I made 2 pots with 2 scoops each. No one bragged about how it grew hair on their chest but when we left, every drop was consumed and all the cups were empty. So forgive me for thinking this "expert suggested amount" might be bs. I dont even believe what people say in a group. If however large amounts of coffee is consumed, even if no one says a word, that is good coffee. I will take your advice on the quality of the coffee maker here but I'd bet that people alone at home will regulate down the amount of coffee suggested here. Freshly opened, ground just then, with your coffee maker, at realistic strength, will probably make a great cup.

I'm not sure who told them that Bonavita BV1900TS 8-Cup One-Touch Coffee Maker was $99 but it is not. Add a Benjamin to that MSRP, and hovers at $149 on Amazon.
