@bigdog04553 жыл бұрын
I love Clapton, but I agree , sort of , with you Mario. I was at the concert in the New Orleans superdome two decades ago also, when I saw and heard him play the same song. I have seen him perform this several times live even three decades ago. Back then It seemed cleaner and crisper than in this video, perhaps that was because it was recorded on a phone, but perhaps because he has added extra drummer and extra keyboard they all seem to be competing for a little space. the poor singers are barely able to get in and the bass guitar was a little too strong. , the song seems muddied up. a little like the Phil Spector wall of sound effect. Also I noticed in this recording, several times, EC kicking in some Prince like riffs and effects. That is new, and not unexpected, after all the man wants to grow and progress. In an interview Clapton was asked "How does it feel to be the best rock guitarist on the planet?" His response was! "I wouldn t know, you should ask Prince" !!!!!

I'd like to pop the genie bottle and toss myself back to 1979 ish... the town I lived in seemed to have a basement, backyard or in the deep woods of Tamaquas Park party just about every weekend. It just depended on whose parents were away for the house parties. No cell phones... no nuttin... yet somehow 30 to 60 peeps would be there. Eric Clapton, Lou Reed, George Thorogood, The Who, Frank Zappa, etc etc were always cranking. Man oh man oh mannnnnn.. the booze, cocaine, ludes (from some mom's medicine cabinet) just seemed perfectly normal.

I wish his shows lived up to his level of talent. Yeah I said it and I expect a ton of EC devotees to come at me, but every show of I’ve attended has been the same since the early 90’s maybe late 80’s. Start a song, each player gets a little solo, comes back to EC to close it. Usually the set list is virtually identical night after night. Maybe 1or 2 songs traded out. The faux humble attire, the sitting down portion with acoustic guitar, and the selection of tried and true top 40 hits, all combines to leave me waiting for some real creativity and pushing of musical boundaries which this man and his immense talents are capable of. Pls don’t get it twisted, I’ve been a fan for decades, 5 or 6 of them actually, and I honor his legendary skills. It just seems like he’s become a Clapton tribute band. Push it sometime Eric. Listen to live recordings when he was with the Dominoes, that’s the what this guy is capable of and probably more!!
