Look at Eric staring at JJ when he plays the opening solo! Every great guitarist loves to hear another great guitarist play. JJ Cale was an incredibly talented person and it shows. He obviously didn't like the spotlight but thank God other talented musicians loved his music. His guitar is silent now but his music lives on and has been covered by so many great artists. RIP JJ!

And look at those two great smile at each other at the end! I got to see JJ a few years before he passed on, and he was still a humble, self-effacing fellow, who just happened to be responsible for some of the greatest guitar music ever made. And he liked to see his (all-ages) audience dancin’, swayin’ and toe-tapping’. Yes, R.I.P. JJ.

How in the hell could anybody slam JJ, is beyond me. He was such an awesome song writer. And listen to his last laid back rolling style! He's a rich part of our musical heritage! He is a national treasure. JJ CALE will live on in our music heritage and history. God bless him.

Jolene Loveland, I dont know how anyone could slam JJ. My only guess is some do it to piss the rest of us off seeing how we so much admire JJ and his musical prowess. Some do it without even knowing the major contributions this man has given to the world. But we know...we know. R.I.P. JJ Cale.

When I was 15, staying at a bed & breakfast in Bristol, UK, there was a LP player in my room along with JJ Cale “5” LP among others. a revelation to me. When I was 18-19, around 1990, I learned there was a JJ Cale concert in Paris. I went. There was an opening act, a guy alone with his guitar. the audience was very warm with the guy. and it lasts, it lasts, I look at my watch. 1/2 h, 1h, 1h30… and then 1 plor 2 “encore”. I was quite surprised, but I had few concert experience. Then the guy ends up leaving the stage, the lights come on and people get up and leave the room. WTH?! I follow them. and near the exit I see some John Cale records with the photo of the guy who had just played. it was like a parallel universe experience. Nobody in my entourage was interested in the same music as me and there was no internet. it took me a few years to realize that I had seen John Cale from the velvet underground. and a decade later I learned that JJ Cale had taken that stage name precisely so as not to be confused with John Cale. but that was not enough for an ignorant young Frenchman!

It was in the seventies, probably 75 ish my buddy and i went to see JJ in Vancouver. Neither of us were all that familiar with his music but I was a blues fan so off we went. I have to say JJ was good but to us the star of the show was his opening act Leon Redbone. We thought he was amazing and we became lifelong fans. So years go by and I remain a blues fan and specifically an Eric Clapton fan and that leads me to this video of JJ and Eric. I was blown away by JJ's easy style to the blues and how it's just who he is. I'm so glad I rediscovered him after all these years...I just love it!

Fantastic footage. Thanks for posting it, Bill. I have most of JJ Cale's albums but regret never seeing JJ in concert. He was a legend and I am sure his music will live on for ever. JJ's wonderful laughter at 3.33 in this video sums up how he felt about his music. His laid back style always made it sound like it was no effort, but we all know he put everything into it. Rest In Peace, J.J.Cale. You will be missed.

JJ Cale was a master of underpinning and counterpoint and he brought that technique into his songs... his tempos were always just a hair off of standard and it gave his simple lyrics and melodies a signature sound that other artists could pair off of with ease. Travellin' Light will always be one of my favorites. He was a good man, an excellent guitarist and a great songwriter. Period.

What a fantastic musician was JJ. His music will and has stood the test if time. Such great words and melody and non of that screeching up and down scales burning up the fretboard. Eric Clapton looks on in awe, one of his musical ambitions was to make an album like JJ. How fantastic to play with someone you deeply admire. I feel sorry for the thumbs down brigade.

You are absolutely right, Jas Bataille. He was so laid back at that concert...... I'll never forget it. There weren't alot of people attending, so we had awesome floor space and everyone just sat down, and was memorised, by his music. He sat on a stool with his hat pulled low, covering alot of his face, and he just played all night for us. It was the most laid back concert, I've ever attended. That's when, I feel in love with his music. A legend he is. R.I.P. J.J.,. I hope you are singing with the angels.

I am lucky enough to have recognized how bad ass JJ Cale was very early on. 1973 to be exact. Summer on Memphis Tn. , let's see,, I would have been fixing to turn 17 yrs. old. To this day, vintage JJ sounds the same but I get way into the themes of those songs, look into JJ s face, you know he had no idea how good he was. Hell he just barely scraped by for years, like from 1972 to 1977. When Clapton picked up Cocaine, After Midnight and Crazy Mama EC slung out on the Slowhand LP. JJ told Christina ,, hey babe we can buy us a car!! JJ grew up with Leon Russell in Tulsa Ok.

J.J. shaped my appreciation of music. Timing, timing, timing; and songwriting, that comes from a true man. Later on in my life I went on to J.S. Bach, Maxim Vengerov, Isabelle Faust, Carolyn Sampson et al., but I always come back to J.J. Miss him.

You can't hardly....you just can't.......sweet geeetar tones and licks from two masters of the instrument. Swamp rock and blues intertwined...I could listen to this song 30 times in a row...in fact I might.

I have a brother in law that somehow missed rock and roll growing up in Minnesota (he's 71). From time to time I try to turn him on to the good stuff. When I decided to turn him on to J.J., this was the song I sent him. Now he's digging up everything he can find on the old master. If you googled the world 'cool', you ought to find a picture of Mr. Cale. RIP, J.J.

I bought "Naturally" back in '72 and wore the grooves right down... Love at first listen. He's smooth as a bottle of 16 year old Scotch, and one of my all time favs. The stats don't lie... 99.96% of listeners like JJ Cale, and that says it all.

@@johnnyozelius6852 JJ cale and Clapton were gr8 friends, Eric did a memorial for b.b. king and JJ and who knows who else... Clapton has so many lps out he is the best! And I love the original Skynard they were sooo good, I try never to compare musicians as most play other musicians songs because it means something to them....

Eric Clapton and JJ Cale are from an era of musicians/entertainers that had to have talent in order to make it in the business! There aren’t any greats being made today for tomorrow like these guys!

J.J. wrote this song, so who do the Skynards have to thank huh! J.J. Cale is/was a phenomenal musician back in late 60's & 70's, and still to this day. He is sorely missed in our music world. I was a J.J. Cale fan back when I was a crazy dope smokin hippie way back in them good ol' Woodstock days lol.... rock on J.J. wherever you are ...
