I’ve said it before, but Justin is one of the best presenters on KZbin. I love these videos.

These “Vs.” videos are the best! I’ve been way more familiar with Leo Fender stuff than Gibson, so the Gibson/Epiphone ones are particularly helpful for me. Thanks! I hope you keep producing videos like these!

Between 1991 and 2004, Gibson made the trapeze tailpiece ES-135 with 2 P-100 pickups and a Florentine cut-away. Between 2002-2013, Gibson made the ES-137 with 2 humbuckers, a stop tailpiece and and a Florentine cut-away. In 2003 when production of the ES-135 was ending, Gibson apparently had some extra necks stamped ES-135, and put them on ES-137 bodies, creating a stop tailpiece ES-135. I have one of these I bought in 2004 and love it except for it's weight (9+ lbs). One would think that this rare version would be worth something as a collectors item, but alas, they usually go for less than $2000 on Reverb.

Beatiful video, I loved it. Sad that there is no more big box hollow guitars available, I know probably is not a big sale guitar, not everybody plays jazz these days, but I always admired great jazz players using those guitars. My CS 335 is the guitar I play most nowadays.

The new Epiphone Customshop 355 in that red satin finish is the best deal around on a semi hollow. With the Custombuckers and 50's wiring, your in like flyn.

You missed a couple of great sleeper ES guitars. I have an absolute mint ES 340 and ES 325. Both are super cool. The 340 is a 72 Blonde with Gibson embossed pickup covers on the patent sticker pickups. It has a 5 piece maple, walnut strip, maple, walnut strip, maple neck. Very much like what was on their higher end archtop guitars at the time. Very stable. It has a funky master volume, Tone controls and blend circuit in it. I removed mine original wiring harness (Saved it intact of course) and installed regular 335 wiring harness. It sounds every bit as good or better than my 67 335 and looks so good in Blonde. Gibson did not make a Blonde 335 in the late 60s or early 70s. I also have a dark cherry ES 325 that is a 1976 model. It is has a full block running from neck to heel, has the drop in wiring harness and plate like an SG Pro from the era and firebird pickups (not mini hum buckers). It also has a unique and great sound. Plays fantastic. One thing I found interesting on both of these is that even on the 76 ES 325, it has a real ABR-1 bridge when Gibson had already switched to the newer "Nashville" bridge. Maybe Gibson was just using up old parts. They both sound great and I like them as well as my 67 ES 335.

Hrm, interesting. You're totally right, those are great guitars. Underrated and unique, and fit within the hollowbody theme... but didn't really fit in with the ES-style guitar theme.

Fantastic guitar. Take all that Justin said about the Casino, and add it to all that Justin said about the 339.

Regarding the Casino tailpiece, its shape is a trapezoid; perhaps thats why it’s called a “trapeze” tailpiece. Great video, plenty of choice available.

Wait a sec, the ES-175 is out of regular production, are they coming back? Does LMQ has them in stock these days?
@longandmcquade2 күн бұрын
No, the ES-175 is out of production. As mentioned, this video is part history lesson and part buyer's guide. The earlier models like the ES-175 is the history lesson part. But, as Justin explains at the end, there's no telling what Gibson might come out with down the line. They've been known to reintroduce long-obsolete models for a special run.

I was expecting you to breakout into a chorus of Wango Tango (i know it's not a Byrdland but it's close) ok, nevermind , see you covered Nugent lol
@kenichi4075 күн бұрын
which one do i prefer? the better crafted one, which will always be the USA one. better carves, neck/fret finishing, selection of woods, lower margin for error (wonky intonations). the epiphones are great for beginners who want a bit more bells and whistle than the standard, but the reality is these more expensive epiphones are still being put together by the same factory line workers pumping out the standards on a daily basis. don't think you're getting any custom shop china factory luthiers working on them....
@teddnagurski55832 күн бұрын
You forgot the ES-333.
@longandmcquade2 күн бұрын
We didn't forget, we just couldn't include every model. We also didn't include the ES-165, or the 295, or the 336... As Justin explains in the beginning, there are lots of different model numbers, but the differences between each of them are pretty minor. The 333 for instance is basically a budget model 335 with a satin finish, a different headstock and different pickups that was only in production for 3 years out of Gibson's entire history, so it was pretty short-lived. It mostly gained popularity due to Tom Delonge, and you can see we have his ES-333 signature model pictured at 10:18.

both are kinda crap. buy an Ibanez or Gretsch
@Metro_Gnome6 күн бұрын
Nope. Ibanez and Gretsch are good...Gibson semi hollows are the one consistent thing they do realllly well imo. Memphis factory doesn't mess around
@longandmcquade6 күн бұрын
@@Metro_Gnome We love the sentiment, and agree that the hollow and semi-hollow Gibsons are some of the best guitars they make, but the Memphis factory closed down in 2019. The ES guitars are built in Nashville now along with their solid body models. But it's going to be the same staff (or at least the best-of-the-best staff) moved over from the old Memphis factory to the Nashville factory. So there's no reason why the consistency you love that came out of Memphis wouldn't also come out of Nashville.
