Thank you for your insightful videos. We are retired (I taught English), with modest income from pensions, social security, and our rented condo in Portland, Oregon ($45k per year plus $1500/month). We just completed four months in Lviv helping a new school open. And we fell in love with the ''old-town" look of Lviv and Krakow. We prefer flat town centers. My wife has MS, so healthcare and air conditioning is critical. Thank you!! Dean & Cindy

can you just show savings? or do you need to show high monthly salary?
@lexidy Жыл бұрын
Hi there! Thanks for your question. To qualify for the Elective Residence visa you need to show proof of income other than salary. The most popular example would be your pension. Other examples would be dividends, royalties, and rental income.

Does rental income count for the southern Italy tax program?
@O1012-u7q Жыл бұрын
The problem with many of these countries is that wealthy retirees with no intent to work need to pay 45% of their worldwide income in taxes. I didn’t work and save all my life to give half my retirement savings to the Italian government. It’s a shame that these countries don’t see a benefit to giving better tax terms for non-lucrative visas. I know certain regions offer lower taxes for 10 years, but kicking the can down the road until I’m 10 years older and less flexible doesn’t make sense to me. The effect of these policies seems to be to mostly just to attract low income retirees who aren’t much affected by the taxes and need the cheap medical.

Do I have to continue submitting the prove of income every year? For the Resident Permit
@lexidy Жыл бұрын
Hi! In short, yes. As the residence permit for Elective Residence has a one-year validity, you will need to renew it every year and you must demonstrate the same requirements (income, housing, health insurance) that were first requested in order to release the Visa. We would love to support you on your Residence Permit renewal application. Simply fill out this form and we'll be in touch: hubs.li/Q021jG_Z0

Does the tax reduction in South Italy include Sicila and/or Sardengna?
@lexidy Жыл бұрын
Hello! Italy has some Tax advantages for different profiles, if you are talking about the special “7% tax regime for pensioners”, both Sardegna and Sicily are included. However, be aware of the requirement regarding the size of the population of the specific city, which cannot surpass 20,000 habitats!
@SteveGrin Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Do they count the metro area or just the town itself, for example Stintino is very small with a population of about 1700, but is that considered part of Sassari?
@lexidy Жыл бұрын
Hi @@SteveGrin the requirement is based on the municipality's population size, so Stintino should qualify!

I am already in Italy with a tourist visa. Is it possible to apply for the elective residence visa while in Italy? Thanks.
@lexidy Жыл бұрын
Hi there. Thanks for your question! The Elective Residence visa can only be applied for in the Country of residence/nationality of the applicant, before the local Italian Consulate. The Elective residence process requires the visa step mandatorily; the visa is, in fact, a travel document to enter the country and it shall be issued by the Italian diplomatic mission abroad. There is the remote possibility of applying for a permit of stay (“permesso di soggiorno) directly in Italy, for those who meet the requirement for Elective Residence, and forego the Visa step abroad; however, this process is not the standard one and so there might be a negative outcome. It is entirely up to the authorities whether or not to accept the application without a Visa. In any case, the applicant must still hold all the requirements for the Elective Residence route.

Hi Giancarlo, if I have a retirement savings account with over $1 million, would that be sufficient to meet the income requirement for Italy? I'm retired and I don't want to work in Italy. Thank you so much. Very helpful video.

Hi there! Savings are useful to demonstrate a solid financial status, which is another requirement of the ERV, but cannot be used to meet the passive income requirement. You may want to consider a possible "transformation" of savings into an eligible form of passive income (e.g. an annuity). We'd love to help you with acquiring your Elective Residence Visa! Minimum passive income requirement is 32,000 Euros per year. What about a spouse? A child? Also 32,000 for each of them? The Italian Consulate in Detroit website does not make this clear. Also, it is my understanding that one must either buy a residence or have a 12 month lease in place BEFORE applying for the visa. What if the visa is denied? The Consulate website says that even if you meet all the listed requirements, your application may still be denied. It all sounds very risky to me.
@lexidy Жыл бұрын
Hi! Let me explain you this. The minimum passive income requirement is, by law, of approx. 32,000 Euros/year (in monthly instalments) for the main applicant; an additional 20% for the spouse and 5% for each dependent child are required.Although this is the amount indicated by law, each Consulate has developed its own practice and discretion, which also involves the passive income amount and the eligible sources; as such, the assessment shall be taken depending on the specific case. Housing arrangements must be already in place at the time of the visa application, that's true, but for example, lease agreements can be structured with more favourable terms and conditions especially when it comes to withdrawal clauses - and our lawyers can support you that as well!None of the clients we assisted ever had to terminate their lease due to a rejection of the visa ☺️ Don’t forget a free consultation via the link in the description of this video, you will have the ability to discuss your situation with lawyer in detail.

@@lexidy I have a question for my friend. She is born in USA but her mother and father were born in Italy. Her entire ancestry is from Italy even though she was born and raised in the USA. She speaks italian and has made multiple trips over any years during her life. Both her parents are deceased. The father died last year and he left her and her sister a house in Italy which is completely paid for. She wants to get an elective residency Visa so she can go back and forth and be able to stay there for at least 4 months at a time and eventually once she is ready to retire and can get her pension, her goal is to retire there. But for now she just wants to be able to go there for extended periods of time beyond 3 months and still be able to maintain her job in the USA which her employers have no problem keeping her employed. The only other additional income she gets is permanent alimony which is only around 1300. a month. Would she be allowed to get a residency visa?

I'm trying to get the Italian citizenship by descent correct. Please some help: My great-grandfather was born in Sicily in 1892 and came to America in 1910. He wasn't naturalized. He married another unnaturalized Italian in 1915 and gave birth to my grandfather in 1918. My grandfather married an Italian descent American and gave birth in 1944 to my mother (an only child). My mother was impregnated by an Italian man but they never married, and his name wasn't put on my birth certificate. Based on this narrative, might I be eligible to be an Italian citizen by descent? Thank you!
