@@raven-deelarsen2644 It was a personal grudge from the higherups at Disney towards the directors of the movie. The ad campaign was awful, and it was put agaisnt Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. Disney WANTED it to fail. And they accomplished it with flying colours.

I love this scene for two reason, 1. Great action scene, great tension, and stacks. 2. It brings the movie full circle, bring us back to when Jim got caught on his Solar-surfer and his line in response to the Doctor stating the portal lead to a raging inferno, "I'm going to change that, I'm going to open a different door." Those lines and the actual situation of change the portal's door are representations of Jim changing his own future.

I remember hearing on-and-off that Directors Musker and Clements had wanted to make 'treasure island in space' probably ever since the 80's. I still think they had a great concept here, but the story probably suffered from alot of studio notes (did we really need BEN to overreact all the time?). When it came out, to me, it felt like the unofficial end of 2D animation, because it was Musker and Clements' last film before they were booted, and Silver was Glen Keane's last character he animated.
