This has been a trend for a while. All their half decent analysts and hosts are being fired, while they keep all their clowns. ESPN doesn't care about sports, they want to be Netflix 2.0 with all their drama shows disguised as talk shows. Because sports needs 9 to 5 daily talk shows year round to talk about their favourite sports league, the NFL, which has a shorter season than offseason (5 months of reg season + postseason). You know the meme clips of Skip Bayless arguing with himself due to his constant change in opinions? This is going to be ESPN, but unironically with SAS arguing with himself in real life.

The rights deals are primarily the reason they have to shed talent. Everything is more expensive for sports. On top of that, they're not growing their cable tv subscriber count. Like it or not, they're keeping the people that move the needle and get views. That's the business. SAS gets views. McAfee gets views. That's why they're making the big money and Zach Lowe is sending resumes.

ESPN needs to pivot to the only thing it has left, insider access. So access to the leagues themselves, the active players, agents, coaches, GMs etc. KZbinrs and Podcasters have taken everything else (because they're better at it). Any type of analysis, of games, players, trades, rosters, salary cap, anything and everything, KZbinrs are way better at it, way more detailed and in depth. While Podcsters cover the opinion angles on these things, so you're going to them to hear their opinions on all this stuff. Again in great depth and detail, and not in 30 seconds of TV time or arguing/yelling at co hosts for a couple of minutes
