what people don't understand is that situations that happen in early a game, dictate situations that will happen later on in the game. Teams adjust and adapt in order how the game develops, so the argument "ok, even if the first 2 goals didn't happen, it would still be 2-2" is flawed because the first 2 goals are the reason croatia needed to take more risks and concede more goals.

If it is true there was no foul on Griezmann, Loris eventually offered the goal back to Croatia. 3. The penalty kick did not decide the match. France went on to score 2 more goals, and Croatia only one. 4. France is world champion because it is the strongest team of the tournament, demonstrably so. 5. In the last 6 world cups, France reached the final 3 times, and won it 2 times. 6. In the last 5 European cups, France reach the final 2 times, and won it once. 7. Perisic's arm was in a natural position as he needed to lift his hands up so he could jump but he didnt see the ball because of Matuidi. Griezmannn obviously dived as Brozovic tried to stop but he couldn't because of the momentum. The penalty crushed Croatian player's mentality and the will to play. Pogba didn't touch the ball but he did score because of pure luck as Subasic couldn't see the ball after Modric's block. Mentality got even more crushed and no will whatsoever. French football in the final is based on Mbappe's speed. They kick the ball out of their box and give it to Mbappe as he outruns Vida. In my opinion Croatia should have won as they were a better team and played better but luck wasn't on their side. I'm from Croatia and I couldn't believe my eyes when I watched the final. Astrom34 There is something called a psychological aspect of the game and it is impossible to play when ref gives 2 goals to someone just because they are fifrance and if there werent two gift goals there france would not have chance for their counter attack and they only scored from two counters because Croatia had to chase gift goals. Griezman is world champion in diving and during FREE kick pogba was in offside and he had influence on mandzukic in scoring own goal by pushing him winh hand. Pitana is one of the worst final refs ever.

The current policy is that if there is a significant chance that the hand is intentional, then it is counted as a handball and it is a penalty. If you watch some gif of the action on the internet, indeed the arms of Perisic are falling from gravity, but suddenly it moves towards the ball as if he wanted to slap it. It might not be intentional but there is a good chance that it is (it does look like it is). So yes it was the right decision, but when it's a French you guys can't help but say it's unfair.

For the Griezmann free kick, dive or not, it was an obvious foul from the defender. I don't think Griezmann dived but it is clear that if he had not dived, the tackle would have hit his legs pretty hard. Not an easy call for the ref and it wasnt in penalty area so no VAR. But it was a late tackle that's for sure.

OmgSryWrongHole we were amazing throughout the whole tournament we were way better than france and we deserved to win the world cup and I don't care what anyone thinks. They scored 4 goals against us with 2 of them being completely non existing in the first place and the two they scored after that penalty were just the result of our team being mentally defeated in such short time. We showed how we can come back throughout the matches multiple times on this tournament but we couldn't go against referees this time. It's okay though, we'll win the world cup eventually.

Denver Gavin referee also gave wrong free kicks on imaginary faults on Modrić and on Mandžukić. He forgot to give a clear yellow card to Strimic. He forgot many faults against French in the second half. The penalty was 100% clear since Perišić brought his hand to the ball. Referee was clearly not the 12th man of France team.

Tony, you need to understand his acting to arrive at correct conclusion, he intervened only when Croatia was in a position to score, or when the result was a tie, after France had enough goals, he had to act it out and oversee some of the fouls on France. forget about the cups each team have won, Argentina and Uruguay had completely different squads when they won the World Cup. Hell, when Uruguay won their first World Cup their were only 13 teams! you have a way better chance of winning or reaching the final if there are only 13 teams compared to 32 teams. Argentina were not even that good and if they were actually stronger than France why did they tie with Iceland and lose 3-0 to Croatia? France and Croatia faced a few of the same teams and hell France couldn't beat Denmark in 90 minutes either. Uruguay only beat KSA by 1 goal so don't be surprised that a team like France would beat Uruguay. Croatia also beat Argentina in regular time and didn't concede once. Keep in mind Subasic got an injury before the final as well. France was also super lucky for beating Australia. that own goal was barely a goal, if that ball went slightly out of hand it could be the difference between goal and no goal. It wasn't deliberate (in slow-mo or in real time) and it hasn't got to be deliberate to award penalty. Hand was in an unnatural position and may have prevented a clear chance as another player was behind. It is unfortunate but it is a penalty.
