@@KG_614It’s does not excuse, but it is a reason why it happened. Until the mental health crisis gets worse, more things like this will continue to happen. It is completely ignorant for us to ignore the childhood traumas and history of criminals, as many of them develop mental health health issues because of this.

They usually have a personality disorder and, more specifically, a Cluster B personality disorder. In the case of this kid, he's a sociopath because of the emotional neglect he endured from both of his addict parents, who also both have underlying characterological disorders. Note: personality disorders is the term in psychology, and in psychiatry, they are called characterological disorders read: disorders of moral character. They are one and the same, just different terms for different disciplines.

Yet the psychiatrist hired by Crumbleys lawyers testified he had major depressive disorder and psychosis. Each psychiatrist had different views. This “expert” was rather obnoxious and curt in some of her replies. Wonder if she has narcissistic disorder? 🤔. Though honestly, the statute is the statute. Wonder if this woman is a professional prosecution expert.

@@asmrmess I completely agree that he definitely requires some type of professional psychiatric intervention that results in a treatment plan. That being said, based on all the evidence in all of the court proceedings and other details that have been published publicly, I believe there was definitely some comorbidity of psychiatric issues beyond clinical depression. The enthusiasm with which he declares he is going to be a school shooter (multiple times) is not typically the type of disposition you would see in a depressed individual. The affinity to this suggests aspects of narcissism (for the notoriety as he is using terms like "school shooter," which is typically a term that the media would use) and anti-social tendencies (from the complete disregard for human life - or animal life based on the evidence of the dead bird collection in his room). All that said, this is all casual speculation as an outsider. I have not performed any official psychiatric screening or examinations therefore I would refrain from offering any confirmed diagnosis. But again, I agree with you that depression was definitely part of the equation here.

Personality disorders are NOT mental illness...they are characterological disorders, as in character disorders: a disorder of MORAL character. Personality disorders are the underlying cause of most... ...murder ...violent and non-violent crime ...financial crime and fraud ...rape ...pedophilia, child molestation, and child predation ...stalking ...spree shooting ...serial killing ...cult leadership ...human trafficking ...drug trafficking ...animal torture ...sexual sadism ...everyday sadism ...child abuse ...child neglect ...child exploitation ...identity theft, embezzlement, art forgery All of the above are the behavioral choices of personality-disordered individuals, and *far more rarely* those with true mental illness (i.e. paranoid schizophrenia, psychopathic schizophrenia, bipolar disorder-mania, etc.). ...and then you have meth addicts who...from what I'm told...are capable of damn near anything, no matter how absolutely heinous or unthinkable the crime might be, including severe animal torture (like the sick meth-addict guy in Houston who cut off the legs of several puppies then took them into the vet).

I'm from Barcelona, Spain and in my country there is only one mental illness state where you cannot be charged and go to court. It's when is proofed that the person was in a psychotic attack in the moment the crime was committed and this person couldn't distinguish what was real and what was not. Only once it happened in my country when a woman killed their little children becase she thought Devil was possessing them or something like that. The point is that with police cameras you could clearly see her just right after the crime and she was absolutely in another reality, hiden "from Devil" in a big trash can totally naked. She was brought straight to the hospital and spend several months there until detectives could talk to her. I remember psychiatrists explaining that a psychotic attack lasts days or weeks. So it means that you cannot jus say as a defense that you didn't know what were you doing at the moment because if you're mental unapacitated isn't a matter of a moment but is a matter of days and weeks that you're in another planet. I don't know how it works in USA but I guess must be the same.

Mental illness really does not equate to violence or evil… I think people really need to spend time in a psych ward to see what mental illness is. There’s a HUGE difference between being “crazy” and being mentally ill. Yes the mentally ill can be dangerous, BUT not everyone who commits a huge violent act is mentally ill. I am a psychiatric nurse, and what this psychiatrist is saying is COMPLETELY true. It’s hard to understand, but blaming all of this on mental illness is really counterproductive. I didn’t understand this until I worked in psych. These are behavioral issues, and behavior is a CHOSEN act… the fault is all in him, not an illness he had no control over. Yes life can suck, but that gives no one an excuse to pick up a gun and kill others. The importance is picking up on the warning signs and not ignoring it… putting them in therapy and keeping them on a watch list… or something along those lines. I don’t have the answers, but meds wouldn’t have helped his CHOICE to pursue violence.

It depends on the dosage? ADHD meds can be life-changing for so many. So he has ADHD? I didn't see that anywhere. If he has it and wasn't medicated for it then it's a big issue. 50% of those with ADHD also have autism and it's easier to develop more mental illnesses over time. Especially if not diagnosed and treated. And I mean therapy not just meds. Meds help, but therapy is crucial.

She’s worse than his parents. All of the evidence that points to mental illness. Him being mentally ill doesn’t mean he deserves a slap on the wrist, just provides understanding as to why something like this happens. Hope she isn’t getting paid to say him along with others aren’t mentally ill, especially with the evidence of mental illness. She basically says, he could have continued to kill animals when he felt the urge to kill. 🤔🤔 girlllllllllllll what tf?! As though the uncontrollable urge to kill isn’t mental illness. I feel like we will see her being charged for lying in these cases in the future.

Even IF we believed Ethan was "mentally ill" at the time of the murders (which most of us don't); the standard for mental illness to where it would negate cognitive and physical awareness, hence diminish his responsibility, is that he would have to have a DISEASED MIND, resulting in psychotic behaviours that do NOT only show up in criminal behaviour, but that has a notable history outside of criminal behaviour. In other words, that can not be used as an insanity defense. Many before Ethan have tried and failed to use psychosis and "mental illness" as an aggravating factor in their defense strategy, for the same reasons.

This witness is very biased, shown by not answering the questions and adding her own opinion to what that question was aiming at. She also misstated psychosis - she stated that treatment is required to stop being psychotic. In reality, people drift in and out of psychosis episodes. If I was prosecution, I wouldn’t use her - she’s very harsh, verbally combative during cross, and clearly biased. You need someone calm and steady, strong on their professional opinion.
