This is the most attentive judge I've ever seen. I've watched quite a few trials too.

His parents are self absorbed, awful parents. They neglected him, not that it BEGINS to excuse this and he absolutely needs the appropriate sentence but they contributed to this. As a parent I can tell you Id be concern for my child's future over my own every.damn.time. Without question. Maybe mom is a narcissist?

This woman has no intention on 'speaking louder' no matter how many times she's been asked to. What does she not understand about that?? It's like she's doing it on purpose. She is most likely a counselor that is assigned to prisoner's only, not a private practice. I definitely would not want her as my regular psychiatrist/counselor. She sounds mundane, boring and unsympathetic, and not encouraging or upbeat at all. Like she's just going through the motions.

Does this witness know how to raise her voice? 🙄 Was asked 3 or 4 times to increase her volume, says OK, proceeds to speak at the same level. She's a defense witness, so I am sure her testimony is worthless anyway.

How many times does this witness need to be told to keep her voice up?? Judge needs to tell her to raise her voice like when she’s arguing with her husband! What a poor witness. Sheesh!!🙄

Some people are just soft spoken...and plus the circumstances may make the witnesses nervous. The techs or who ever needs to either raise the volume of the mics or get better mics or have the witnesses sit closer to the mic. Its not rocket science. I get that they need to be heard properly but again the court needs to put in place better equipment!!

I believe she misdiagnosed him. She completely ignored his history of hallucinations which were main symptoms. Hallucinations don’t necessarily have to be commanding, but his mom caught him talking to himself before… I’m thinking his lack of insight is why he reported they weren’t telling him to do anything 😮 he was also very grandiose, had a consistently flat affect, and was compulsive. Depression may be a secondary diagnosis, but early onset Schizophrenia is definitely the main.

In her own testimony she stated she ruled out a psychotic disorder based on his description of the voices (mainly internal) and because after 100 sessions with him he never exhibited signs of responding to internal stimuli. Only those working closely with him would be able to definitively diagnose him. Criteria for schizophrenia versus Depression with psychotic features versus bipolar disorder have to be met including duration of the symptoms. As an observer of this interesting case, I too have wondered why he was never given a diagnosis related to the voices and auditory and visual hallucinations he reported. Maybe in time if those symptoms resume, then the criteria for Psychosis or Schizophrenia would be met and that diagnosis be given. For now, it seems he is not Schizophrenic.

I personally doubt ANY Shrink is able to make an on spot diagnose within 15 MIN. ! That's ridiculous. All the time she's spend with him so far should've been done within a month and a half (or so). Guess her job in 1st line is to find and prescribe the right DRUGS for him, which in return (will also) suppress certain symptoms!! So she is good to go, see her other 299 'patients'.

She sounds depressed too, the doctor expert. I would become even more depressed if I had to talk to her. Sorry, but true, cant lie. Sure she is competent, but some should chear her up a little. Depressing work she has, and amoung sick people all the time sure can make you down. But think psycatrists should encourage their patients and get better. So tired listen to her, even if it s interesting, Sorry maam, but please try to have some fun in your life.

I wouldn't be able to have her as my psych man. The accent is too thick. I can deal with it now but if I had my super anxiety/depression, I wouldn't handle it. I wouldn't be able to understand her. And her depression is obvious. She looks sad, sounds sad and just totally over being alive

How can a 15-year-old juvenile with mental issues be sentenced to life in prison without the chance of parole? This can't be constitutional!
@lindacoats5347

I bet the parents of the victims would strongly disagree. Ethan was well aware of what his sentence could be if he managed to stay alive while shooting up the school. He googled it all before he injured and murdered those kids. But, you never know, sometime in the future someone may change the law and Ethan can be out again.

The victims requested it and so did the shooter. Life is only 30 yrs. But his other charged are consecutive and he will start it when his life sentence is over. Plus he will in 25 years get a new sentencing because of his age.
