Hell yeah they're 100% at fault any parent who actually gave a dayum would have never let it even get that far. They didn't check his room where he had an abundance of disturbing things going on. And there's no way a responsible parent wouldn't have had the gun locked up in a gun safe. Without a trigger lock for supervised use only. I love guns but they're not toys I would never get my kid a handgun, a hunting rifle you bet but a handgun. There's no use for a 14/15 year old kid to have a concealable weapon and accessible too smh

If parents can go to jail in the USA for providing alcohol to their minor children, then the STANDARD federal law should be that parents who provide weapons to their minor children should be held to the same standard. The American justice system is so backwards.

But i also woulda stood a better chance of being functional. (Which I’m not). I think the world would be a way better place if people were truly ok. Most people aren’t. So if he gets life with a chance at parole after 25 years how is the judge going to stack the sentences? If they are consecutive then it will be 100 years before he is released for parole. If they are concurrent then it doesn't address the individual murder of each child done in an execution style. He additionally shot 7 other people. For those of the commenters below that stated that his parents neglected him: there was really no evidence of that. It was the psychologist stating it upon Ethan self reporting it. I think one neighbor stated it That's all. He had a multitude of relatives and the assistant school principal who knew him by name at the time. If the neighbor thought there was a problem then why didn't she report it to child welfare? He should have a chance at minimum security prison but not parole ever.

What unsettles me the most about all this is how unhealthy this all was. How the hell can someone think that enrolling their own son at a shooting range and encouraging them to learn how to shoot a gun was ever gonna help them practically, especially if that someone is their own mother. That really gets to me a lot as a mother is generally supposed to know what's best for their children and participating in this kind of activity was never going to be beneficial for Ethan given his age. She should have supported him to go to the gym or to get contact lenses/laser eye surgery, as these things would have changed his image and helped improve his mental state. Overall the shooting happened because of how Ethan had viewed himself.

I'm not happy with this testimony.....look she bought the gun for him but it wasn't for him to actually kill people. It was to help him grow up and learn man like activities so that he could over come the way that bulling would make him feel .....and so that he knew he parents were on his side....knew and felt his pain.

Exactly!👍More than plenty of parents in America do exactly the same thing either for others reasons or for the reason you just said. This means the real issues here is introducing your children to guns at a young age, and the freedom of access to guns in America period. I've read crazy f**kin' comments in this section saying that the real cause of the shooting wasn't the parents introducing Ethan to guns at a young age or the accessibility to guns in America, but the type of gun that was introduced to Ethan😦Someone said they believe it was really bad idea to buy Ethan a handgun but it would have been completely fine if the parents bought him a hunting rifle or a shotgun instead as there's been a lower proportion of school shootings where a hunting rifles or a shotguns has been used compared to handguns😮I mean you've got to be f**kin' kidding me that bulls**t right? The movie I was watching earlier today the prepartrator used a shotgun and a revolver and it was a school shooting movie, Target of Rage it was called. That was quite good as they really humanized the shooter in the movie with all his struggles that led him to do what he did and none of it resembled Ethan in any way, including the weapons he used. Even though I do agree with the possible reason the parents got him a gun and introduced him to guns I believe my take on this would have been best and the parents should have invested in something more productive for Ethan like contact lenses or a gym membership, which would have improved Ethan's mindset, where a membership at a gun range just wouldn't have done that. Hell they could have gotten him a guitar🎸if they had the money to blow on a gun!

Why isn’t the NAME of the psychologist either announced by the CourtTV host or scrolled across televised video?

The parents weren't wrong for getting him a gun or taking him to a shooting range, they were wrong for getting him a gun and giving him access to it without knowing their son's mental and emotional health or concerning themselves with the safety of others in regards to that.

Why not both, if he’s statistically less likely to kill someone without a gun, or kill as many.

Oh that's not the only thing! Apparently people think it was the type of gun the parents got that was the real problem. There's some who believe that if Ethan's parents had bought him a hunting rifle or a shotgun then the shooting would never have happened😱
