One of my leaders once said, "Men, I do not punish you. You punish yourselves by doing stupid s**t. I just hold you accountable." I cannot even count the times NCOs and officers were removed from the unit for falling short. Many SF tabs were revoked too. I never saw them try to hide stuff. Around 45:00 Eric address instructors favoring guys that were on steroids. I was at BUDS in 2017 and the instructors made it a point to tell us multiple times that you don't need PEDs to get through. However, a non-insignificant portion of the class (my estimate would be 25-30% of the guys that started phase, and 50% of the guys that made it through hell week) were on PEDs. A class or two before mine allegedly had someone get caught with them in the barracks, this spiraled up the chain and they searched everyone's cars. Nothing was found in the cars, but they did find PEDs in the parking lot. Since it couldn't be attributed to anyone there was no action taken. For my class it was an open secret that if you were using that you either kept it in a cooler in your car or in a fridge off base. I don't think that the instructors favored the guys that were on gear, I believe that they favored the strong performers (who happened to be on gear).

Isn’t Jocko’s whole deal about admitting he wasn’t the best, he made the worst kind of mistakes? He publicly admits that and often mentioned he was VERY average at most things. His public persona took off because us civilians found it incredibly refreshing that a dude who looked like a silverback was coming forward almost exclusively taking about his faults and shortcomings. He speaks openly about the discipline he engages in just to simply keep up with the juggernauts (physically and intellectually) he was surrounded by - I don’t think many see it as a tough guy brag.

@@065Tim I’m reminded of the corrupt banker in the film “Inside Man,” who in his own words tries to atone for relieving Jews of their property in WWII through a life of good deeds. But he never publicly owned his actions, and so his atonement is fake. I can’t say I’ve watched or read enough of Willink to know whether he has publicly atoned for specific mistakes or sins. I would however say that merely preaching an ethos of personal accountability is not enough if one does not walk the walk through owning all of one’s SPECIFIC wrongs.

There was incompetence at all levels in Iraq and Afghanistan. With people you’d expect to be squared away. Some were more concerned about reflective belts than getting their jobs done. A lot of overconfidence and arrogance. That of course includes the people calling the shots in DC. No matter what unit it still comes down to the individual and their leadership. Roberts Ridge. Overconfidence. Lack of planning. Improper use of assets at many levels. Underestimating the enemy. Poor TTP. Chapman assessed the situation as soon as he got off the Chinook. He chose to charge that bunker as opposed to running down that mountain and giving up the high ground. He had no time for indecision. Why the others chose to leave is only something they can answer. The leadership should answer on why they went through with a shit plan. The truth should be given. I feel a lot of the same applies to Redwings. Overconfidence. Poor utilization of assets. Underestimating the enemy. It takes time in the woods to be good in the woods. Same applies to the mountains. Its not something you just pick up in a course. Thats why the SOG guys worked with and learned from the indigenous in Vietnam. If they didn’t learn to move through the jungle quietly and efficiently they didn’t last long. When they came into contact they hauled ass. They had the King Bee’s on standby to extract them. They had good comms to call in air support. They had good TTP’s to maximize their success. There should have been the same or similar for the guys on Redwings. The Afghans have been fighting in those mountains forever. They live in the mountains. They have an advantage in the mountains. The plan was weak from inception. Why no ISR support or air support for a four man mission? Weak comms negated getting help. This plan had disaster written all over it. As for Luttrell. Once they were under fire only him and his team knew what the situation was. Three PKM’s on the high ground and outnumbered does not sound like a good situation. How much cover was there? I’m sure it was overwhelming. He made the decision to run as opposed to die I’m assuming. Only he was there. He admitted to being overwhelmed when he said he covered his ears. Three PKM’s raining down on you probably doesn’t give much room to return fire. Or even move. He made his decision. Only he knows what the situation was. After that who knows pushed what narrative. Maybe he will clear this up. The whole Jocko thing needs to be addressed. If extreme ownership is the theme then maybe he will come forward. Men are men. Men will make mistakes. You’d just like people to come clean or clear things up so others can learn. So next time the outcome will be better.

Well, his response is up. Would like to see a follow up. He's named some higher ups who were in charge at the time. Would have easily been able to spot and clamp down any sort of war crimes easily and squash that Task Force. So were all Chains of Command, Iraqi Army, Marine Corps, JSOC, SF ... all behind this Task Force? hiding their secrets? That's the claim. Also, the count on Marines KIA from that Unit. Doesn't match up. That's a strike on the accusers who claimed that a specific number were killed, spread that word, and didn't even bother to look up the actual recorded number of KIA dates and times. When an accusation is answered with recorded contradiction, someone is wrong, either by willful omission or ignorance.

I was in Iraq from 2003-2008 as a Marine Infantryman. What this seal Eric says aligns with my experience in Ramadi, Fallujah, Haditha, Haglaniyah, Hit, Husaybah, etc. It is the Marines BLT’s AO(area of operations) and we are the ones who fight daily! Chris Kyle was chasing body counts. They made more enemies for us Marines. Seals are great, but some are over zealous and lack humility. We watched one seal team turning in circles in Iraqi cities. Interesting story. Mine was shooting with a former 1st Group dude just outside of Vegas many years ago. He ruined my heroes without me having to meet them. 😉 Lone Survivor was really big at that time and he said that whole thing was fucked. I knew the “facts” from the book and what he said certainly didn’t make me feel good. We went back and forth on some points like how many energy combatants there were. When he said 8 I about lost my mind. “I think you’re at least missing a zero on that number”. Yep I was an idiot. 🤦🏻♂️ Like you I thought it was competitive thing. Until I said “and how exactly do you know all this”? “We watched the Sat Feed right after it happened. Those dudes were fucked no matter what. Based off Marcus’s position there wasn’t much he could do but none of that story is accurate and Marcus making money off it is one of many reasons why SEALs aren’t respected in the SOF community. That mission should have been scrubbed in it’s inception. Stupid Fucking SEALs.” “Ok then I guess I can’t argue with that now what other heroes or movies can you ruin for me?” He ruined Kyle and some other things as well. From that day on I haven’t believed any of these popular stories or characters without thoroughly digging into them. It’s why I like Goggins. A lot of people don’t but I love that he’s an open book. Thank you for this. It has really helped me have a better understanding of the big picture when it comes to the the issues facing this country. Since 911 I have been paying close attention to politics, culture, with a heavy focus on the legacy media. It's been an interesting journey being a part of the on and offline networks also watching all of this unfold and being a part of trying to get others involved. It's amazing and rather mindblowing to see how much this country has changed. Especially at the top and what the leadership class is willing to say and do. Some of it so insane and over the top, I for sure thought that as soon as it become wider known there would be massive pushback but nothing. The last few years it has started to get better and I keep seeing more and more saying that 2024 is going to be the year for justice and a reckoning. then I come across a video like this and it puts things a new perspective. That even our oath keepers, The strongest and most courageous amongst us are also dealing with not only corruption from within their ranks, But an unwillingness for the majority to come to together and call it out in an attempt to make it right. That even if our warriors are having a hard time standing up against it, It makes more sense why the majority of working class Americans who have awoken to the corruption from within our leadership and institutions, Still haven't come together to stand in unity to fight it. It does seem like the tide is turning and I do have hope that more and more are going to start to say enough.

Then to find out his lying got Matt killed as he told the guys rescuing him that they were all dead when in fact they were not… what if he said that in hopes that nobody got to them because they would have told the truth and he would have been punished? Come on dude you know his job was to organize, plan, and deploy his guys. This is petty jealously conjecture, and storytelling. He was pushed to training? He chose training and was the OIC to teach the guys what was going on in the battlefield. That’s a sh*t job? He was tight with the Admiral and had his choice of assignments. Talk to any guy that went through his training and didn’t complain about their own guys and ask if Jocko was super effectual. Jocko went in when he was 18. How many guys do you know under the age of 20 that made it through BUDS under 20? 5% of the guys that MAKE it through which is makes him in the 1%. He literally grew up in the teams! With that said, talk to the guys that served with him and under him. Talk to Jimmy May for example not guys that don’t actually know him and did not ACTUALLY serve with him. Blaming Jocko for everything Chris Kyle did in 1 of 4 deployments? Come on dude, this is a bridge too far and you are just going for someone that does not deserve to be sh*t on. He’s spectacular PR for the teams and is the first to say he was never the best at anything and everything. Never once heard Jocko claim to be a war hero, or say that the SEALs single handedly won Ramadi. To my memory he ALWAYS says “the Marine unit we were attached to” when referencing most actions and has nothing but great things to say about the Marines, or regular Army. If he did wrong, he deserves to be held accountable for it. But this guy sounds unhinged. “I KNOW THIS HAPPENED” …. “I CAN PROVE THIS”… it’s like listening to some of the people on JRE explain how they can prove Joe Biden or Trump are a Lizard Person… but never actually provide any hard proof. Prove it than. I’ll gladly eat crow on this one, but accusing people of things usually comes with evidence, not anecdotal questions about someone’s morality/character. Edit* Spelling.

Exactly.. this is a bunch of heresay about a man that has never claimed to be a "hero", more or less broad statements about someone being "out of control" and putting people in danger.. Going on missions in Ramadi was constant danger at this time frame.. Everyone learns from their misakes, and in war unfortunately that comes at the cost of some of your own men in the name of winning.. Look how many men in WW2 & Vietnam were just pushed into situations they knew were going to kill 80% or more of each platoon.. War is harsh, yet years later folks like this guy want to put a moral compass over the heads of warriors that we created to kill other humans, this guy prob never saw these children being raped and murdered, heads being lopped off with swords, innocent women shot in the heads.. ect ect..

For everybody commenting. Do your own research and don't make opinions based on a KZbin video. There are a few disparaging remarks against Jocko that are not accurate in this video. If it's intentional, i don't know, but it seems this video is more about shock value than accuracy. -The Marine KIA numbers are not accurate. 17 Marines died and the most Marine casualties occurred before TFB showed up. -Jocko was not kicked from the teams he left honorably while being recommended for promotion. -Jocko did not have the latitude to just send troops out. That's not how combat in the same AO works. I cannot confirm or deny this point, but my 5 combat deployments with and without USASOC tells me there is no place this is a possibility. Unless Ramadi was the only place that SEALs just ran around like cowboys without combatant commander oversight. I'm not going to speak on all points, but i question the credibility of the guest, given a simple Google search would discredit a few key points. Not a SEAL fan boy either. Find them tacky and annoying. But let's not devalue the truth by putting false accusations on the load speaker.
@jessebarnett46129 ай бұрын
I am all about the truth. And I sensed a precipitous change in the SEAL community back in 1997 '98 time frame. That's when Seal Team 6 was expanding rapidly and dragging bodies from the regular teams into their command. However, judging people for tactical calls in the past is a thin ice situation. I respect that Eric went through the IG initially, I was not aware of that in the past. And I agree those who were lying in the case of stolen valor at Roberts ridge should be called out, but it's dangerous and often dishonest to try to second-guess a tactical call. It's easy when looking back. I wasn't where that there were other units willing to openly criticize task force bruiser for the negative effects they were causing. That's not good! I was very proud to grow up in the seal community when I did, because it was one that espouse great moral value and direction. It was all about being a quiet professional

Things happen in war. There are too many factors to generally place 1 person accountable. Each mission has to be approved. Prior to that, the platoon chiefs initially train and mentor their team. The training unit tests , then signs them off each person, team, platoon and task force (eachlevel of warrior) for deployment. Meaning to say that the accountability is widespread.
@margowalters9 ай бұрын
I think Mr Deming should have mentioned that his 2008 IG complaint stemmed directly from the awarding of NSW training contracts and that he believes his career was ended as a result of this. There is nothing wrong with having an axe to grind, but cloaking motive in the guise of impartiality only clouds the issue. It should also be noted that the IG complaint and a complaint filed with the US Attorney's Office were both not acted on, if that tells you anything. In addition, the business partner(Mannino) was arrested in 1980 for selling quaaludes. Twenty-seven years before the business partnership, per Mr Deming's attachments. He did his time and rejoined society. Is he not allowed to move forward with his life after paying his debt? I have not seen anything to indicate he was convicted of crimes after he was released from prison.
@cherlyn_combs9 ай бұрын
There it is. The truth that doesn’t fit the narrative that Mr. Deming has been telling himself and assigning Jocko Willink nefarious intent with cherry-picked hearsay. Dang it. I was over this after the first podcast filled with jealous, bitter rants. My heart broke for him as I listened to where his thought life still was after almost 20 yrs. Eric mentioned his integrity that’s above reproach in the first podcast. When you make accusations and re-traumatize Gold Star Families based on hearsay and gossip, your integrity is no longer above reproach. If what you have to say is true, prove it. I wish you well, Eric. I hope, at some point, you and Jocko have a chance to sit down face-to-face offline.

So from that point alone I give a lot of credence to the authenticity of this information. He's not on here to get "likes" or promote a book. He's passionate about an organization he spent his blood, sweat, and tears to. For 99% of these men they sacrificed a lot to be a part of these elite units so it's not out of the question for guys to consider suicide or refuse to personally expose corruption they observed or took part in during their time.
