Etymology: Origins of the Word Slut

In the mid-17th century, the diarist, Samuel Pepys wrote of his beloved daughter, "Our little girl Susan is a most admirable, slut, and pleases us mightily." In Pepys time, slut had nothing to do with sex. But his sentence demonstrates an important lesson about history. Words change meaning over time.
