It's always terrible fighting the Tuscan Empire. They always send out raiding parties to harass their enemies. Those Tuscan raiders are easily routed, but they always return, and in greater numbers!

The whole Italian mechanics thing is very interesting, never played in there tho so I have no idea how any of it works. As another commentator Poland Man said, the in universe reason for your lack of a great power status could be explained as them refusing to recognise your power. You could RP it so that the Pope is also against you as a major power which leads to war between you and the papacy. In the future you could flip to be protestant or some variation of it since relations between you and the pope are so bad you would rather not have the pope influencing your countries politics so protestantism slowly becomes the state religion in order to break the chains of papal oppression.

Aragon has done the Palermu thing in every single Europe game I've ever played, I wouldn't worry about it too much. As well, great timelapse, man! I can't wait to see the next one.

I guess if were gonna keep a in-universe/game explanation on why you're seen as a 'local power', its just the other Italian monarchs, Dukes and Doges just refusing to acknowledge or recognize you as the actual power that you've become. lol

The Italian wars were later in the EU timeline, right? Maybe there's a time factor that's lowering the Italian power thing in the early game, and over time (especially after the HRE shadow kingdom events fire) the powers rise. Also, maybe you just don't have enough of the right kind of powers? Genoa might be one of them, but I can't tell if you have any upgraded Centers of Trade. The cities and trading ports/centres were name-dropped, besides development, as factors.

A thought on your endgame, maybe you should try tall Italy with a collection of satellite state surrounding you? It could be a good difference in the usual blobbing fest that EU4 usually becomes.

How have you got MEIOU and Taxes running? I tried rolling back to 1.29 in a beta version but it was very buggy for me
