I have a feeling some of the spices that were "mild" may have just been stale. Most of the time the containers spices come in are far from airtight, and they'll lose flavor relatively quick (especially if you're trying to get through something like that paprika container). Anything that comes in plastic is almost guaranteed to go stale pretty quick. Unless you're using airtight glass type containers, your spices will be losing flavor. On a side note I hope someone at least gave Eugene a hug when he was depressed; but it's also endearing to see him "fail beautifully" and dust himself off and get back up the next day.
