I think a neat idea would be Cayde being brought back not as an Exo, but as a Ghost. We’re never told what Ghost are other than essentially emissaries of the Traveler. If they’re simply meant to be a conduit of Light for guardians, why do each have a unique personality? Maybe guardians that were strong with Light in death could be Ghosts it even fits for the name “Ghost”. Maybe a guardian we meets Ghost has Cayde’s voice, obviously not his memories but personality is near exact. Either that or maybe an alternate voice of our Ghost after he vaguely recognizes us or takes a liking for an unknown reason to him.

I’m not 100% but they came out around the time humanity was at its absolute lowest, there only a finite amount of ghosts out there, and only certain ways for them to die, but then again it’s been seen that it’s possible for ghosts to override other ghosts, so maybe a personality wouldn’t be too far fetched.

I think their name being Ghost refers to how they're our ghost, and if that's the case then Cayde being a ghost has already happened, and has since been destroyed, like a banishing. Although, he can probably still be rebooted.

Cayde wouldn't have kept a backup of himself. And it's actually incredibly unlikely of him to have done that and not just because of the technical limitations. Although we do know that Clovis kept backups of their brain scans. But from what we know it's only the backup from when they were first put in an exo body. So there would be a chance but it's highly unlikely. And he wouldn't remember us at all or know whats going on. Even if it was a brain scan of his most recent reset because that was from before he died and was revived by his ghost.

Reviving him would undo all of it. This is basic storytelling, and worked so well because Bungie set up a character we love and killed him off. There were backups of brain scans, that Clovis had. But that's it. Exo technology is pretty unknown and difficult to understand if you aren't someone who worked on them or where Clovis. We know that brain scans were saved the moment the human was put into the exo body, so the first reset (Cayde-1 basically), and resets after that were also backed up but only *if* Clovis wanted it to be because of sensitive information they might know which he doesn't want them knowing. So there's a chance Cayde-1 or his latest reset (which was before the collapse lol) is available for a new body if we find out how to do it, but he definitely wouldn't know what's happening or who we are at all.

That was exactly what they DID do. Eternity was basically a big fat cloud server for all Exos, so if one got damaged, they could just bring them back with a new body. But then after Europa fell to the Vex, the connection to Eternity was severed. The Exos that fought to reclaim Europa basically used Imprints that weren't connected to Eternity to constantly respawn themselves to fight the Vex until Memory Degradation or the Imprints shorting out prevented them from continuing.

I actually like the idea of Blank Slate Cayde, just like I enjoy The Crow. There'd be a subtle amount of enjoyment watching him slowly start to exhibit similarities, personality-wise, to our Cayde. Like watching a child grow up into an adult. Especially if you factor in everyone telling him what he is, and how he's a living tribute to an Exo who did fantastically selfless - if foolish - things. The resulting internal struggle of watching this baby Exo trying to sort out in his mind how to live up to that legacy - or not - would be a very interesting plot thread.

Cayde could just be simuilated in the Infinite Forest, the same way that multiples of Osiris can be. The lore doesn't seem to suggest that the Vex have difficulty simulating all guardians, but rather specifically the playable character where the player's entrance to the forest introduced new realities that Osiris was interested in. They would just need to simulate an alternate present where Cayde survived, and get his input from that simulation without having to revive him.

The best way for cayde to have been brought back within the story: The last wish granted by Riven after its defeat should have been Cayde’s resurrection. It’s the most fitting scenario since Riven was really the one who caused Cayde’s death, so ironically he would also be the one to bring him back. Nathan Fillion proved that was a lie himself. He didn't leave Bungie, he couldn't make it to their studio for audio recording due to having his own series going at the same time and they wouldn't accept his offer of doing the recording at a place he could access. Cayde had a gambling problem as a human and sold himself to clovis to pay it off and protect his family. He forgot his family but kept fragments of his son. He um... didn't lose the gambling issue though. Seems cayde never learned and continued to gamble throughout his life as an exo and a gaurdian.

Didn’t we already learn how cayde was a janitor working in the crypt and walked in at the wrong time learning secrets never meant to be known. A struggle inside one of the download ports ensued and he was forced into one of the pods that would download his mind. He was the first to be wiped more than 3 times and planted with memories strong enough to erase the remnants of his previous career. Clovis then used him as his personal assassins or an undisclosed time where cayde perfected his skills.

Unfortunately Cayde was overconfident, but he was not particularly an exemplary of competence as a member of the Vanguard, but instead just a highly respected Hunter for his exploits across the galaxy.

Man his death scene is one of the saddest in gaming along with some others like Arthur Morgan’s but caydes meant more to me as I knew him longer and the game is not the same without him just imagine if cayde never died in forsaken and he ended up appearing during the deep stone crypt raid during a secret part of it or somthing

I thought it would be cool if his exo consciousness (influenced by vex technology) somehow took over a minotaurs body and would have limited broken dialog but you know it was home through his gestures and stuff and the eye would turn to blue or have a spade/ Siva look to it flashing and all digitally adjusting all the time

They could always have the traveller reawaken all the stored exo minds and give them ghosts. Still think Rasputin needs a metroplex or Unicron/Primus type body using siva and possibly merging with the traveller.

personally I don't think being an exo automatically makes a person qualified to wield the Light. they'd be a good place to check maybe, especially since dead humans and awoken can actually decay past the point where a ghost could revive them, and exos (especially preserved digital copies in fresh exo bodies) might not have that same problem.

First of all, nobody could 'have' the traveller do anything. Second i dont trust that big ball at all, he tried to leave us once, and we saw in the dark future he'd do it again. And since rasputin is currently stored on a hard drive i really dont think he'd need something more complex than an exo

@@ventus8052 they are struggling even putting him in his exo body. People forget that the exo technology is hardly understood even by ghosts. This is outside of Clovis of course.

I am a new player to D2, so I do not have much of a attachment to Cayde-6 aside from cut scenes from KZbin videos but his dialogues were the best among all NPCs, Drifter and Crow has parts of his charm, with the former has the humor while the latter seemed to have inherited the talk-back nature but still...... nothing can top his dialogue. Both the script writer and the voice actors did awesome job to bring the character to life. So if you ask me, even though we may not get Cayde-6 back its better to write very good cheesy lines that matches to the voice actors.👍

I'm pretty sure that Doctor Abrams had an auto shutdown feature in the Exos upon seeing his son. Just incase something would go south with the Exos.

Cayden kept journals of his past lives. He had been rebooted 5 times, which is why he's Cayse-6. Cayde-7 could take over as the hunter vanguard, since the seat is still vacant

If we went down into the Crypt and found Cayde-6 revived, I wouldn't have been happy. If we went down their and found a Cayde-7, I probably would've been happy. Seeing a memory wiped Cayde and a memory wiped Uldren interact would've been amazing, and that would make Savathun telling Crow (and possibly Cayde in this case) about their past much more interesting

i feel the only way he could come back would be to have the traveler bring him back, it would be a first and idk if it would be an uldren/crow situation where he would be a new person or if somehow he knew what was happening idk. like you said they would have to be struggling or something to decide this but maybe they wont be and just figure out some crazy way to bring cayde back

I would love to be able to recreate Cayde but his head is a unique design so i did the best i could though made some slight changes. What i want is to know what the specific armor was that Cayde-6 wore to make it more authentic.

What do they do with the bodies of the people who became exos? There’s no indication of what they do to them or where they are located. So what happened to them?
