I was 11 years old and that was the first boxing event I ever watched. My parents got Showtime and back then they would have a monthly guide magazine and Evander was on the cover. This inspired me to stay up late and watch the fight on the 14inch spare TV tucked away in a spare bedroom. To this day one of my favorite sports memoires.

Totally agree. Comeback George gets underrated because of his age, but he was an absolute terror. To attack him head-on was suicide... even for young talented heavies 20yrs younger.

He really finished Tysons top career. He neutralised and dominate Mike. In the rematch Tyson realised he was going to be knocked out again and preferred to be disqualified

I don't want to have a grudge against Douglas. Tyson showed up out of shape and unprepared and got beat. But damn a fight between Holyfield and Tyson in 1990 or 1991 would have been epic. I'm sure it would have still been epic if Tyson and Evander fought after Holyfield had the belts and Tyson was coming off the two fights with Ruddock. Alas after being out of action for four years, then being spoon fed set up fights, Tyson was no where where he needed to be fighting any legit top ten opponent. Don King only made that fight happen because they thought Holyfield was essentially a shot fighter, which was obviously not the case.

Tysons prime fighting period was 85-88, period. After that he was NEVER the same fighter. His fight with Frank Bruno, post Kevin Rooney, he did not look the same and the trend continued thru the Douglas lost. Anyone that assumes that Holyfield beat Tyson at his best is completely off the mark. Tyson was 8 years past his best at that time, including a 4 year layoff. Holyfield was definitely able to neutralize Tyson, but Tyson was FAR from his best.

I came here to watch Holyfield highlights. While I got that, I also managed to tap into an archived memory. In the Holyfield v Bowe 2 fight in 1993, I would have been a week away from turning 3 years old. I don't remember much from that time, but I do remember my dad and uncles watching ESPN highlights constantly. When I saw that fan fly into the ring @7:00 damn, you took me back in time. I totally forgot about that. It was all over ESPN back in the day and you literally took me back Rummy. Thanks.. crazy how a little moment like that can take you back in time.

Rummy, as a longtime Holyfield fan, I agree with your top 5, I also agree with your comments regarding Holyfield v. Moore II..but I rank Holyfield v. Bowe as the #1, for the sole reason that Bowe at this time was at his peak and no doubt the best heavyweight before the fight..

Holyfield v Cooper Note: Even though he lost, his courage in his loss to Bowe 1 is something that stuck with me. He took an uppercut, and then a shellacking from Bowe, but came back at the end of the round to almost won by KO. HEART ❤️

He wasn't at his peak but he wasn't out of his prime. He was a top fighter at the time. You can't be a top fighter out of your prime. Evander was the one considered washed up in that fight. Heart problems, stamina problems, and recently getting ko'd by bowe because of it. They thought it was going to be an easy win for Mike. They were wrong. Easily evander best win.

Imo Tyson is more impressive because Holyfield was past his best at this point and absolutely dominated Tyson, he beat Mike to the punch every time, one of my favourite performances ever(granted Tyson was last his best too but still).

The Qawi fight had an Ali vs Frazier vibe to it. The first Holyfield vs Bowe fight was THE fight of their trilogy. Although Evander didn't win the first fight with Bowe, I still have a hard time accepting it, and that's based on the warrior's heart Holyfield exhibited against a much bigger man. The 10th round of that fight was one of the greatest rounds in boxing history. The 1st fight with Tyson was enthralling, and Evander showed that he was way too much of a competitor for Tyson. The boxer-puncher in Holyfield overwhelmed the baddass brawler in Tyson, and it felt right. I loved the rematch with Michael Moorer.

That was HUGE! "Merciless" Ray Mercer was a tank. Mercer almost beat Lewis, and Lennox didn't put Ray on the canvas. Evander made Ray take a knee, which is impressive.

The Bert Cooper fight comes to mind for me too. A true champion moment, a tough fighter surprising the champ and bringing more energy than Evander. The champ has to overcome not only the biggest challenges but those surprise challenges and Holyfield did that.

I thought the holyfield against Cooper was very near at his peak. It was in '91 and imo '92 was Holyfields best year. You can argue that it was prime Hoylfield against Cooper. But he definitly was past his prime against Mercer.

@Brian Charles I disagree, watch Tyson’s two wars with razor ruddock, Tyson was genuinely hurt and took shots that not many others would stand up to and watch his fights against slick boxers like Tony tucker and tyrell Biggs. Tyson definitely laid down for Lewis he didn’t even try and even in the first Holyfield fight once Tyson was knocked down he was just looking for one punch to win. But when he had his mind right in my opinion there was very few that would beat him.

Is it just me but I feel that Holyfield's fight with De Leon was another notable win? Remember De Leon was the 3 time lineal cruiserweight champion of the world and locked as a top 3 cruiserweight. Holyfield outclassed and knocked De Leon out to be undisputed. Outclassing cruiserweight greats like Qawi and De Leon made Holyfield the cruiserweight GOAT.
