I'm guessing this is the disc golf equivalent of what they call the 'yips' in professional baseball. It's where a pitcher just completely loses the ability to hit the strike zone, can't throw a strike to save their life. They completely lose control of the release of the baseball. Happens to catchers too. One guy couldn't even throw the baseball back to the pitcher and would literally walk it to the pitcher any time a baserunner was on. It's definitely something mental and I have no idea how they even get over it, if they do. I've heard some players go as far as talk to a sports psychologist to try to get over it. For her to miss short putts by that much, something had to have been going on in her mind that was screwing her up.

During this and other tournaments earlier this year, there was a lot of discussion about what was going on with her. I think the best explanation is that she developed a pretty severe case of the yips. She was a solid if not great putter in previous years, and this was a new development for her. I've seen the same thing with other players, curiously mostly FPO: Jennifer Allen, Catrina Allen, Kona Panis. She's already looking more like her previous self (albeit with some remnants of this - see the final round of the Women's DG Championship), and I'm happy to see it. It's hard not to cheer for her, she has such a sunny personality on coverage.

I've seen Eveliina play about 10 rounds now, and she's one of the best throwers in the FPO. She's got power like Paige Pierce, probably a little more, but she's more consistent. Putting is clearly the weakest part of her game, but I've never seen her putt this poorly. She's usually much better than this video suggests. If often wonder why so many pros struggle with putting. (Relative to other pros, that is. Almost all of them putt at least as well as I do.) Even if you live in the city, you can buy a cheap basket and practice C1 putting as often as you like. I putt much better than I throw, because i practice putting in my yard almost every day. Sometimes it's only 10 or 15 minutes, but doing it so often helps tremendously with muscle memory. Honestly all these comments make me sad. Eveliina is SO talented and she still manages to put herself in contention even with her putting yips. Yes, she may need to slow down and take a little more time on her putting, but remember that playing disc golf professionally can be SUPER stressful and bring a lot of anxiety. I played in USWDGC and just having 40 spectators was extremely scary. Imagine playing at her level and having HUNDREDS of people staring at you as you have to putt from the dreaded shorter distances. Whether it’s anxiety or something mental or something else, it can be so difficult to continue playing when your confidence has taken a major downfall. To me it seems like she only putts fast because those putts are stressful to her. No matter what the reason, give her grace because everyone on the pro tour has had their issues, and if we gave her grace instead of saying nasty words or quickly jumping to judging, and instead encouraged her to evaluate, practice, and breathe through each of her putts, then maybe you’d see a difference. Also, it’s really disappointing to see some comments saying “FPO will FPO” and things like that. Everyone, in every division, has putting woes and bad rounds. It doesn’t take away from their capabilities. Remember, she’s on the pro tour, and half of the people commenting are not. So don’t be so quick to judge and bully when you don’t know exactly what’s going on in her personal life and game. Anyways, rant over, Eveliina is incredible, and I know she’ll overcome these struggles through practice and encouragement💗

@carisfischer52562 жыл бұрын
@@FizzyP number one, thanks for comparing an FPO player to MA2 like that’s an amazing and similar comparison. You obviously don’t have much sympathy for someone who deals with stress and anxiety related to disc golf (and potentially outside of disc golf as well.) My main point was that it’s one thing to correct kindly and out of best interest for the player verses being sexist, harsh, and straight up rude like half of the comments on here. I wasn’t talking about MPO, and neither is this video. We’re talking about FPO. So let’s not compare a completely division to a singular person. I just want to ask how I was “making excuses?”. I was literally saying that with some more encouragement and PRACTICE she could overcome her struggles and supporting a fellow disc golf gal. I guess standing up for someone isn’t encouraged. Also, this has nothing to do with James, or Simon or any other MPO player. I actually do support a lot of disc golfers and would gladly stand up for many of them in a situation like this.
@carisfischer52562 жыл бұрын
@@FizzyP I also question what you’ve been watching and who you’ve been following, because I’ve seen plenty of MPO players have “blowup” rounds or just genuinely bad rounds. Just like EVERY other division in the history of disc golf. Yeah, the scoring separation may be different, but honestly a lot of the courses on the pro tour are designed with MPO in mind rather than FPO (understandable on some points, because MPO has more players, but still.) a 2- round can be a “blowup” round for MPO even if it seems nice from a distance. My point is, EVERY division has had their fair share of blowup rounds. It happens.

She’s very undisciplined and has a poor mental game when it comes to putting. You can clearly tell she is stiff across her entire body, gets in an unnecessary straddle stance, and is all arm. She makes long, wild, and bizarre motions as she reaches down into odd spots. Then without pausing she just snaps her arm up and out, having a 0.001 second window of releasing the disc at the proper point of hitting the basket. It makes zero sense why anyone, whether the MPO/FPO level or MA4, would do that over and over again.
@zacharycoleman54332 жыл бұрын
For those of you commenting giving form advice let me just stop you. This is not a form issue or anything close to it. She has a severe case of the yips. This has happened to baseball pitchers, golfers, basketball players etc. etc. Its a massive mental block that prevents her from making them. The yips can be caused by a single event that will trigger at certain points (for example stepping up to a 10 foot putt). Ways people have fixed this are by seeing a sports psychologist, getting hypnotized or just a matter of pushing through it until you regain your confidence. So please stop saying "its because she straddle putts" or things like that. Its not, she just has a severe case of anxiety.

Besides Ohn, Eveliina is my favorite female player to root for. Her putting drives me crazy, she has me yelling at the TV all the time. If she can just get a little better, she would dominate. Just needs a little more practice, let's go Eveliina!!!

Goodness. I had heard about this but now upon seeing it, it's even worse than I had ever imagined. I mean how do you miss high from 5 feet? Goodness, hope she gets a good teacher to help her with this.

Evalina needs to try out different putters and probably shallower ones.

They should not be making even 10% of the amount of money as MPO if this type of performance cashes.
