_The fact that the Bible endorses slavery, and the fact that “Thou shalt not rape” is not one of the Ten Commandments, is perhaps the best evidence we have that MEN wrote the Bible rather than an omniscient, supremely moral deity._ It is. Don't have sex outside of marriage. So it's false it's not prohibited. The fact you are wrong about that shows you are not qualified to say anything about God or the Bible. And about slavery, that's just your opinion, and that because Christians spearheaded the movement to end slavery in Europe and the United States. And if it weren't for God's morals saying a human being is of worth, you would have no problem with slavery, as clearly atheists have no problems with eliminating tens of millions. We can clearly see what atheism teaches about human worth in such as China and the former USSR. So atheists tout Christian values as a reason they are against slavery. And remember, when Christians oppose p000rn, the atheists get all up in arms, even though that's the same thing, both of what you are complaining about, it's rampant with human trafficking. So please, spare me the faux moral indignation.

I think it's a lot more complicated than a millisecond can even offer. First of, we must ask, what even is morality? A metaphysical concept we use to describe the rules after which the human consciousness operates? If so, where do these rules come from? Can we verify them to be true? What are the laws that are at play in forming them? Are these laws subjective to the human or objective to all? Because if they aren't objective, there can be no objective statement about the morality of slavery. Then, we must still ask, is authority over another human a question of morality? Or is it the abuse of this authority what would make it a question of morality? The word slavery implies a certain relationship of authority over another human that's heavily defined by the abuse enacted within this relationship. Might just be my opinion, but to conflate all of the possible actions of abuse within this kind of relationship with the relationship itself does no one a service. A lot of these terrible acts are also committed under different relationships, including parenthood and or democracy. Unless we come together as the whole of humanity and agree on what slavery is supposed to be like, and agree that it's supposed to be evil, we can't make an objectively valid statement about its morality, because everyone could just have a different standard of what it should be like.

The idea that God is immoral reminds me of comments I recall from a holocaust survivor. When asked if she still believed in God she stated, "No, but if there is a God, I don't like him." Upon arriving at a Nazi death camp, she was assigned the duty of tidying up after the bodies were removed from the gas chambers. As the gas was sprayed the victims, mostly women and their children, began to claw at the concrete walls in such desperation that they tore the fingernails from the ends of their fingers. She was forced to sweep up and take away their fingernails. Someone else would be responsible for washing away the blood. During these years of cleaning up many thousands of tiny fingernails she asked God, through her pitiful prayers, some obvious questions. This supposedly omnipotent, all loving God apparently couldn't be bothered to answer, let alone stop, this atrocity. Of course, this is just one example of God's capricious and immoral nature.

@SolidAir54321 I'm curious. In reading the text of the 13th the clause "except as a punishment for a crime..." immediately follows "involuntary servitude." @SolidAir54321 Reading the 13th it says "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as punishment for a crime..., shall exist within the United States..." The question becomes does the phrase 'except as punishment for a crime' modify (apply to) involuntary servitude only or does it modify (apply to) slavery also. Does that make sense? If the 'punishment for a crime' phrase only modifies involuntary servitude then the 13th would be interpreted to mean (1)no slavery is allowed in the US and (2)involuntary servitude is only allowed as punishment for a crime. But if it modifies both slavery and involuntary servitude then the interpretation would be that slavery (as well as involuntary servitude) is allowable if it is punishment for a crime. It is just a question about how to properly interpret the Amendment. I don't know but I hoped maybe you might. But evidently we are both clueless. Thanks for responding.

God provides the principles, reasons and justifications for the moral questions of substance, essence, meaning and purpose in human life and the universe. A true moral-ontology accounting for universal moral obligations to exist. The immoral god hypothesis of atheism, is just another excuse for atheism to never have to provide for any moral foundation which accords with reality. Meanwhile atheists shift their burdens onto their adversaries when it comes to every single question of substance and blame the Bible for immorality.

I know that people have gone to and walked on the moon. This was a great cultural and technological achievement. I don't worship the moon landings. I know that agriculture exists; countless billions of humans have benefited from the nutrition and community provided by the agricultural revolution. I do not worship agriculture. These are net cultural positives that I don't worship. Why would I worship any thing that is a net negative?

By assuming God is immoral should He be real is making a arbitrary judgement. By appealing to morality, inevitably one has to presuppose morality to an intelligent mind, prior to the human mind. If there is no God, there is no objective morality, therefore your assessment of His piety and diety is relative, and therefore according to your beliefs the opposite of your assessment is as equally valid as your assessment.
@andrewtuff2162 ай бұрын
"One has to presuppose morality to an intelligent mind, prior to the human mind". No not really matey. And this intelligent mind you refer to seems very inconsistent. God says "thou shalt not kill". A little while later Moses comes across a man gathering sticks on the sabbath and God says "Surely he must be put to death. Bring the gang out and stone him". Could you explain that?.

If God truly exists, and all of existence proceeds from Him, wouldn’t that make his morality the standard and it’s us who has a marred understanding of what is good or not? I’m genuinely curious as why the argument that grants Gods existence still has any validity in disagreeing with what is ultimately good and just. If you grant Gods existence you are by definition saying you are the one who is immoral and unjust. By following your will and not Gods, you claim to have a higher moral authority than the creator of morality itself, defeating your own argument

@ketari70629 күн бұрын
@@charlestownsend9280 because if you grant the Christian God’s existence, you would be granting that His character is what morality is ultimately built upon. The argument saying that God is immoral doesn’t work given morality flows based upon his own character and not the other way around. It’s self-defeating.
