Happy new year. Everard shunting frame looks good. The addition of that loop frees up the middle siding for Cripple wagons. These are wagons that would arrive with a “hot box”, thats a hot axle box detected by the axle counter on the signal box display panel. In the 80’s as still today they would be shunted into the cripple siding until the wagon staff came out to attend.

You are en excellent modeller. I have enjoyed watching your videos. I don't do the kind of detailed modelling you do. However I do consider myself a backdrop specialist. So I have a suggestion for the unfinished corner. I would suggest you do a soft curved backdrop in that long corner of yours. You can probably do a curved backdrop without too much bracing behind it. This will take the sharpness out of the corner, and reduce the amount of landscaping you have to do. May I also suggest that you paint the very white foam (polystyrene) boards above the extension the same sky blue as the backdrop? It will make the backdrop appear larger. Again, I have enjoyed your videos very much. You are a great inspiration. Thank you.

Nice work on the progress there bud. If you have seen the Hornby 2014 range, you may be delighted to know that they are doing a IC Exec HST in their range and also there is rumours that Hornby are supposed to be making new MkIII's with interior lights :). Ash.
@EverardJunction11 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ash, i've seen the new announcements and will be getting one of those HSTs. The Mk3s are the existing tooling at the moment, just with added lights.
@BritishRail6006211 жыл бұрын
EverardJunction No problem mate. That's great to hear about the MkIII's as if this is the case. I can swap over the shells on my East Midlands Trains HST. Just for the record, dare I say that 60090 "Quinag" will be joining the fleet too? Hence being in Coal Sector livery? :). If you do get that one, I would recommend having a peek at the Class 60 sound set from Legomanbiffo. I bought a chip from his agent DC Kits and I have to say this is the most realistic Class 60 sound set I have heard with my own ears :). Ash.

hi there everardjunction, i looking to build a medium dcc layout, i started the boards and wondered with DCC if everything being "reachable" for loco stalls etc is as necessary anymore now that with dcc the power and running is much better and more reliable, was thinking of making my fiddle yard concealed at the back against the wall but with an open top so you can see what your selecting. your comments are very much appreciated.

@clare641411 жыл бұрын
EverardJunction thanks, looking forward to it have purchased the stable power supply to do it with, I think signals add an other level in detail on a layout, even better if they can be made as part of the hobby. (tried to do this using a Mas sequencer, expensive and not as effective as yours)
@LuxxSlovenia11 жыл бұрын
Isnt the line where you enter and switch into the yard a bit too short? Only for 1 loco and vagon, tightly? the one next (above) the concrete part. all the traffic to the yard will go through that extention, so it means 1 vagon at a time
@EverardJunction11 жыл бұрын
The small yards I've researched so far operate on this basis. The loaded wagons are kept in the passing loop and the yard shunter only handles one or two wagons at a time.
@LuxxSlovenia11 жыл бұрын

Great video Richard once again mate I wish I had your talents for this modelling lark. The weathering you've done to all the wagons is superb and I think Bachmann are leaps a head on the manufacture of these but I think personally this is just me I think the Hornby 08 is by far a better looking model I have the Bachmann one and its useless I'e replaced the chassis twice now and its still not running properly. I like the extra track work for the scrap yard lots of shunting potential. Great video mate from a superb layout. Kev
@EverardJunction11 жыл бұрын
Thanks Kev. I agree thet the hornby 08 looks better, however at the time of purchase there wasn't a blue one on general release from hornby and they are more expensive, so i went for the bachy one instead. Shame you've had issue with your ones, i'll keep an eye on mine. They are known for bad pickups...

Greetings! First I want to say that your layout is amazing, I love your sense for detail and I found your "How to.." videos very helpfull! I want to ask you something, because I am a bit new to this hobby and I can't seem to find the answers I need on the web. So I want to know what kind of track do you use for your layout? I remeber hearing in some other videos also it was PIKO, but is it all from PIKO? Also is tere something like a "best brand" for track and are all tracks comaptible with each other? I mean can I use for example PIKO track with Tillig or Kleinbahn or Roco?
@EverardJunction11 жыл бұрын
Hi Track is split into different codes. The main ones are code 100 and 75. All the track I use is made by Peco and all of it code 100. In the UK Peco track is generally considered to be the best brand to use for any 00/HO scale track.

Did you have any trouble getting a DCC chip for the Class 08? There's very little space to put the chip.
@EverardJunction11 жыл бұрын
It was a tight squeeze. I used a bachmann 8 pin decoder and managed to fit it behind the radiator grill.
@largesatsuma11 жыл бұрын
EverardJunction You did better than me. Back in 2012 I bought a Class 08 Diesel Shunter (32-117) and there was no space to fit a Bachmann 8 pin decoder inside because of all the wires on the decoder itself. I had to go to a special manufacturer that built small decoders and even then it was a tight fit. Sounds like Bachmann has got its act together with their newer Class 08s

Just got my 1st few locos 1 class 60 ews And a twin pack 37s ews The prices seem to have gone up loads on locos etc over the last few year , just deciding on which system to go for on dcc control? Love the lenz but v pricey same with the elite may just get the hornby select for starters and crack on with the layout asap Il try to post as i go as youve gid me loads of ideas once again Just been watching all your vids again last nite love ya respray job And re-mod on airvents quality work 👍 By the way which airbrush system do you use ? And what do you think of these compressor kits airbrushes on ebay around the £40 mark anygood ? Or is it a case of you get what ya pay for ? Cheers mate Carl
@EverardJunction10 жыл бұрын
uzyadadi Good to hear you're getting back in the game Carl. Models are more expensive these days. Production costs in china rose by 20% this year so prices have gone up.As for control have you looked at ECoS? I dunno how expensive it is but i've heard good stuff about it.Airbrushing is very much a case of you get what you pay for. My airbrush is an iwata hp-cs and was £100. I still use it and after over 4 years of use its fine. Compressors are a different matter. Mine cost £40 and is still going strong after 4 years. As long as they have adjustable pressure and a moisture trap you'll be fine with a cheap compressor. For an airbrush I would try to buy the best you can afford, you'll thank yourself when it works fine for 10 years or more.I look forward to seeing your layout take shape again.Cheers
