Blimey Richard, that sounds brilliant. I love it when people have a plan and a reason for placing objects on a layout, it always looks more realistic if it has a reason for being there than just plonked on there because you just had it to hand. As for the realist water, you obviously remember the problems I had with mine the first time round, that was because the PVA I used on the two embankments 'bled' into it, even though the PVA was dry, the Realist Water seemed to attack it and convert it back to liquid again where they both mixed to give the Realist Water a cloudy appearance and no way would it clear, also the Realistic Water shrinks and can pull whatever it touches away. Its not a problem once you are aware of it and install it bearing that in mind that's all. How timely that you flattened out your baseboard because I did just the same thing on Monday evening, I looked back at the video I did on the Sunday and saw just how bad the baseboard had dipped by the station area, it didn't look too bad to the naked eye but filming the track on zoom virtually straight on really showed it up and once I saw it I knew I could live with with that - it looked like a roller coaster LOL. So a half hour later and a couple of 2" x 2" battens later it's now nice and flat! Thank you very much for mentioning Lakeside too, I'm very flattered by your comment and it's really appreciated - thank you and I really look forward to your next update showing the progression that you would have made - keep up the excellent work.........Graham

Thanks Graham. I think i'll add the realistic water first before i start on doing the surrounding scenery. Hopefully that will keep me out of trouble (fingers crossed). I did notice your warped board in your running session. I think your passengers may have wanted a refund after riding over some of that at 70mph :) Glad you got it sorted now. Cheers

EverardJunction Hehe, if they had been drinking coffee then it would have landed up in their lap!! :-) Good idea doing the Realistic Water first - that would have saved me a whole lot of grief, but all sorted now..............Graham

Your repainted 56047 looks spectacular as this remains my favourite loco livery. You are so right about maintaining a level track as you see far too often on layouts that the trains look more like a roller coaster than a scale model. I can't wait to see your progress with the river. Keep up the good work.
@EverardJunction10 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I can't stand poor running of the trains. It really annoys me at exhibitions when you see jerky running and derailments. If they spent all that time on a high quality exhibition layout at least get it to work properly!

Beautiful work as always. I love some of the angles you get. In some ways they don't even look like models up close. My mum and I are planning to go to a local model railway club to see if anyone there would be willing to help construct my model railway. I finally came up with a really (REALLY) rough plan of what I wanted it to look like, but now my dad is in no condition to do any work like this.

Very good update Richard, gone back to your how to videos when i did my hill side this week, will be very interested to see you add the extra foliage, and the effect it has on the back scene, you can't go wrong with a water feature on your layout, it always bring that touch of realism, just watch the realistic water, its shrinks as it drys and can pull your river banks away and damage the work you have done, but as with everything you do Im sure it will look good. Andy

Great video Richard like the progress you've made and the future changes sound great. The idea of a river seems better than a dual carriage way if you want ideas for a river check out my series of videos "bridging the gap"covers a viaduct and river seen using realistic water and realist water effects complete with a water mill. The last videos in the series is called "50 shades of green"covering static grass to wild life to finish the scene. Like the running session those trains look the biz. Cheers Kev

The layout's looking good and reminds me of the Western Region through Berkshire in the 1980s. How about just one central, brick-built pier for the river bridge? I think that would be sufficient for the prototypical length.

I really like the river idea, but shouldn't the far side of the bridge (where there is currently unpainted newspaper) be like the front of the bridge? I think it'd add even more depth to that part of the scene, otherwise the river isn't really flowing from anywhere.
@xanderveitch298710 жыл бұрын
The knights of ni not only demand of you to add more shrubberies but also to trim your current ones - look at the tunnel clip again and u will see a certain Bush likes to damage ur trains. Yet another great vid!

Hi Terry. I got the goo gone from dcc supplies. It would suggest you buy at least 2 bottles though to justify the postage! The mud track was done using my old friend polyfilla. When its still wet run a car you don't care about over it a few times to create the tyre tracks.

Cheers Richard, another nice update! It's quite amazing looking down the length of your two double straights from your station area to the tunnels, they always looked perfectly straight from a distance but when you put the camera down looking low down it's surprising how wavy the actual rails are, just like the real thing! Do you use anything specific when laying long lengths of straight track or curves? Andy
