The space was built for a never installed second track, and is now used as a storage area for permanent way and signalling equipment, and a small cabin for a mess room.

I was thinking the remains of pointwork with abandoned/ruined goods sheds or maintenance buildings. Track lifted but permanent way in place but overgrown! On the canal, why not have your narrowboat cruising past with a bit of a wake and don't forget the litter in the water!

Again the changes are so so much better. That industrial area is a massive improvement from the first creation. It works out just right. I've covered a few videos on weathering buildings, roof tops most recently and brickwork in breif somewhere.. That was done by applying satin varnish over the brickwork and using washes mixed with weathering powders and enamel thinners and pin washed. My brewery building is a good example of what can be done. For that branch line I'd be inclined to keep it single line but add some form of wider bridge to make it look like it was broad gauge once. That's very common along GWR mainline. Hope your well. Lockdown is putting to use some valuable layout time for sure.

Remains of an old point off the branch leading to a colliery closed in the 1950s where there is now that modern industrial unit. Would be my suggestion for under the bridge.

Your vehicle scrap yard is impressive and something rarely seen on many model railroads. Please consider adding a scrap container somewhere in the yard where small pieces of broken vehicle parts and useless junk and glass can be collected to keep the yard somewhat cleaner and safer. I always enjoy watching and learning from your videos from almost half way around the world in California, USA. I look forward to your next presentation.

I love the idea of the disused track, it enables so many scenic interests such as old signals and signage (perhaps scars of the long since rationalisation of the route) it probably won't require much work either, add a disused and rusty GWR style signal gantry/bracket(with or without signals) and the look is almost complete. for the disused track I'd love to just see the old track sat in position albeit overgrown and cut from the branch itself, which was the modus operandi of BR on several occasions when cutting off unwanted sections of track - hopefully adding to the era atmosphere. P.s I miss the old layout but this new one leaves me waiting for every new update!

Not sure if this has been suggested for the branchline, but my vote would go on the line needing to be rebuilt, so the line currently runs on the rebuilt part of the branch and the left would be the remnants of the old line. A bit like where they built the new tunnels on the Woodhead route. Might be too complicated, but could add interest with an older brick construction mixed with a newer metal structure? Just a thought. Whatever you do, it will look great!

So much work that you've done; really impressed. Loving the cars 2 high in the scrap yard, back in the 80's it wasn't uncommon to see them 3 high and it was just your luck if you needed a part from the bottom car. Can't wait to see what else you do with the scrappy! Stay safe mate.😊👍

Suggestion for the scrap yard or commercial garage the addition of some grounded van bodies etc for storage of reclaimed components. Tyres would often be stacked against the fence and the occasional one end up in the canal. Pouring some resin in the dips in the road also gives puddles, which I think are a very under modelled British staple!

Some older cars 50's 60's era as well, our local scrappys always had some relics tucked in the back corner with the newer, more profitable stuff at the front. A couple round here also had an old van as kennels for the guard dog

Wow. Looks amazing, every scrap yard I've been to, the ground is normally a mixture of mud and oil, guys in grubby boiler suits and manky fork lift. Also maybe take a blow torch to a couple of cars to recreate burnt out ones. It's not me doing the work but maybe a small garage too, Were you can see flashes of light as if someone is welding inside. A timber merchants would no.doubt be easier, you see them all the time by the railways. As for the branch an old track bed or workers prefabs seems the best idea to me. However it's not me doing the work, your more than capable of doing your own thing. So whichever route you go, Im sure it'll be great but many thanks for sharing.

That's looking really good. You mentioned some sort of lumber/builders' yard. Firms who do farm supply always have loads of interesting stuff like gates, posts, lumber, rolls of hoses, pipes, wire, feeding troughs etc. They don't have huge amounts of any one thing but have lots of smaller stacks of interesting things with potential for lots of detail along with an irregular display with clear-ish lines for a trailer or truck to get down. Great stuff as usual. The branch line would have been a former double track route into a large alternative station within the town (separate to the remaining current mainline station that you are modelling). Since the Beeching cuts, only a single track chord that runs up to Everard Junction remains of the former route where it joins the current mainline. The old station and route into the town were torn down and pulled up in the late 60s. Maybe some indication of this former route in the small foreground space at the very front of the layout would satisfy most viewers.

Everything is looking fab love the scrap yard & crash damaged cars, I had a blue marina but it didn't die like that one & instantly noticed the Man & Granada as you, for the empty area I would suggest a skip hire with one skip truck loading or unloading rather than just being parked up empty, under the rail bridge the remains of a lifted set of points & associated track work left overs & overgrown would look good.

Really loving the work so far! Disused line and some tatty old scraps by the bridge will look very authentic. Perhaps a small gas bottle yard/warehouse for the small area? Maybe Calor Gas etc. There's one near my place of work that strikes me as quite a lot of stuff crammed into a small fenced-off space. Might make for some open-space detail & maybe some colours. Anyways I'm enjoying watching your progress, no doubts my favourite layout on the 'ol Tube. Keep up the good work!

Richard, love you're new update, I like the industrial buildings as the trains enter the town, very effective. With the second hand car dealership you need some signs or car prices on the inside of windows, to let you know it's a car dealership. For me personally I like the first idea of just a set of tracks going into the other tunnel very rusty and overgrown with stoppers on either end of the piece of track, with rail detritus, i think it would give it character. Of all the people I'm subscribed to you and Dave at Dean Park are the "bomb." Take care mate and look forward to the next update, happy modelling! 👍

You could add a escort van to your commercial Van or a used mini van. As my Dad had both in the 80's. Another thought is a cut and shut car in the lot. Not sure if it is feasible, just and idea. Amazing what you done, I still got my intercity 125, but the engine stopped working in the late 90s. Thinking of setting it up in the loft.

Wow. Big changes, in relation to the branch line, all options sound good and frankly you should do what you want, you won’t please everyone with what you choose so please the most important person, yourself. The industrial area sounds full of potential. Considering the options, you could do a gardeners or landscaping supply centre, that way you can have timber, soil, sand, slabs and all sorts of other related materials including skips and pots. Either way, the run down and industrial feel I love already and the scrap yard is brilliant. A great and enjoyable video as usual. All the best, Clint

Looking even more fab now, love the detail of the automotive industrial area - we all have good and bad memories of places like that for one reason or another' Single track for the branch' Canal looks great with less' it has that 'running through industrial look. Scratches look great, I used to work next to a lorry depot in the 80's - yours looks virtually the same, bit more oil wouldn't go amiss - our 'works rodent prevention specialist' once fell into an exposed drum, oil everywhere but all sorted with a trip to the vet'.

Branch line. I would go with a usable or disused siding coming from under the bridge and a buffer stop rusted or newish depending on wether it was to be a usable or disused siding. Reason I suggest siding is that the branch line really reminds me of a colliery line I recall on snaking steep incline coming out of the reception sidings towards the main line. Your 56 with long rake of HEAs is etc would look superb or any long freight on the climbing the branch line would look stunning. Going with the colliery theme an industrial shutter could be parked on the of the siding to give interest. The empty area by the ranch line could also have a colliery related theme. Great work. The sweeping curve with branch line incline looks stunning. I think I’d go with the option of making the bridge obviously single track. A point immediately before the bridge may seem strange. The railway company could have saved a lot of money building the bridge by putting the point immediately after it instead. But it would still look great whichever one you go for.

WOW!!!, Your Mk.1. FORD GRANADA COUPE, is looking SUPERB, sure has come a long way from the last time I saw her, My channels Mk.3 Cortina restoration is still going on, but the car is stuck at the paint shop which has been closed weeks and only just opened, so I hope mine looks as good as yours when she is done, I loved the new additions to your layout, and nice to see some more Mk.3 Cortina;s being the UK's best selling car even by the late 1980's there were a lot on the road, and the average scrap yard had 10 to 20 in every week, so as you love detail as much as me, maybe adding another couple to your scrap yard would be an idea?, love the Mk.1 transits at the side of the commercial garage, and looking forward to seeing more of your lovely work.

I'd add the redundant track/point going under the bridge on the Branch Line - think that will add more of a focal point to the area. Great rebuild of the area to the front of the Branch/ main lines. Cheers Euan

Amazing work as always Richard. For the bridge I'd go with it's an abandoned part of the line. Now it's just used for a bit of storage, maybe some track, big ballast bags, even a couple of old signals. The I site. Maybe a builders yard of some sort with a plant hire business in there.

Great attention to detail and love the back stories. Having worked in the motor trade in my early twenties during the very early 90s, that small independent industrial estate garage feels very familiar to me. Granadas, Cortinas, Escorts, Marinas, Minis, Metros and even a Bedford HA van like you have were the bread and butter work of our customers vehicles. As you say most were patched up year on year including the newer B and C reg Escort IIIs which had big rust problems! The world of canbus / computer controlled everything in cars was not yet upon us, and nor was full bidy galvanising. I probably welded a patch on a cill at least once a week! The house I grew up in had the 3' concrete post and wire fence and my dad put up 6' fence panels between us and annoying neighbours. So that scene also feels very real to me. Really love the back stories you make to give reason to the scene. Great work!

Excellent layout. I like the improvements. . Some ideas... 1. Branch line - Keep the idea of the redundant double track bridge (...in accordance with *McMetro* comments below). There are countless examples of such structures throughout Britain, especially in the wake of the Beeching cuts. But don't overdo it. Maybe show some existance of an earlier track, since removed. Some typical planting of invasive species - Budlea, stingers etc... 2. Canal. What about a half sunk industrial barge? This area of town, let us face it, is a 'rundown part of town'. So a derelict barge might just be what one would see on an infrequently used section of grotty canal. 3. Vehicle Scrapyard - These cars are mostly die-cast white metal models. I'd be more inclined to cut into the front area of the car and bend in/deform the engine bays, with 'popped' bonnets showing some crushed engine details. Windscreens on front/rear-end collisions nearly always shatter in real life. Otherwise, I especially like the story of old cars that show signs of previous attempts to get them through that last MoT. 4. End of industrial estate - Several ideas spring to mind. a) A small garden centre. b) A small household reclamation yard (old doors, windows, toilet bowls, baths, sinks, chimnies, racks rag-slates etc... c) Tyre and exhaust centre (in keeping with the other businesses on the estate). . Regarding rolling stock. I still don't understand why railway modelers don't address the glaringly obvious omission of inter-carriage (rubber concertina) gangways between passenger coaches. And if anyone says - '' It would interfere with the smooth movement of brakes of coaches on curves'', I say bollox ! Very light latex would solve this attention to detail quite easily.

Really like the “neighbours from hell” garden. And the detailing around the signal controlling the branch line approach up to the main line is great too. Re: branch line abandoned track, of the three ways forward you described, I would say keep the double bridge, portray that the single track would have split to two once upon a time but now one line has been abandoned. This layout is genuinely stunning, so much detail considering it is in the early stages. Perhaps with the bridge you could add a track under the bridge which finishes as a set of buffers, as if it is a siding which joins the line after it passes under.

When the planners designed the ring road in Basingstoke they actually built the bridges that went over the road to take a dual carrage way but when the roads were built some parts were left as single carriage ways and the area under the unoccupied span was simply grassed over. With the small industrial area it would be suitable for a small builders yars ,a couple of racks for timber, a few pallets of bricks, pavers etc.The outside stock areas do not need to be huge as most of the bulk stack would be ordered in and delivered direct. I also love your canal scene. for scale purposes the hose that was next to the narrow boat would be nearer a pump out hose than a water hose. a water point and the pumpout station are often situated next to each other and so for accuracy it works both ways. Cheers very recently discovered you channel and love it.

At the double track bridge, I think you should lay down some ties (sleepers) which gives the area the allusion that there was once a switch (turnout) and rails as a second branch line. Maybe add a single track portal and weather the area. Much more interesting then just moving the terrain up and making it a single track bridge. Love your work !!

Richard, you are a magician! The model is really coming to life now. Love the scrapyard theme - really good concept. Great idea to model crash damage and well-executed, too. Good to see the canal-side houses being reworked and improved - neighbours from hell...! 🤣 And maybe a big angry-looking Doberman chained up in their back yard as well..? Glad that you are now calling cable troughing by its correct name as cable trunking is something entirely different. On the subject of things to do with S&T - the signal on the branch needs to be adjusted to get the red aspect to point towards the drivers eye level on the branch rather than the sky, but I know you said you are still working on this area. Don’t forget the AWS ramp for it, which should be positioned circa 183 yards (+/- five yards) from the signal, whatever that is in ‘OO’. And there should be a location case (“relay box”) adjacent to it as well for the controlling relays and power supplies. As for the single line going under the overbridge; I think the idea of old ballast leading off with an imprint in the ballast further on of where sleepers have been removed is good one. You would need to extend the sleepers at the site of the points and maybe have some rail chairs on there, with perhaps the old switches lifted and laid in the cess. The result would show what we would call “plain-lining”, where a redundant full or half set of switches has been removed and replaced with a section of plain-line rail. Thats excellent. You could have a concrete slab that could be the foundation of where the car auction once stood. I'm a Capri man myself so nice to see a few in the scene there. Regarding the branch line bridge you could always say there was an engineering siding beyond there or a rail connected depot or some kind of loop that extended under the bridge, or something beside the track that warranted the double track bridge there.
